Wow Suzanne.. you are really a trooper, continuing to post and keep all of us informed, even with the storm rocking and rolling the Explorer about! Have there been a lot of people in the dining room or has it been rather empty due to seasickness?

I can't wait to see all of your pictures. Have a safe trip home and try to enjoy the remainder of your cruise!

It's 530pm and we have SUN!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D Captain Erik found us SUN! Seas are still rough with heavy swells but the sky is brighter with patches of blue ahead and SUN!!!!!!!!!! We went thru heavy rain and dark skies most of the day so this is a huge relief! We just came back from pool deck and lots of people in hot tubs and pool bar is open so big change from a couple of hours ago. We are still getting rocked pretty bad but at least the sky is brighter ahead! :D

I haven't been near the dining rooms as we are on deck 10 so stay on 10 and 11 as I refuse to take elevators back up in bad weather. Just the sound they make in rough seas is enough to keep me away so as I do not want to walk up all those stairs to get back to 10 we just stayed up here today. Between 10 and 11 we have everything we need! :D

Hey, Suzanne! Well, our TV finally stopped shaking really bad, but wow, I can not believe we are following a storm that we have already gone thru! So, where have you been? Haven't seen you since the Meet n MIngle. Fred and I are having the time of our lives, no matter what the weather, hope you are too!

Shoo

Hey Shoo! Glad your TV stopped shaking! :D I know, I'm sick of this storm too! Dh and I met up with Carol and Beth for the suite cocktail party at 530 yesterday and DH and I seen Tom and his family as we were all playing golf yesterday morning. I'm usually in Aquarium Bar around 10:30 as DH goes to casino and I listen to the music and chat with people:) Stop by!

Good idea to stay put up there! I wonder how scared the pax down on lower decks feel seeing only grey water through their OV windows? OMG.

It is not really a downgrade unless you have a downgrade in velocity as well.

The big difference between an extra tropical and a tropical storm is that the highest winds are close to the center in a tropical storm and in an extra tropical storm they are not just in the center. Once the center is gone a tropical formation has lost its tropical character and it is now fed by the clashing of cold and warm fronts.

Not to scare you but with Noel becoming extra tropical you have just made step towards the strongest winds thus high seas.

:(

Oh well isn't THAT special! A CYCLONE like storm! Ok now, that's just lovely! Hmmmmmm...........I'm missing that hurricane word now! Well there's wind I can tell you that much! Noel had been difficult to predict what it was going to do since last week so I'm not surprised it's doing something extra special at this point! I bet Shoo's tv is shaking again right now again!

Oooh! I wouldn't like to see fish going by my cabin window! Well if it gets really spooky I'll head toward middle of ship on 10 or in CL on 9 as that is in middle. I think the most important thing would be to try to stay away from an area where there is a lot of glass or windows as breakage usually causes the most harm in a storm. It's getting intense again at 6pm so our hour of sun has ended but it was nice while it lasted!:D BBL:)

Thanks for posting this information. DH was just asking about this and I didn't know what all the options are. BTW, welcome back, :)

I'm glad I could help! :)

Thank you so much for all of your info on the computer connections. I guess my next thing is to figure out if I have a modem in my laptop and then I'll determine whether or not the cybercabin would be an option. Since we are so fortunate to have an OS this trip, it would be nice to have it in the cabin. Is cybercabin cheaper than using their computers in the internet cafe?

I see Mary already posted the anser to the cost question. :)

Thanks for the info. The $125 seems reasonable enough, so now I'll have to find out if our laptop has the necessary modem in it. It's a bit on the older side, so that might work to our advantage. I understand the newer ones don't necessarily have whatever modem type is needed.

Thanks again!

Almost all the newer laptops no longer have modems. But you can buy stand alone modems that plug into your USB port, I think. Worth checking out for the price difference in cybercabin and wifi, and if you plan to cruise a lot and need your connection.

I do have bad news though -- not all the RCCL ships offer cybercabin. I know the Grandeur does not, along with some others.

Sounds like Captain Erik is doing a great job, and the EX is holding up wonderfully in the awful weather! I know you will be glad to get home and see Faith and Blue again, though! :)

7pm update

The Captain announced the following about 15 minutes ago. We did turn a bit to avoid the weather and we are now at our farthest from Noel. However to avoid this storm completely would put us at sea a couple of days so we are once again traveling on Noel's GOOD SIDE in order to keep our scheduled arrival in Bayonne on Sunday. SO in my opinion this means we are in for a nasty night basically. It is formal night and the Captain suggested that ladies do NOT wear high heels and for us all to use the handrails on stairs and in hallways and to be very careful going outside at all due to gusts of wind. We are now experiencing very rough seas and motion so I don't think formal night is on anyones priority list right now! We certainly were not going to begin with and headed for a relaxing ( HA! ) meal in the Windjammer this evening. Well normally it would be relaxing.....tonight it's just going to be the goal of walking from point A to point B as we are now getting hammered with very strong winds that is causing the entire ship to shake violently and pitch. The Captain will give us another update of weather tomorrow morning he said but they are watching Noel very closely but as of now her tract is stable.

well this will be one trip to remember, thats for sure :) You should have less seas tomorrow if the capt goes closer to the coast. The worst winds and seas will be out further in the ocean. My guess is that is what he is going to do.

Hopefully there will be less motion for you guys tomorrow.

I cannot imagine what you all are going through on the Explorer right now. It must be exciting and a little scary. Its good to know you are in good hands with Capt Erik. Thank you for posting live.

HeyLetsParty - Hello to you too. I must admit, its pretty rare to see a poster from Maine. I know lots of people who cruise and they are computer literate - where are they all? Oh, they must have a life and not hang around the boards like I do. lol.

Richbum - We're cruising on Feb 24th. We had reservations for night before at Best Western, but heard a few unfavorable things about it so cancelled it. Now we have reservations for the Marriott. It's gonna be different to drive and not fly to get to our cruise! DH works at Jax Lab and I work at Post office.

Sea-Cruise - Thanks for the info for military discount. Next cruise I'll be on top of it. This time around, we definitely got best deal by booking so early.

You're welcome!

btw.....I also worked at the P.O. many years ago (as an RC) before quitting to start a business. :D
