Hmm, the shoes definetly not appropriate for the dress....Now, why didn't he wear a bra?...

Oddest I dress I have seen was on the Conquest in February--what a mix it was. Farmer Brown drove his tractor to Galveston and got onboard the ship. He had two modes of dress--jeans, t-shirt with a printed saying on it (I don't remember it), and suspenders; and Overalls with the same t-shirt. I am sure he had the keys to the tractor on him somewhere....There also was a group of five (four women and one man) black folk from the deep south. The guy was dressed like a guy t-shirts and jeans at night and shorts during the day. The women, well, they must have idolized Aunt Jemima because they all wore the same kind of hat she wears on the pancake package. They also wore long sleeved blouses, long ankle length skirts, panty-hose, and granny high heels no matter where they were or how hot it was outside. The "formal" attire didn't change much, just something a little fancier, but still long sleeved/ankle length/granny shoes...

Last year we did a westbound transatlantic on the Queen Mary 2 and the strangest thing we saw was a couple who were Titanic re-enactors. All their clothes were custom-made copies of clothes from the movie. At first it was just kind of "different" but as we neared the area where the Titanic went down quite a few people were visibly uncomfortable. I thought it was just plain weird.

KCPlayer21,

I wonder about people who wonder about people. :D He doesn't need permission to take pictures of people in public areas of a ship.

So you wouldn't mind a stranger, on the ship, taking pictures of your kids or taking pictures of your wife while she was sunbathing in her swimsuit by the pool? What if you saw this person taking pictures of your family every day? You wouldn't have a problem with that, since you all are in the public areas of the ship?

but I thought flip flops were not allowed in the dining room !!

MY DD only wore flip flops to the dinning room. She had a pair for each out fit and sparkly black ones for formal night. They pack lighter than shoes and this was on Celebrity.

Hi KCPlayer21,

I do walk around with a camera around my neck, usually with a 70-300mm lens or the 18-200mm vibration reduction lens. I normally zoom in on my wife or on our last cruise the couple who went with us. I have sometimes gotten folks in the background, making adjustments to their clothing.

I realize that my prior comment, although made in jest, might seem "creepy" to some. I did mean it in jest, that is why the big grins were attached. And as PaulMedik pointed out, permission is not needed in public places. I am not one to go pick out a spot on deck and zoom in all day on unsuspecting people. I much rather take photos of my family and friends. "Candid photos" while funny, can get one in trouble as well!

Thanks for your viewpoint. I hope I have addressed your concerns.

Peace,

Lee

Its all good, triplee. I didn't realize you were joking. I had a very real incident a couple of years ago where I took my kids to the park and a guy was there taking pictures of my then 6 year old daughter as well as other kids. I confronted him and when I realized he was there by himself, I asked for his film from his camera. When he refused I ended up snatching his camera from him and breaking it, and almost beat his a$$ but he got away from me. A lot of the other parents there were happy I did something, because some of them didn't even realize he was taking pictures.

I just always get leery when I see folks snapping away taking pictures of people they don't know......

Unfortunately it's the ones you DON'T see that you need to worry about. And unfortunately as was mentioned earlier it isn't a crime to take pictures of anyone in public but yes, I would beat someone down that I caught taking pics of my family from afar with no reason.

KCPlayer21,

You are so right about a stranger taking pics. of kids at the park. I would have reacted the same way. Too many incidents of innocent children harmed/killed by wackos!

I am the unofficial photographer at the rescue station where I work. I love taking photos of the kids when they are with Santa at the station Xmas party. I always take pictures of the kids when we hold EMS day. Kids get to climb aboard our ambulances, and the med evac. choppers. Sometimes the parents have to pry their kids out of the choppers because the kids become so fascinated with all the cool gear and hold up the line! LOL

My candid shots are at our station's monthly get together meetings and I admit I have taken photos of a chicken leg about to be devoured! We save those shots for the end of the year party (xmas) and show them on the screen for all 300 guests to see!

I hijacked this thread! I apologize!

When we sailed the Celebrity Century a few years ago, we were having dinner on formal night (people were very formal on this ship) and a table next to the Captain's table all came in wearing their Celebrity robes and did the worm down the stairs into the dining room, across the dining room floor to their table. It was about 4 of them and all the geezers in the dining room were shocked! Not sure what the Captain thought...

OMG! This is hilarious! This has got to be one of the best threads I've ever read on CruiseCritic! I've never laughed so hard in my life!

We were on the Pride, and there was this couple in their 70's maybe 80's, and they wore square dancing outfits the whole cruise, the same outfits, never changing. Everywhere we went, there they were ready to square dance. We nicknamed them the "Squares." We always come up with nicknames for off the wall people we see on cruises.

We had as a tablemate on a 7 day cruise that wore the exact same looking grey t shirt to dinner every night, even on the formal night. Very nice couple though,we really enjoyed meeting them.

I know a guy.......all he owes are blue shirts......all the same.......they are all he wears.

...........and he is wealthy enough to own two Porches.......identical Porches......in case one is in the shop.......:D

On the Triumph, I saw a very tall gentleman, probably in his late 60's, wearing a pale yellow suit that he finished off with a rope for a belt. Now, the part that stands out the most was that the suit was the EXACT same color as his hair! Come on...you know he had that thing especially made, or he had his hair dyed to match. It was like Frenchy in Grease during the dance scene.

......So what have you seen that you were a little shocked by?

There is nothing in clothing (or lack of clothing) that will shock me. The thing that does is some of the elaborate tattoos some folks get in some of the weirdest (and most sensitive) places.

A lady at our table was wearing a bustier on formal night and she was really busty and the bustier was one of those puch up kind. Her tatas were so pushed up, the dark circle around her nibblies was showing. It was rather distracting.

Were you on my cruise honey? I think that was me. Honey I was sexxy, How ur Doin?

I've seen kids (young adults, I mean) wearing suit jacket, shirt ties and pajama bottoms on my last cruise...not a real shocker. Just college kids being brain dead.

The weirdest thing was on my NCL cruise there was a large group of Red Hats. It was cute when we boarded to see all these senior women in their red and purple get-ups but this was a 15 day cruise. By day 5 or 6 when I realized that red & purple were the ONLY colors of clothing they paked for the cruise, it started to get old...then the one morning when 3 of them came to the dining room for breakfast in red & purple pajamas, I made the decision that I will have my DD's shoot me before I get senile enough to join a group like this.

Oh, and I do believe they slept with the freaking red hats ON. I never saw one of this group without one.
