...The Judges should include ME. ...It might also get me a free trip to your Offices..

Brian

Gee, Brian...I thought you were going to go with "Lend me use of one of the ships so I can go and try out some of the proposed itineraries...You know, just to see if they really work out okay..."

DAY 1 - Manila, Philippines

DAY 2 - At sea: Cruise Leyte Gulf

DAY 3 - Mindanao, Philippines (may be deleted if politically unsafe)

DAY 4 - At Sea

DAY 5 - Palau, Caroline Islands (1/2 day ashore, then 1/2 day at sea)

DAY 6 - Truk, Caroline Islands (1/2 day at sea, then 1/2 day ashore)

DAY 7 - Guam, Mariana Islands

DAY 8 - Saipan & Tinian, Mariana Islands (1/2 day each as they're virtually next door to each other)

DAY 9 - Iwo Jima

DAY 10 - At sea

DAY 11 - Nagasaki

DAY 12 - Hiroshima

DAY 13 - Osaka (okay, it's not WWII, but it's beautiful and full of history and culture.)

DAY 14 - Tokyo

If Mindanao is skipped, then perhaps it's possible to include Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands, though that's a pretty far hike. Ponape in the Carolines would be a closer alternative. Or spend a full day each at Palau and Truk. I've heard that the Carolines are great for divers, so a "sports day" anchored just about anywhere near dive facilities (and a beach?) could be a boon.

Like most of the other posters, I'm guessing about ability of the ships to cover the proposed distances in the required time, but this appears to work. If not, shanghai more mice for the treadmills and more galley slaves for the oars. Faster, faster! The Captain wants to go water-skiing after lunch!

Oh geez, I'd love this cruise:

  • Rome
  • Amalfi Coast
  • La Goulette (Tunisia)
  • Aghios Nickolas (Crete)
  • at sea
  • Alexandria
  • Cairo (Port Said)
  • Limossol
  • Santorini
  • Mykonos / Delos
  • Athens
  • Athens

Would like to mix up the favorites with something new. I'm seeing some other really interesting entries!

Brian:

Glad you've re-engaged.

As to your suggestions:

#1 I agree we shiould limit each poster to 2 entries

#2 I disagree to limit entries to only 14 day sailings. Quite frankly, the longer itineraries that we really need, especialy in Asia ,Africa and South America because the distances are so far, are the one's that are most difficult to develop, so I'd like to hear everyones ideas.

#3 I think that in order to encourage creativity and new ideas, we should keep the 50% new port requirement.

#4 As to you being a judge, I prefer you as a contestant!! You have a better chance of winning a FREE cruise than you do a FREE visit to our offices. Besides, our ships are much more impressive than our offices. Polo and Toscana serve much better food than the cold tuna fish sandwich we would serve you for lunch at the office.

One observation that I'd like to make after just a half day of entires being posted- remember that our ships travel at max, 18 knots. Most if not all of the entries so far are under estimating the distances between ports.

Good Luck everyone

FDR

I'd like to see a cruise that goes to some of the hard to get to islands in the South Pacific. I'm open to additional islands. I'd also like to see more overnight stays.

Valparaiso, Chile

Easter Island

Pticairn Island

Pago Pago

Moorea

Bora Bora

Suva

Port Vila

Caines, Australia

Sydney overnight

Thanks!

I would somehow like to include Portugal, Spain, Gilbralter, Morroco, but haven't figured it out yet. Great wines, scenery and history.

But here is a second entry:

  • Rome
  • Rome
  • Amalfi Coast
  • Monte Carlo
  • Marseille
  • Barcelona
  • Mahon
  • Seville

Here is my second submission

Miami

Nassau/Freeport-need one non US stop

Jacksonville

Savannah

Charleston

Norfolk

Baltimore

Philadelphia

New York

New Haven

Newport

Boston

Select enough overnights for 14 days. Tie this into Canadian itineraries or the northern transatlantic through Canada-Greenland-Iceland.

Although the ships travel at max, 18 knots, I would prefer more time at ports. The port intensive itineraries and less days at sea are what we are looking for. That is the beauty of a great cruise, visit many ports, have time to explore, yet return to the comfort and elegance of ship without having to haul our luggage around. This is the very best in our opinion.

To me, the Missing Link in Oceania's itineraries is Eastern Africa and the Indian Ocean. My proposal addresses that gap and gives cruisers the opportunity to visit seven countries with diverse cultures, enjoy natural wonders such as Niagara Falls and Mr Kilimanjaro, experience African Safaris and relax on gorgeous islands. The diffficult element for me is estimating the number of sea days required. I've chosen Dubai as the start/end port as it is easily accessible from North America and Europe. Dubai also enables a fascinating pre- or post-cruise few days, which isn't currently available with Oceania.

Embark Dubai

Days 1-3 3 sea days

Day 4 -5 Mombasa (Kenya) - overnight to Mt Kilimanjaro and Masai

Mara safari

Day 6 Dar Es Salaam or Zanzibar (Tanzania)

Days 7-8 Durban (South Africa) - overnight to Victoria Falls and

Zambezi River

Day 9 Port Louis (Mauritius)

Day 10 Mahe (Seychelles)

Day 11-12 2 Sea Days

Day 13 Muscat (Oman)

Day 14 Disembark Dubai (UAE)

I think this meets the competition criteria.

Here is MY first choice which I think would show a real variation in Cultures and styles of location in The Med.

Lisbon

Madeira

Gibraltar

Barcelona

Tangiers

Palma, Mallorca

St Tropez

Antibes

San Remo

Livorno

Civitavecchia

Frank......I think this could be covered in thetime frame of 14 days (my choice) and would offer plenty of variance to that currently on the market.

By the way I happen to like Tuna Sandwiches !

Okay, with this one:

1) I know you can get flights from the US to Dublin and Amsterdam.

2) Though Oceania may cruise to a lot of these places (Dublin, Belfast, Brest, St. Malo, Honfleur, Zeebrugge, Amsterdam), I don't think you've gone in this combination.

3) The distances port to port are pretty short...I am fairly certain you can get from one to the next at 18 knots or less...It was hard to even find room for the "At Sea" days...You could probably leave very long hours in each port...and if gluttons for exhaustive touring, could even throw in port days in Jersey and Dover or Calais to replace the at sea days...but some of us need to rest between tours...

4) Personal note: It's for my wife...she loves Ireland...and 27 years ago, I was on "Wheel of Fortune" for three days...and won a lot of stuff...but, the one bonus round question I missed, the prize was a trip to Amsterdam...Since then, we've been all over the area, but, somehow or another, I have still never gotten her to Amsterdam...This one ends there...The "Bonus Round" prize!!

1 Dublin

2 Belfast

3 Glasgow

4 Londonderry

5 Galway

6 Cork

7 At Sea

8 Brest

9 Plymouth

10 Guernsey

11 St. Malo

12 Honfleur

13 At Sea

14 Zeebrugge

15 Amsterdam

Ok, My second entry- part of a transatlantic, but as Reykjavik is so close and easy to get to from NY, it allows the remote ports in only 14 days:

Day 1. Reykjavik, Iceland

2. Djupivoqur, Iceland

3. Seydisfjordur, Iceland

4. Husavik, Iceland

5. Akureyri, Iceland

6. Isafjord, Iceland

7. at sea

8. at sea

9. Nanortalik, Greenland

10. Qaqortoy, Greenland

11. at sea

12. at sea

13. Reykjavik, Iceland

14. disembark in Reykjavik, Iceland

The hardest thing about planning this itinerary, was spelling the names of these places.

My dear friend Paulchilli

Of course I am always right........it just takes people a while to realise that.

I actually watch more USA Comedy than anything else and find the New York sarcastic, questioning humour (yes that is the correct way to spell it) the best in the world. Most UK Comedy is very old fashioned and stereotyped.

Thanks for the compliment and hopefully one day we will meet.

I like the idea of an "All France" cruise. I don't think I've ever seen a cruise line do this. Easy to fly in and out of.

Nice

Cannes

Marseilles (overnight to give more time for Provence)

St. Tropez

at sea

Bordeaux (overnight)

St. Malo

at sea

Brittany

Honfleur

Rouen (overnight for Paris)

Congratulations, FDR, on a brilliant marketing idea!! Who ever heard of asking passengers where they want to go?

And if I can interject between Paulchili, Brian UK and Bruin Steve, here's my suggestion about O's first appearance on the West Coast. Not many cruise lines visit the West Coast of Vancouver Island, which is spectacular and very similar to Norway. (And thank you for putting Norway back in for 2010 - we're already booked!!)

Anyway, here goes:

*Vancouver

*Ketchikan

*Juneau

*Glacier Bay - if permit can be acquired

*Seward

*Kodiak Island

*Skagway

*Queen Charlotte and Islands

*The West Coast of Vancouver Island

*Tofino, Ucluelet, Tahsis (choose)

*Victoria

*Vancouver

I've not put in any "At Sea" days, as I'm not that much of a navigator...

Inasmuch as my pal Rickey 88 submitted a proposed itinerary (not bad, either), I guess I might as well also:

1. Kobe, Japan (or Osaka, across the bay)

2. Hiroshima, Japan

3. Sea day

4. Nagasaki, Japan

5. Sea day

6. Shanghai, China (overnight)

7. Shanghai, China

8. Sea day

9. Naha, Okinawa

10. Taipei, Taiwan

11. Sea day

12. Hong Kong, China (overnight)

13. Hong Kong, China

Offer precruise package, one or two nights in Tokyo, Japan, with Bullet Train ride to Kobe, and transfer to ship (in either Kobe or Osaka).
