We love RCCL, but...

Recommended Posts

I know that we all obviously love RCCL since we are on these boards, but what have you seen other cruise lines do that would just put RCCL over the top if they did this too? You never know who might be reading these threads. It couldn't hurt to put a wish list out there. :)

I have only been on Royal Caribbean & Celebrity. I really liked the made-to-order pasta station on Celebrity, as I think that would be a nice addition to the Windjammer Cafe Area. Also liked the Champagne upon arrival.....classy.

Having recently sailed on Cunard (QM2) I would love to see RCCL enforce the dress code in the main dining room.

Going back to giving you champagne upon boarding AND walking you to your room would be nice!

We got champagne while boarding when we sailed Voyager this past February.

I think the only time we were ever escorted to our room was WAY back in 1991, but we didn't get any champagne.

We usually get on board before the room are ready anyway so no escort needed.

I remember being escorted throughout the 90s. Oh well. And nice that you got champagne as recently as Feb. I haven't read ANYONE say that in any reviews over the past 5, 6 months. Certainly none when I was on the Majesty. Did it have anything to do with your cabin, or did EVERYONE get it?

I don't think they do it on other lines, and it's probably a silly request, but free pop/soda. I realize that not everyone drinks it and I wouldn't want it to increase costs for everyone, but I know it costs so little and they make so much money on it.

Also, robes in each cabin.

Go back to enforcing the "no shorts" policy that you have in effect.

Keep RCCL a "traditional" cruise.

Either enforce it or do away with it. If you allow shorts in the main DR why have a Windjammer Buffet every evening? Allow shorts anytime, anywhere and shut down the Windjammer thereby saving tons of food money each week and pass the savings onto reduced cruise prices for everyone.

Same goes for Formal nights which IMO are worse.

If you can't enforce your own simple dress code why bother?

I can see why they don't want to just give out soda all day in all venues, but perhaps just in the dining room? I'm not a soda drinker, but I think a glass or two at dinner for those who do drink it would be nice. They used to...

Disney offers free pop/sodas via self-serve dispensers up on the pool deck. It was wonderful. :)

But then again, we were paying Disney prices.....

Trays in the Windjammer. I like being able to walk to a table by myself.

Schedule some night activities better. They have trivia at 8 and then our dinner is at 8:30. They have ballroom dancing but only during late seating dinner hours. I believe karaoke was also one that interfered with late seating.

Have some 24/7 cafe on all the ships not just Voyager class and younger.

There are many more reasons for why some of us choose to eat dinner in the Windjammer besides the "dress code" issues. I don't wear shorts to dinner at night but I still have all dinners in the Windjammer. If they close the Windjammer for dinner and try and force be into the MDR or pay venue I'll be sailing another cruise line.

I agree with combinable OBC's. If I buy company stock AND book early while on board, why can't I take advantage of BOTH incentives?? I met BOTH criteria. I understand that this could get out of hand and maybe some limits are in order. Otherwise long-time RCL cruisers could cruise every year for free! They company, of course, has to make money. Maybe we could be allowed to pick any two perks for which we qualify, rather than only one?

Robes in all cabins...or at least OV and above. I own a Carnival robe. I purchased it after falling in love with it on a Carnival cruise. This could actually be a money-maker for RCL.

More casual food options which are included in the price. I prefer the Windjammer to Carnival's buffet, but Carnival offers a LOT of options on their newer ships. (Deli, Asian, Pizza, Grilled items...all separate by near-by the buffet.) They even have a sushi bar that's open just before dinner. I don't eat sushi, but my friend loved it.

I'd love it if they'd institute early-booking discounts for people who book WAY in advance. It would help them by providing a snap shot of how each sailing is selling and would help those of us who are obsessive planners. Sounds like a win-win!!

Disclaimer: I LOVE RCL, and have used Carnival as a comparison because it's the only other line I've sailed.

Improve the quality of the food, particularly in the MDR. We just sailed the Paradise and, although overall we still prefer Monarch, the food just blew RCI away. It wasn't haute cuisine by any stretch, but it had flavor other than salt, the meat choices were decent cuts and (where applicable) the food was cooked as ordered by the diner. There is no reason that RCI can't at least match Carnival for food quality.

I'm amazed that RCI's new builds don't have laundromats (I can see where it would be a challenge to put ones onto existing ships). They cater to FAMILIES, for heaven's sake - who else will be doing 4 loads of laundry per cruise? I think the result is not that RCI's laundry revenues are higher but that people just pack more stuff to tide them over or wash out things in the sink.

I agree with the "Combinable Perks". They, and all the other Diamond perks (can you say Concierge?) need to be brought back, or at least Grandfathered to current Diamonds.

The laundry rooms on each deck was very useful. We won't be doing laundry while on a cruise, but to go and iron a shirt was convenient.

Also, when we were on the Grand Princess, their version of the Windjammer was open 24 hours. It was great to go there for a late nite snack after the lounges closed around 1:30. (There were 2 or 3 workers, and they kept it fresh also)
