Would you pay $95 for a behind-the-scenes tour of a cruise ship? Carnival thinks so

DH and I were just on the Caribbean Princess. Believe it or not, they wanted $150 for the tour. I'm not that interested. However, we do eat at the specialty restaurants and enjoy them.

LOL - i second that! :D

hmmm... gonna give it a go on the dream, paul? ;)

falkcor,

If they offer it on Dream, we'll do it. They will have to wave the age requirement for Britt because he'll still be eight then and I doubt we'd be able to do the tour without him. ;)

I wouldn't pay but I know I could count on a wonderful review from Paul. ;-)

cathyoo,

Thank you.

I'll make sure I get video along the way too. :)

i'd bet it'll be on dream from the get-go. just like anytime dining. new on every other ship, but it'll be a standard offering on dream... ya don't have to 'roll it out' when a ship is being 'rolled out' itself :D

i'd hope you can get britt on the tour (i didn't even pay attention to the age restrictions - i'm old enough )- because i'd bet he'd enjoy it the most :) i would have definitely enjoyed this much more as a kid than i could ever fathom now. maybe that's one of those aspects that will be 'massaged' as the program rolls out.

best of luck to you. i'd write john if this was prohibitive, because i'd love to hear your take ;)

I could care less about what goes on behind the scenes. As a matter of fact, I choose to believe it's all magic.

However, my DH would most likely be interested. If he wanted to do it, I'd be happy to fork over the money. It would get him out of my hair for three hours!

Maybe once, but I think this would make one awesome platinum perk. If not letting them do the tour for free once, maybe giving them priority in booking it.

On our Sensation cruise in July the galley tour was a platinum perk. I'm sure adding this for a fee the galley perk will disappear.

I would do this tour in a heart beat. 3.5 hours on a sea day. Do you realize how much money that would save me not being in the Casino.

We saw the bridge last year (by invitation of the Captain)....I have seen the backstage 5 times for the Legend Show....we have seen the galleys. I have been the crew bar....

so I can't see paying $95.00 for it....but I am sure that a lot of people will.

I do think it would be neat to add this as a perk for Milestone Reward Members.

I would definitely do it for that price.... not sure about DW or DD however. :( With the strict security since 9/11, seeing those parts of the ship without being some sort of super-VIP would be worth it to me.

Just my 2 cents....Nope I wouldn't pay $95 for the tour...Do you know how many DOD's that would total up to:eek::D. If Carnival was smart they would lower the price to get people interested in it before throwing out the $95.

I would guess that part of the reason for the relatively high price is to hold down the demand. They want to generate some interest in those seldom-seen parts of the ship but I doubt they want hordes of people signing up either. $95 would buy a lot of DOD's but I would do it anyway. :)

Having done pretty much the same tour (for free) on an RCL ship

I kinda know what to expect, and would like to do it again -on a CCL ship

if only for comparison

- but I also agree with others than $95 is steep.

$50 is more like it. ;)

No way, but I wouldn't pay $5 either. The only thing interesting is the bridge, IMO, and I've done that on several cruises in the past when it was still allowed.

Over 20 years ago, on NCL they offered a FREE tour of the bridge. They also had skeet shooting on the upper aft deck, $5 for 5 shots. I hit 4 out of 5!

Now....That's what I'm talking about:D
