  1. Good morning.  We went for a drive on Saturday up to the Central Coast to check out DH’s favourite beach as many of our beaches from Sydney to Newcastle were impacted by big seas and subsequent coastal erosion this week.  We were shocked by the amount of rocks exposed and the encroachment on the outdoor seating area.

Then checked out a waterfall because the council have just upgraded the picnic area and facilities adjacent to it.E62041BA-5492-4140-B23F-3A8BBC58E0F0.thumb.jpeg.c0cb842f7fcc88b0b5bce67cd3c33045.jpeg

    I hope she recovers soon!

Finnley has been battling breathing problems and fever off and on for months.  Wednesday she was admitted to the hospital.   Her oxygen level dropped to lower 80's and had a slight fever.  She was put on oxygen and had treatments every 2 hours. She is doing better now.  She is off oxygen, treatments every 4 hours and her oxygen level was 97 just a few minutes ago!  If she continues to improve,  they expect she will go home tomorrow.

Sorry to read Finnley has been so unwell.  Good news she is showing improvement and going home is on the cards.

@DaniDanielle  Hope your grand-daughter is on the improve soon too.

  3. DS is being extremely well looked after by the Fairmont Hotel group  since the evacuation.  I am very impressed especially given he and his colleagues are just seasonal workers.

Jasper NP has been very impressive too with their  updates since the evacuation.  Informative and empathetic updates provided daily which cover all  the information people need and prevents rumours. Other big companies and organisations could learn how to communicate with the public from them.

I had to share this one from today, courtesy of the Municipality of Jasper - thought all the pet lovers here would appreciate this one.BDD13F2D-8ABF-48D7-AB74-9B2E216AE4D8.thumb.jpeg.b46b1e501a82b8a582083266ccc8faaf.jpeg

We watched Witness last night.  It was the first movie we saw together when we were dating in 1986.  I still love the barn raising scene…and the accompanying music.  It’s stood the test of time; I think it’s just as good now as when it was made 39 years ago!

Gosh I loved that movie.  I still remember the little Amish  boy pointing his finger at the photo in the police station.

@Ozark_Kid It sounds like the loss of your doctor is like the passing of a loved one.  I'm sorry you lost someone who had such an important place in your life.  Hugs to you and all who loved him.

    + 1 @Ozark_Kid

and hope your family can get that fence up asap to keep the herd of deer from enjoying your gorgeous garden.

A special day today.  My grandson turns 18 today.  Not sure how it happened so fast.  We will be celebrating on Sunday.

Doug and I are thinking of going to the movies tonight.  We haven’t been since before Covid.   I keep hearing how great the new “Twisters” movie is.  Some friends saw it yesterday and loved it.   I looked up showtimes and it’s actually playing at the Drive in theater.  I went and bought car snacks, so I think we’re good if we decide to go.  Just not sure we can stay up that late anymore.  😂

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

I loved the original Twister.  Twisters was only on the cinemas here for 2 weeks then it went straight to the streaming platform that we don’t have.  Enjoy the drive-in - gosh that’s a throwback.

Happy Birthday 18th Birthday to your grandson 🎉🎂.

After the Friday evening meal together, DH, DS1 and me were very excited to view the Olympic Games opening ceremony.

At the beginning we were very impressed by the "innovative" approach of the delegates sailing along the Seine and the various performances at the same time.

After a while, it started to be quite confusing -- too much going on at the same time.

It might be us, but we gave up at the letter N 😕

I so wanted to watch this live but live here was 3am and that wasn’t going to happen

Hoping I can find a full replay.

Interesting that the surfing events are being held in Tahiti and due to there being no hotel at the small village at the surfing location, competitors and officials will be accommodated on board the cargo/cruise ship Arunai 5.

This ship offers cruises to the remote islands of Tahiti and I am keen to experience this cruise with my daughter in the future.

  8. Final Jasper update - Due to tremendous work of those on the ground overnight, the main structures in Jasper were saved including the hospital, both schools and treatment plants.

Also, very relieved that although the beautiful historic Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge did incur fire damage, most of the structures including the main lodge survived.

My son is currently spending today & the weekend with his sister.

Thoughts go out to those in Jasper who lost their homes & businesses & thankful to the authorities for evacuating everyone safely well in advance including backcountry hikers

  9. This is my 2nd last post about this because it will be all over the news shortly.  The Jasper fire has reached the township.  Absolutely devastating.  My thoughts are with the firies & the all the responders in Jasper & throughout Canada and the US (and the international crews including from Australia that have joined them) working tirelessly right now. Hope they stay safe.8C8D1FE1-BA76-40EA-B8C6-632E839742BB.thumb.jpeg.e64605d59b19b3d6a5e27cf3f62f3563.jpeg

  10. @Luckynana  My son drove from Valemount early yesterday morning to Whistler.  He arrived exhausted but his employer has  put him up in deluxe accommodation (with valet parking) for the rest of the week.  The update today from Jasper NP is not good.  Assuming he is not able to return to Jasper, he will travel down to Waterton where he worked last summer.  Yes, my daughter is in B.C. They are seeing each today.

Although, my son slept in his car, I want to say how wonderful the small community of Valemount is - dealing with a sudden influx of thousands of evacuees from Jasper in the middle of night and co-ordinating somewhere for them to sleep (many in local homes) and providing free meals the next day.

One of the most heart-warming things that was said to me recently was my step-daughter sorrowfully saying "I can't believe I have to go 9 whole days without seeing or talking to you".

This brought tears.  I love that you and your step-daughter have each other and she openly expresses how much you mean to her.

  12. My son is having an eventful evening.  His summer job is in Jasper.  At 10.30pm his time, an evacuation order went out for the town and Jasper NP due to wildfires.  Fortunately, he is smart enough to always have a full tank of petrol in his car.  He loaded up the car and with only one road open has driven west and is safely across the border into B.C to the closest town. With poor phone reception and everything being a bit chaotic,  he has just decided to sleep in his car until the morning, when he will update us further.
