  1. This is not a great idea. Remember Gratuities/Tipping should not be mandatory. Im not saying that the crew does not deserve it, I always tip deserving crew member. I prefer the old way in cash.

What if someone experiences terrible service, why should they tip?

I have cruised on lines where the tip was mandatory and I can say that the service is no where near as good as lines where they have to work for it.

People should as why this is being done, its most certainly not because too many people remove the tips. It benefits the cruise line. They hold the tips back if they feel performance and service is not what they want

They should leave as is but add a seperate line at Guest Services w/ a sign hanging over it that reads, "Tip Removal only". Staff it with just one person, departure day only. Shame those that wish to take away from those that serve them and make it inconvenient as well. If one thinks the service they received is that bad, they still have the option of removal even if it's a hassle.

  2. It's all up to you.

Well OP, there you go, it's all over the map w/ regards to tipping. Before, after, & how much, if any is all up to you. But I'll throw is nugget out there, the fine folks that serve us all are in the service trade and I haven't met anyone in the Hotel or Restaurant industry that considered a tip a bribe. The more they get, the happier they are. The happier they are, the happier we are.

    Enjoy your cruise!

  3. This is why OP should not have started her post saying they paid 10x more than others.

We don't know what others pay.

If she paid 10 times what some of us paid, it would be 50k+

No need to assume who is spending how much.

    This.

She lost me at the whole 10 times crap. By stating this, she attempted to place herself above others and/or place others below her in an effort to make her claim more credible. Either way, I don't believe for a second she paid 10 x more than myself for a RCL cruise. And if I can't believe this, I've concluded that I neeedn't believe the balance of her post.

  4. I won a RCL Pen & Pad at the Meet & Mingle once. :D

The best part of it was they announced my board name and two couples from the roll call came over to introduce themselves. We've shared multiple cruises w/ them since. It was truly a great win that day!

Congrats on your FREE Cruise. How cool is that!

  5. The OP gets no pity from me for two reasons.

    1. The arrogance is incredible. He/She has no idea what I pay, you pay, or anyone pays for their cruise vacation(s). To state he/she pays 10x's more than others is crapola.

    2. If the OP dropped $30K on a vacation without doing the research he/she deserve what they get.

A fool and their money soon depart.

  6. Im sorry but LOL

Also, Mexican owned + mexican staffed does not mean quality mexican food. Just like an american restaurant with an american staff can serve a horrible burger.

Look, if you think a burrito (which youll have trouble funding in mexico city) is worth $45 ($30 fee + $15 lost from skipping MDR), then by all means, bon apetite.

But set the expectations set when posting a public review.

You haven't even eaten at Sabor and your a critic.

  7. Who knew Mexican food inspired such snobbery? This thread is hilarious

    Agreed.

If you enjoy Mexican food that tastes like TexMex, then don't go. It isn't TexMex or really anything close to it. It's authentic Mexican cuisine. I'm not sure I would drop $135, but as a couple, we enjoy Sabor moreso than Chops when discussing any of the Specailty Restaurants.

    Have a great cruise!

  8. that's not a really good stat at all.

i believe it was estimated that there are rouhgly 200 deaths on cruises a year for about 19-24 million total passengers.

you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning

2 on the same boat is even more rare. like hitting the state lotto rare

    His was a MSNBC analysis,

When I go, I go. But I couldn't think of very many better ways to spend my last few days than on a cruise ship.

  9. We're on Millie in Aug 2017. Our first Celebrity cruise. I reached out to our TA about a RCL cruise and she offered her 'group' cruise. We really liked the itinerary (Seward to Vancouver) and was able to catch a phenomenal group rate from our TA. Otherwise, we most likely would have cruised w/ RCL. We've also never had an Aft balacony but was able to snatch a great cabin location as well. Timing was everything really. The only concern we had was if we would like the Celebrity experience. We're going w/ a group of eight so I'm thinking it will be more about our time shared vs the ship experience. Hope so anyway!

  10. After 6 cruises and 20+ excursions... I'd say about 20% of our excursions have been RCL sponsored. Ironically, the only excursion/tour that we've experienced as being late to the ship was a RCL sponsored excursion. It was our first cruise. Yes we did the Walk of Shame. Looking back, I think the driver of the van knew the ship would be waiting. My family sat in that van for 45 mins before he took off for the port. We couldn't figure out why he was waiting and he never told us either.

What you need to know is that a private tour company having late returns is devasting for their business. They pride themselves and service and timely returns.

  11. Please direct me to the manual or directive that pax on this board have consulted to alllow them to be absolutely certain that those crew members did not have permission to access the coffee machine.

And they did not learn this rude behavior from "the Millennials." They probably have been doing it all their lives. I find the older generation, of which I am a card carrying member, MUCH more "entitled" than any of the Millennials I know.

This. Shame on anyone attempting to affix blame of this behavior on Millenials. In some ways just as wrong as the two cruiser's this thread is about. The blame for their behavior lays at the feet of the two suite lounge cruisers, NOT anyone else. It is what is & they are what they are.

  12. DW and I had a wonderful cruise on the Liberty this past week, but by golly, the constant on board announcements nearly drove us crazy. I thought RCI was going to cut back on these but just about every sale and on board activity was announced on this cruise. If they are going to do this then cut out the Cruise Compass as I thought that was the purpose of the Compass any way. I prefer reading the Compass as to hearing announcements all day long. Just sayin'.

We've noticed that Day One has about 75 % off all the messages. Day Two another 15%, By Day Three, it then tapers down to nothing. They seem to do their 'hawking' of everything early on to make all aware of what is being offered etc.

  13. Reading another thread, I was reminded by what the assistant waiter said on my last cruise.

We did not find the food in the MDR on our last cruise to be all that great, and frequently left over. The crew would ask if they could bring us something else, and I just said no, we would grab a slice of pizza or something from the cafe.

One night, the assistant waiter came by and confirmed with us that we would be giving all 5s on the Guest Satisfaction survey - for service, food, etc. I told him of course we would give 5s for service, but we did not find the food to be "5" caliber. He said it didn't matter, we should give 5 for everything, and then write what we did not like in the comments. I told him that would not be my honest opinion, and he stressed that I needed to give 5s for everything, even the food. He then said, "This might be YOUR vacation, but it's MY life". It was really chilling, and I felt quite uncomfortable.

What do you make of this, and what would you have done? I am embarrassed to say that I did not complete the survey because of his words. I could not give all 5s for food that I found to be sub-par, but I did not want to affect this guy's livelihood.

I would have reported him for using this type of language and somewhat intimidation. Bottomline, the message has been lost from top management to the server. The guest evaluation is a tool, nothing more and nothing less. If the server needs to 'insure' a specific rating, the tool has failed. But it failed in implementation and execution. I suggest reporting this to the highest level on the ship, perhaps even the Capt. The cruise line truly needs to know that their evaluation program is failing via communication. At the least, the Food Mgr. needs to know.

Not reporting it means other guests will be subjected to the same treatment. I have been asked a few times to make positive comments and evaluations from several different servers etc on RCL cruises. Each time I've asked them, "Are you concerned? If so, tell me why?", before I told them that they would be truthfully evaluated.

Good post. I hate that any employee at any business suggests that I should do so & so on an evaluation. No matter how good their service might have been, it taints them & makes me feel uncomfortable.

  14. We sail on Celebrity about 50+days per year. Over time we have met Many wonderful people. Bartenders, Michaels Club hosts, Waiters etc.

As of late, I sat down to inquire about several of these people and they have all left the company? All of them. The only thing they had similar was they were all European based. On our last cruise....We had Bogdan and Romini and in the middle of the Cruise, apparently mid contract Romini signed off and quit? But she is one of many, Anca from Michaels club has also left the company I was told.... I understand there are high levels of attrition and that ship life is tough, however lately I am hearing more and more complaints from Employees who have left already about how things are getting "Worse" at Celebrity.....

One of the reasons we sail and are loyal to Celebrity is their excellent staff, as more and more start to go or don't see any future in the company, I am saddened by this.

Celebrity needs to work on their HR......Just my opinion....

    Happy sails to all!

What do you expect them to say?

"Things are getting really great at Celebrity so I quit."

There are two sides to every story and a good HR Dept doesn't tell the world their side. My point is there could be very good, solid reasons why some staff disappear, especially mid-contract. If one of the reasons you sail Celebrity is their staff, please keep in mind that the same people that hired those you miss, are the ones hiring the replacements!
