  1. We have visited Katakalon numerous times, and usually head to the beach. Our preference is St. Andreas about ten minutes by taxi or by the fun train. The further north ones were fine but not exceptional in our opinion to warrant the time and cost to get there. The driving is easy. In Corfu, there are several good beaches but our best excursion was on the Nautilus boat where we visited several great swimming spots. The water at Paleokastritsa was so cold in the summer to be unbearable and I’m Canadian.
  2. Good morning and thanks all! @marshhawk so sorry to hear your news about DH. Sending prayers and hugs! @smitty34877 I am so sorry you ran out of power last night. The last thing you need! I m sending prayers for peace and strength for tomorrow! The waiting is so hard. Agree with both of you on Britbox, will have to checkout Dr Blake. @Cruzin Terri glad you are enjoying your cruise! Lovely photos! @aliaschiefyikes, I hope it heals quickly! Bruges is so gorgeous, you may have to console yourself with chocolate and Kriek @Crazy For Catshappy birthday to your DH! @ottahand7your cabin is a dream! I will share some alternative photos of Mykonos
  3. Ok now I’m giggling! We encountered this double experimental roundabout a number of years ago, jet lagged after arriving at Heathrow we will never forget Swindon! They had also lost our luggage that trip and we had to go out later that day to purchase clean underwear in Uk sizing. A most memorable trip, lol! For Sintra the train form Lisbon works very well!
  4. @luvteaching sending prayers for peace and strength at this difficult time
  5. I think it depends where you’re driving. The Algarve was fine, but returning the car to the airport in Lisbon was frightful literally. Lots of roundabouts for sure, and new roads generally.
  6. I’m going to jump in to the discussion as we have spent several weeks in the area. Lecce is an absolutely beautiful city that is a bit off the radar. We really enjoyed wandering around there. We also had the good fortune to stay in a Trulli in Noci and to visit Marina Franca and Alberobello and Ostuni. Truly an unforgettable experience. We also stayed near Matera and it is also worth the visit. So unfortunately you are only limited by time and choice. I am sure you will be happy on any of these tours but if the drive is two hours each way I think I’d opt for Lecce. Photos of Lecce, Noci, and then Matera
  7. We’ve visited Katakalon a number of times and usually head to the beach. We did rent a car one time and drove a little further afield but not sure it was worth it. We too would be interested in Pirgos. Probably also time to visit Olympia again. We’ve used taxis and the fun train. @Ine thanks for the link, looks like public buses go to Pirgos,
  8. Memories of great times are priceless!
  9. Good morning and thanks all! @luvteaching praying all goes well. @Sharon in AZ Happy Birthday! @StLouisCruisersalso happy birthday wishes Sandi to your DD @kazu happy heavenly anniversary to your DD DH and hugs! So glad I wasn’t confused. @kochleffel best wishes on your retirement. I would love to celebrate take a dog to work day if I was working! I also as a nana have to celebrate fairies! and I had to love this sign We were supposed to visit Kagoshima, but a late portchange had us visit Sakaiminato instead. Although we were initially disappointed we throughly enjoyed seeing a black castle and one of the top gardens and museums in Japan. We so enjoyed our boat trip on the canal complete with singing, laying down to go under bridges and the most giggling in a long time.
  10. @rafinmd Wishing you a very happy 80th birthday Roy! Enjoy that cake and ice cream. @ottahand7yikes and ouch! Hope it heals quickly! Agree with Jacqui, check on your tetanus shots. @kazu I sure hope Ivan is on the mend and it’s nothing serious. I like the quote as I prefer people who are authentic. I admire all the brave widows I know, Many, many on here! My mom was widowed for over 26 years. Our dear elderly neighbour lost his wife this week after 74 years of marriage, so sad and yet so nice they had so long together. @dfish Thanks for all those interesting recipes, I’m not sure about orange flower water.
  11. I love halibut! And the salmon we’ve had in Alaska has been great. And compared to the cost of a fishing trip to these areas it sounds almost reasonable! It’s always a plus when they make use of the local food. Our very first cruise was to Alaska and they had a barbecue on deck with fresh fish they had just loaded hours earlier. That inspired my love of halibut and salmon.
  12. Nice when they go above and beyond. You can’t buy the goodwill being treated fairly generates.
  13. Just have to pop in and say again how much I enjoyed your thread! I am missing it, we may have to take up a collection for you to go again🤷‍♀️😀
  14. @ottahand7please wish John a happy birthday! @rafinmdhappy attainment day! @cruising sisterI’m sure it’s hard to say goodbye to the memories, but I hope you enjoy your new vehicle! Hard to get the right size, I love my Lexus SUV but new ones are bigger, so I am happy to keep it but will get a hybrid next time too. Good morning and thanks all, great photos of the port and other places! Thanks! Our last trip to London we took a river boat down the Thames to Greenwich. It is a relaxing and very interesting trip, the museum is quite amazing with interesting maritime exhibits.
  15. Sending hugs to @kazu Hoping Ivan will be ok! Grief never really ends. and more hugs to @smitty34877 these roads are hard and lonely at times. I find cancer like the lines at Disneyland, there are so many twist and turns. I am inspired by the caring in this community and how so many are and have come to grips with life changing events with such grace! Too many to mention. I taught some of the early boat people who were escaping from Vietnam. I’ll never forget their stories. My DS has worked with many refugees and supported them in their court hearings. We are fortunate that we don’t really know what it’s like for them to leave their homes and risk so much.
  16. Love that quote! Wish more people lived that way! @smitty34877 good luck at the oncologist, always so many questions. @Heartgrove so tricky picking out paint colours! I’m sure it will be great. we are finally getting some rain and some snow and sleet in different areas!
  17. The beauty of the aft wrap is the wonderful balcony, sun or shade. It was Devine!
  18. Good morning and Happy Father’s Day! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Rotterdam and sailing out of Rotterdam on the former Rotterdam. A beautiful city, with wonderful restaurants and museums. A very amazing experience! @smitty34877 our DHs share the same birthday! Glad you had a nice celebration. @Cruzin Terri sorry to hear about your luggage, from what I’m hearing it is all too common lately. Good you allowed enough time for it to catch up. And if you have credit card or travel insurance it should cover you right now for anything you need to purchase. We once arrived at Heathrow with only the clothes on our backs, not fun, but easy not hauling luggage.
  19. @durangoscots happy birthday Susan! @aliaschief you’re visiting some interesting places! Enjoy! We had the good fortune to stay at a wine agents home there 😀 @Quartzsite Cruiser we did most of our road trips in our motor home and later fifth wheel. But now we’ve got a permanent lot, so back to car. I’d think I’d like a small motorhome, but with some of those prices hotels look good, as do cruises 😉
  20. Good morning and thanks all! Agree about Colon, we got off the ship and got right back on after five minutes. Eek! I love road trips, last big one was to Arches and Canyonlands, but agree with @ger_77 re the price of motels, average seems to be at least 300! We have been planning one in the Canadian mountain parks and it can even be more. The beautiful Fairmont properties are well over a thousand! @Cruzin Terri Bon voyage and safe travels, wishing you a fabulous trip!
