  1. I don't cruise on Carnival, my feed sent me the link on this thread. Just how bad is Carnival "struggling with drugs and violence "? Are we talking opium dens or just the occasional whiff of weed? And I've not heard of any cartel involved shootings on any cruise line, so please enlighten me....
  2. I hate to pile on but I was able to reserve all our evening meals for out December 10th sailing back in mid-August, and we're first-timers as well. Cruise lines are filling their ships with little to no effort, raising prices and cutting perks with impunity. They have no incentive to show any gratitude to their repeat customers.
  3. We're booked on the Caribbean Princess for the 12/10 - 12/17 Eastern Caribbean cruise. The JourneyView page in the app is now showing the week's activities, including the nightly shows. I'd like some input from those who have recently traveled on her and gone to any of these productions whether or not they are worth the time? They are as follows: Night 1 - Comedian Carlos Oscar Night 2 - Fantastic Journey Night 3 - Whitney Houston Tribute Night 4 - Born To Be Wild Night 5 - Duo Hohreacov Night 6 - Bravo Night 7 - Farewell Variety Show
  4. I guess you'll have to try again tomorrow. Worst case, they take it at embarkation as already mentioned.
  5. The app can sometimes be a bit wonky. Have you tried using the web portal instead of the app?
  6. The OP didn't mention any demographic information about himself, but if he's getting singled out more than normal it might be profiling?
  7. I went and double-checked, the description of the mini-suite gave the square-footage and stated it includes the balcony, so it's all good. I was just concerned because we currently have a balcony, and that's what we like.
  8. Hmmm, I made the assumption when bidding for an upgrade for a club-class mini-suite on the Caribbean Princess that it will have a balcony? I guess I will need to verify before I accept an upgrade...
  9. When we went on our very first cruise on RCL Radiance Of The Seas to Alaska I was part of an extended family group (wife, son, sister-in-law and her husband and their 2 sons, and my Mother-in-Law). My sister-in-law, who was an experienced cruiser, informed us about the 2 formal nights in the MDR and that we'd have to dress up. I protested profusely, as I feel that it is a vacation, not a business trip. But I didn't want to be the proverbial t**d in the punchbowl so I went ahead and packed my suit & tie. On the first formal night while we were in the MDR there was a guy dressed like a beach bum. It was only then that I realized that "formal attire" was merely a suggestion and not a hard rule. Needless to say that was the LAST time I wore my dress clothing, and I've never taken anything above "smart casual" on a cruise. Bottom line - if the people running the show on these cruises don't have the backbone or other anatomical items to tell someone to go put on decent clothing then don't even call it "formal" night.
  10. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I've bid on an upgrade to a mini-suite. I won't be upset if it's not accepted, our balcony room will be just fine. The only reason I'm trying to do it is for my wife. I'm handling all the arrangements, so she's totally unaware of what's going on. If I win the upgrade I'll surprise her when we open the door to our cabin....
  11. Those are about the only times you'll see me in a suit and tie.
  12. Thanks! I bid $350 (minimum was $250). We'll see what happens..
  13. Just curious, how did you know it was shipped on the 3rd? Does Princess notify you when the medallions are on their way?
  14. As long as you don't look like Tim Curry in Rocky Horror Picture Show you'll be just fine....
  15. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you bid? We're on a 7-day Eastern Caribbean, leaving 1 month from tomorrow, and I also bid to upgrade from a balcony to a mini-suite.
  16. No, I don't usually upgrade any apps unless forced to. I'm using the version I loaded in June when we first booked our cruise.
  17. I have an Android phone (Samsung S22) and have not experienced any issues preparing for our upcoming trip in December. I've used it to do all the preparation work (travel docs, medallion orders, meal reservations, excursions) and so forth. Hopefully my luck will continue when we're aboard. But I'll still bring hard copies of all our documents just to be safe!
  18. I bid in what was deemed "fair" range, just a small amount over the minimum, balcony to CC Mini Suite, for CB on December 10th. We'll see what happens....
  19. The polite term is "follically challenged"...
  20. Yep. Let them judge me, I don't give a rat's patootie. I've just bought some new jeans and knit polo shirts to fit me after dropping quite a bit of weight, and I think I look good in them. I will be traveling with just a carry-on for the week so I won't have the space for another pair of shoes or dress clothing. I got bamboozled by my sister-in-law when we went on our very first cruise in 2015 with RCL, she said we HAD to have dress clothes for their 2 formal nights as well. I threw a tantrum worthy of a 3 year-old when she told us that, but I went along and took my suit & tie. When I saw people show up in the MDR dressed like beach bums on the first formal night and not be turned away I blew a gasket! NEVER AGAIN!!!!
  21. I have an S22 and had zero problems loading or using the app. I would check to make sure you have enough memory available. When was the last update? I would take it to wherever you purchased your phone and have them do some troubleshooting.
  22. This exactly why the wife (59) & I (60) are trying Princess for the first time. I intentionally booked an early December cruise, kids likely to be in school, slower season, etc.
  23. If it was a balcony below ours I might be tempted to pee on them...
  24. We also did the Premium package when I booked our cruise this coming December. I tried to book our 2 specialty dinners on the sea days as we wanted to avoid the formal night BS in the MDR. One of the 2 nights was already showing as not available at either venue, and this was 2 months ago. This is our first trip with Princess so I can't speak from experience, but I would say if you go to guest services as soon as you get aboard they might be able to help you. Since you're a loyal Platinum-level guest perhaps they will try to accommodate your request?
