  1. For several years I have used a find my car app on my phone to find my way back to the ship. It is made to find where you parked your car, but I use it to find my ship. As soon as I'm off the ship, I tell the app that this is where I'm parked. Even in a foreign country without cellular service to pull up a map, the app still points you in the right direction and tells you how far you are from where you "parked."
  2. The attendant would need x-ray vision to see through steel plates. The Starboard and Port sides of the Serenity Deck on this ship were separated by an interior elevator lobby.
  3. I was on one cruise where a person arrived early to reserve the entire Starboard side of the Serenity deck for his group by placing items on the loungers. He has the only guest occupying a lounger on that side of the deck. The deck steward made her rounds and placed paper tags with the time marked on the unoccupied loungers. As soon as the deck steward went to the Port side of the deck, the designated chair hog removed all of the paper slips from the loungers.
  4. Priority Water Shuttle Boarding / Priority Debark at Ports of Call with Arrivals Later than 9:30am Guests can take advantage of priority water shuttle service from ship to shore (multiple departure times may be possible) so they can explore ashore as quickly as they want to. For ports where we do not use a water shuttle, to make debarkation as smooth as possible, we also offer priority debark at ports of call with arrivals later than 9:30am. A letter will be placed in the guest's suite with instructions where to meet and the window of time this service is available. This service is not for those booked on a Carnival shore excursion as these guests are given separate instructions when and where to meet.
  5. I am basing this on 3 different Carnival Journeys cruises that we took pre-Covid. I hope that Covid has not given Carnival an excuse to cut back on this. Their website still says that Journeys cruises will have the Academy of Fun, their name for lectures. I assume that you are on the Pride repositioning next month, since it is the only TA listed for October. This is listed as a Journeys cruise. See the following link for information about Journeys cruises: https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3936/~/carnival-journeys-cruises
  6. These were not Journeys cruises. Most people sail Europe cruises mainly for the ports. Onboard entertainment is secondary. After a long day in port and an early arrival at port the next day, many of the guests are too tired for much entertainment. Our Celebration TA is a Journeys cruise, so we should have a guest lecturer onboard who will deliver 5 different lectures, two times each. John Heald is supposed to be on this cruise as well and he will probably do a couple of Q&A's. Lee Mason will be the CD. IMHO he is the best of the current CD's. We had him on a sea day intense 15-day Hawaii Journeys cruise on the Splendor and he had a very entertaining morning show every sea day,
  7. The best lectures that we ever attended on Carnival were by Josh Waltzman who was a cruise director and is now a PVP. He is a WW2 history buff and has done extensive research. His lectures were quite informative and entertaining. We learned a lot from him that is not in your typical history book.
  8. In the past, Carnival relied on the Cruise Director to plan extra activities for the many sea days on a TA. For most, this was their first experience with a TA, and they did not have access to the resources necessary to develop a good plan. Carnival has since come up with the Journeys cruise concept that has a number of structured activities that are not present on shorter, more port intensive cruises. See the following link: https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3936/~/carnival-journeys-cruises
  9. TA's are typically Journeys cruises. Cruises listed as Journeys cruises have had guest lectures in the past. We have sailed on 3 Carnival cruises with a guest lecturer. They call this the Academy of Fun. Carnival's website is still listing this. Academy of Fun Who knew it would be fun to learn while on vacation? You will be invited to attend a series of enrichment courses designed to help expand your horizons such as photography, stargazing and social media – these are just a few types of classes you might find on board.
  10. This year, Carnival Spirit ends the Alaska season with a 16-day repositioning cruise from Seattle to Miami via the Panama Canal. Next year it will end the Alaska season with a 16-day Seattle to New Orleans. These cruises have several sea days. After completing the Alaska season, Carnival Splendor is just now leaving on a 23-day Seattle to Sydney repositioning, but it is too late to get on this cruise. Looks like it will be spending at least the next 2 years in Australia. When we first started cruising, Carnival allowed the B2B last Alaska Cruise followed by a cruise to Hawaii "Fire and Ice" cruise. It has since been deemed a violation of the PVSA, and Carnival will not allow this B2B booking.
  11. Look at to the second to last bullet point about "opportunity to work across brands." Reciprocity among Carnival Corporation brand loyalty programs is something many of us have wanted for a long time. Hope this is more than just lip service.
  12. On our past, pre-Covid 14-day cruises, menus did not repeat and there were 3 Elegant Nights.
  13. We rented umbrellas there earlier this year on a Mardi Gras cruise. I was the first one off the ship to make sure we were able to get 4 loungers and 2 umbrellas for the family close to the water so we could keep an eye on our grandchildren. I paid cash to one of the several attendants on the beach. You may also be able to pay with a credit card. I think the umbrellas had all been rented within an hour, but I did not pay much attention since we already had ours.
  14. As others have mentioned, it is important that all of your bookings are linked so the maitre d' knows to seat you together. You can do this online under the "Booking & Order" tab in your cruise manager. I believe that there are only two circular tables on this class of ship that can accommodate 12 persons. They can also push multiple rectangular top tables together to accommodate 12 or more. If you wait until you board, neither of these options will likely be available. If you are using a PVP, your PVP can send a seating request for you directly to the ship. If not, you can email the maitre d' with your request, but the maitre d' is not obligated to read or honor requests sent directly from a guest. Some will, others won't. You can search this forum for how to contact the maitre d'. In any event, so long as your bookings are linked, your group should be seated at tables that are near each other.
  15. Based on Journeys cruises taken before Covid, menus will be different each night, A few entrees will be repeated. They also bring back some items from past menus that have been retired to provide more variety It may be more of a challenge now with supply issues.
  16. You can also use the gift cards before your cruise to pay the balance of your cruise fare, pay for prebooked excursions, FLYTOFUN airfare, prebooked specialty dining, and Funshop purchases. I typically take enough gift cards with me to cover my expected onboard costs and apply the amount at a kiosk on the final full day based on my balance at that time.
  17. The Carnival bashing comedians on RCCL will now have to find some new material!
  18. If after more than 20 years of cruising with Carnival and being able to get Heineken Beer, they no longer carried Heineken. Oh wait, they just stopped carrying Heineken two months ago!
  19. We were in a similar situation a couple of weeks ago. We used the Abbott Binax Now proctored tests and everyone tested negative, so there was no need to use the DOR. This allowed all of us to be cleared by Verifly, which speeds up check in process. You can't be cleared on Verifly with a DOR. If you want to use the DOR to see how it works even if everyone tests negative, your check in may be delayed since you will likely be sent to a different line and asked more questions. If you are not in a hurry to board, then that probably isn't an issue.
  20. We were told that Carnival is having the Captain avoid contact with guests to prevent him from catching Covid.
  21. Written on physician practice's letterhead and signed and dated by physician: "To whom it may concern - PATIENT NAME tested positive for Covid-19 on MM/DD/YYYY. PATIENT NAME has since recovered and is clear to travel. If you have further questions regarding this patient's health status, please contact us at (xxx)-xxx-xxxx."
  22. Here is the link: https://www.carnival.com/Legal/covid-19-legal-notices/covid-19-guest-protocols?icid=advisory_cruisehealth_040122 The explanation for Document of Recovery is a little more than halfway down. Carnival defines a "Document of Recovery" as a certified positive test result taken at least 10 days but no more than 90 days before boarding. You also need to not be experiencing symptoms at boarding time. We are boarding next week, and just to be safe, we also obtained a letter of recovery from our doctor for DH who recovered over 2 weeks ago. Technically this is not required, but others have claimed that uninformed shoreside agents have asked for this.
