  1. Never on the first or last night and most often on sea days. You can see which nights are scheduled as formal nights on your cruise in the Journey View activities timeline in the app. Every evening will show either “casual” or “formal” portraits. I’ve seen it populate as much as a couple of months before a cruise.
  2. I was told that Cai Lan and the Halong International Cruise port are part of the Hon Gai Seaport Complex and that Phu My is a component port of the Vung Tau Seaport Complex
  3. I believe they mentioned that they’ve contacted the police. As for their insurance, obviously it depends on their specific policy. In some cases, trip interruptions or cancellations are covered if it is due to being the victim of a crime.
  4. I was thinking more about coverage for victims of crimes. Loss of travel documents is different than theft. There might be some compensation available for the theft of the bag containing the money and passports.
  5. Wishing them the best! Have they checked to see if they have any coverage for the theft through credit cards or possibly even homeowners insurance, although I’m not sure how UK insurance works.
  6. Passport cards have your name, photo, and date of birth but unique numbers and dates can be different. I would still want to have the information from my passport
  7. I do too. Other options are sending them to yourself as an attachment to an email. A photo saved on your phone can also be helpful
  8. FYI - you don’t have to post to follow. Just scroll down to the last post and click the follow button that appears below. Then select your preferences
  9. There is a link for mobility assistance under “Check-in” in the cruise personalizer on the website. It includes a phone number and email
  10. This is all well and good for people who travel once or twice a year but being without a passport for months with “expedited” processing has made life very challenging for frequent travelers. It seems absurd in this day and age that people have to go to the trouble and expense of having two passports so that they can have time to renew.
  11. I would skip the Lumberjack show if you are all adults. The Deadliest Catch is fun for everyone though
  12. I think everyone should wear what they want, but there is nothing dangerous about high heels for women who are accustomed to wearing them.Ships officers all wear them on formal nights and dancers have worn them for the trickiest steps requiring the most balance forever. Cruise ships are way too stable to require flat rubber soled shoes at all times.
  13. Skagway - The Yukon Expedition and White Pass Scenic Railway are very nice. If it were me I would consider this tour rather than the ship excursion though https://chilkootcharters.com/bennett-scenic-journey/ Juneau - We had an absolutely amazing day whale watching with Jaylene's Alaska. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed going out with her. Their boats only take 6 people at a time. https://jayleensalaska.com/ Ketchikan - I think any kids would love the Deadliest Catch Excursion. It's a lot of fun. It would be less expensive ($209 adults, $129 kids) to book directly and just go on your own. It's very close to the ship https://alaskacrabtour.com/ You can also book the Lumberjack show directly and save a bit https://alaskanlumberjackshow.com/
  14. Real ID is not the same thing as enhanced drivers licenses. Enhanced drivers licenses meet Real ID standards but are a different document that can be used at some border crossings. They are only available to US citizens and only in a few states and have features like RFID chips. In Michigan, they mark Real ID compliant licenses with a star and EDL’s have the US flag on them. It’s confused a lot of people who thought thy could use their new Real ID compliant licence to drive into Canada. Real ID compliant licenses don’t require US citizenship and are available from states that don’t offer EDL’s. They can be used for domestic travel, entering federal buildings etc, but not border crossings. https://www.dhs.gov/enhanced-drivers-licenses-what-are-they
  15. If getting the dress steamed or pressed is important, there is no other option. I’ve never had anything lost or damaged, although we don’t send much out, usually just dress shirts. I prefer to do my own laundry. One thing I recently noticed is that their prices are way less than my local dry cleaner. Even if you aren’t Elite, it could be worth it to send out cleaning. I was really surprised!
  16. I can imagine that as a possibility. An expired passport might be accepted as proof of citizenship in some situations, but it’s not an acceptable travel document. The passenger might not be aware of that.
  17. I don’t know what you read so it’s hard to know what the problem was. Document requirements depend on the passenger’s nationality, itinerary, and other factors. For example, if one adult is traveling with one or more minors, Princess requires everyone in the party to have a passport. You can see Princess’ Travel Document requirements here https://www.princess.com/learn/faq/pre-cruise/prepare-for-your-cruise/
  18. Steamers are not allowed and can be confiscated. If you want to iron your own things, they are available in the launderette on every deck. I wouldn’t hesitate to send a dress out though.
  19. I‘ve been able to see all of the shows for a cruise that is 5 weeks away for a couple of weeks now. Not everything has populated but the shows (and bingo) are there. I think we saw it a long time ahead of time on the Caribbean princess last month too.
  20. In my experience, cruises in Europe have more people complying with the requested dress code on formal nights than Caribbean, Mexico or Alaska itineraries.
  21. I’ve seen it as early as a couple of months ahead of time but also not until right before sailing. Shows are most often at 7:30 and 9:30. 8:00 and 10:00 is also possible.
  22. The lodges don’t book cruise tours. The only way to compare their tours and cruise tours is to look at the options on both websites or perhaps consult an experienced TA Cruise tours include transfers to the ship and often use motor coaches rather than all trains
  23. The only way to book a tour at the lodges combined with a cruise is with a cruisetour through Princess Cruises. Anyone can book at the lodges either as a part of of tour or just as lodging, there is no requirement to be a cruise passenger. I liked the flexibility of choosing my own land tour and also the fact that the rail tours didn’t have bus travel the way the cruise tours did. We started in Fairbanks and did the 3TS unescorted 6 night tour to Anchorage, stayed 2 nights there, and booked our own transfer to Whittier with Salmonberry Tours
  24. I’ve seen notifications as early as a month ahead of time and as late as 5:30 pm the day before sailing.
