What are your cost cutting observations
Sunshine3601 replied to mojomanny's topic in Royal Caribbean International
The OP is saying, i think, is no blue cheese dressing at the buffet salad bar but the wedge salad served in dining room had blue cheese dressing but no blue cheese crumbles that typically come with a wedge salad. -
What does a Royal Caribbean new cruiser need to know?
Sunshine3601 replied to Sigyn's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Keep in mind there is always the Windjammer buffet open for dinner should MTD in the dining room not fit your evening schedule. As well as some pay options such as JRs and Playmakers that your teenage Son may like. -
It is a nice relaxing way to travel and see some sights out of the window of the train. We are thinking about taking Amtrak from Boston to Philly to get us back home from our September repo cruise. for us the ride is a little over 5 hrs vs. flying 1.5 hrs and we could then switch trains at 30th street station in PHL to get to upper bucks county (about 1 hr with septaI regional rail). Much easier than going thru check-in, TSA at airport and waiting to see if your flight is on time and if your luggage actually makes it. The only thing that has me hesitating is the fact I have to go work the next day and would rather be home quicker so I can unpack, do laundry and go to the food store since we will be away for 2 weeks.

What does a Royal Caribbean new cruiser need to know?

If you want internet it is best to buy on the cruise planner now before boarding. the onboard price is somewhere around $24.99 to $26.99 per device depending on the ship. If you booked my time dining, you want to make your reservations on the cruise planner too. If you booked traditional dining, seating times are usually 5:30 and 8:00 or 8:30 pm - again depends on the ship. It is best to download the royal caribbean app before checking in at the terminal and you can do the health questionnaire 24 hrs before embarkment and you can watch the safety video (e-muster). Once onboard report directly to your muster station (station number will be on your boarding pass). Best to get this done right away and not worry about it. Cabins are usually around 1 pm so we always check in our luggage outside with the porters and keep our backpacks with us that contain laptop and medicines. We usually board the ship between 12 and 1 pm so we do the muster drill then go right to our cabin to drop off backpacks then get our lunch. Windjammer buffet will be very busy on boarding day. Everything will be very busy on boarding day, including elevators. The next day will be much calmer. If you want towels for the pool there is a towel station near the pools It is very important that you return your towels to this location when done or they will charge you $25 per towel if not returned. If you want a paper compass (daily activity schedule) delivered to your cabin every day, you must ask your room steward to bring this otherwise you can use the app to view activities and shows. -
Doing a test is no guarantee. It simply means at that moment you are not positive. I.e. when I had covid for the 1st time in October it originated from my job. When I went to work on a Thursday and learned some people called out sick I was asked to test at work. I did and I was negative. Felt fine. Tested positive Friday morning.

In all honestly, that I wouldn't do. I would just buy a test kit at a local pharmacy and do it yourself in the hotel room in NYC before boarding. Yes, I agree it is quite ridiculous that they will accept a simple photo or the actual covid test strip at the port for check in with no way to verify you actually did the test to yourself.

Movies under the stars on Oasis?
Sunshine3601 replied to Habs_CatD's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Yes they show movies at the Aqua theater. Do not recall if they were also shown on pool deck big screen on Oasis. I know it is the norm on smaller ships at pool deck. We always enjoy too! -
If you don't have a cell phone that can allow you to do a proctered test than you can do a test yourself without supervision as stated on royals website. That means you simply bring that negative test strip with you. You can do that day of boarding or day before, just be sure to put that test strip somewhere safe.

Royal discontinued their mobile test lab that was at cape liberty last summer when they changed rules for testing. You best check if QM2 still has an option to test onboard. If not, then you can purchase test kits at home and simply do yourself. Based on royal faq sheet self administered test is acceptable. Which might mean you just take a digital photo of the negative result or bring it with you to show them in person. Best double check. If Cunard does test and provides you with a print out of negative test that should work fine.

Need for cell phones on Oasis of the Seas
Sunshine3601 replied to the_dylaness's topic in Royal Caribbean International
Impossible for every bar to list every drink they can make. I know the pub does have a small list of their specialty drinks. Just ask for what you want to drink and they should accommodate you. Paper Menus are provided in dining rooms and specialty restaurants. Paper compass can be delivered to your cabin, just ask room steward on 1st say for them. No they do not track you. A lot of people cannot imagine a day without their phone so royal has an app (that did come in handy during covid). It is Not a requirement for you to cruise but does have some features that are nice to view. -
Oasis changes/getting nervous
Sunshine3601 replied to Cruise a holic's topic in Royal Caribbean International
We had 6 cruises in 2022. Our least favorite was Oasis beginning of September. Very disappointed with the WJ, not thrilled with Solarium bistro, not too pleased with CK either (we were in a JS). Breakfast at JRs was good but wasnt happy with their burgers for lunch and the new charge. So we stuck with MDR for all our other meals, food was decent but nothing great. We had a brand new waiter, just boarded the same day we did. He was fabulous. We enjoy quantum or radiance class much better. We feel we get better service and better food. -
Have you already reserved the Royal shuttle? If not here is a link with number to call their transportation dept. https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/port-arrival-travel-options After you collect your luggage you will follow the signs for transportation / shuttle buses. You should then see a stand or podium set up to check in for the Royal shuttle. At least this is the norm with other airports.

Rhapsody Transatlantic November
Sunshine3601 replied to compman9's topic in Royal Caribbean International
If you mean get off at a different port than where you embark, the answer is No. They will only allow if there is a medical or family emergency and even then they have to get permission from the customs agent at that port or they risk a hefty fine.
