  1. I believe it is two classes total during a cruise. So with your numbers, that would be 40 classes over the course of the cruise. Still hard to believe enough classes will be scheduled, especially on short voyages. For a 7 day cruise with 6 full days, that would over 6 classes a day every full day including port days.

  4. My experience on Carnival was slightly different. I've been on carnival for muster on deck everyone pushed close together outside very cold and waiting what seemed like forever because we had to wait until everyone who was supposed to be at that station showed up.
  5. That is the reason you need to check in at the muster station either before of after watching the video. This way you know (at least for a minute) where your muster station is located. By the way, one of the benefits of bringing your life jacket with you when you went to the muster station previously was it it is coded with which muster station you are assigned to and staff could direct you to the proper location even if you did not know your cabin number.
  6. It could anytime from when boarding starts until about 1 PM. Since this is your first cruise with Princess, be aware that one dining room is open for lunch from Noon until 1:30 PM on embarkation day. You can opt for that instead of the buffet if you want.
  7. Are you saying there is only one flight schedule option available under EZAir? Usually you will have a number of flight options to select from. Could this be because the airport you use in NY state has limited flights or limited airlines serving it? Princess might have a number of flight options from JFK to Athens but limited options from your home airport to JFK. I agree with the suggestion made in another post above to see what options are available from JFK to Athens and then make other arrangements to get to NYC. (Note that if you book the flights from your home airport and from JFK separately, you cannot check your luggage all the way through from your home airport to Athens. One of you would need to collect them at JFK, check them with the airline to Athens and go through TSA security again at JFK. Allow plenty of time for that in your scheduling.) You may want to call Princess and ask to speak directly with someone in the air department to discuss your problem.

  9. When they had magnetic stripes, people often found they had accidentally wiped the info by having the card too near a magnet such as one in a purse enclosure. Based on posts on Cruise Critic, many more people experienced having to replace a demagnetized cruise card and people are having to replace a Medallion because of a dead battery. Cruise staff have reported that their Medallions get replaced about once a month so that they can be replaced before the batteries die.
  10. The photo the staff sees on their screens is of you. The photo the public sees on public screens is whatever you wanted it to be.
  11. No need to have them ask. Computer systems have it tied to your passport number. You would only be asked if somehow it did not get tied to your passport.
  12. Rationale is simple: Squeeze as much $$$ as possible from the customer until it reaches the point the customer no longer is willing to spend the $$$. Remember that the current President of Princess came from Disney, a company that has raised the art of squeezing $$$ from customers to a new high.
  13. When we would order beverages in a lounge, the waiter asked for our cabin number. Much quicker for him than using a device to look at a bunch of pictures of people around him and then select the right person. No, the system knows the location of the Medallion, not your location unless you are in the vacinity of the Medallion. You could be out of your cabin the entire time the video is playing and the system would think you watched it if you left your Medallion in the cabin.(Someone else could be in the room to let you back in.) The cruise card they would issue you probably also can be held up to a slot machine in the same way it is helf up to the display outside your cabin to unlock the door.
  14. a) When you receive the Medallion, it comes with a lanyard. However I just kept the Medallion in a pocket the entire cruise. b) It unlocks your cabin door, but you still need to open the door. c) When I cruised with the Medallion, I found the unlocking of the door to be the best benefit of having it. Very disappointed when I returned home and the door to the house did not automatically unlock when I approached it.
  15. I guess those people always keep their cell phone turned off when not cruising since a turned on cell phone is tracked wherever you are on land.

  17. Correct. Waitstaff in the specialty restaurants and at the Chef's Table are part of the tipping pool. (By the way, it is my understanding that the service charge for specialty dining does not include any gratuity since the staff is part of the tipping pool.) On the other hand, remember that the daily "crew appeciation" charge is shared among all those eligible in the entire Princess fleet. In other words, it does not all go to the staff that actually served you. It is possible that the people who actually serve you and take care of your cabin may only get about a penny a day from your auto tips (paid by you or included in a Princess package). If every passenger on every Princess ship contributes, then the staff that serves you gets a proper share. However, if you give a cash tip to waitstaff or your cabin steward, he/she can keep 100% of it. So if you give a cash tip for great service, that will be more than the seven cents that person gets from you for a week cruise through the crew appreciation charge.
  18. Was today a Production Show? One place on the Princess web site says the seat will only be reserved for production shows.
  19. You may still need to plan ahead as the number of those reserved seats is far less than the number of people eligible to sit in them. Only time will tell if you show up 20 minutes before the show if any seats are left there.

  21. Note that this is for dinner, not lunch that day. You do not have to be in a suite to eat there that evening, but full suite passengers get it for free the first evening while others pay. As mentioned, full suite passengers can have breakfast in a specialty restaurant. It is not a specialty restaurant menu, but a special breakfast one for full suite passengers. Full suite passengers (and some (not all) mini-suite passengers) can eat breakfast, lunch (when available) and dinner in a special section of a main dining room labeled as Club Class. It is anytime dining and you show up when you want to eat during open hours and you will be immediately almost all of the time. No reservation necessary.The menu is the same as in the rest of the dining room but there is usually one extra item only available to those eating in Club Class,
  22. When making a booking, the customer selects what promotion is currently going on and then a group discount is factored in. So if the members of your group booked under different promotions, then the OBC received from that source may be different. Also, different Travel Agents may or may not add onboard OBC to a booking. If the members of your group used different TAs, then that could also explain some of the difference. Sometimes the amount of OBC depends on the type cabin booked. An inside cabin could get less OBC than a balcony cabin. Did all of your group book the same type cabin? Even with a group booking, an FCD can be used as a deposit. Did some of your group apply an FCD and thus get the OBC associated with it? Sometimes Princess has special OBC promotions based on where a person lives. Do all of the people in your group live in the same geographical area?
