  1. I don't get the shoe thing. Your wife violated the dress code. You say the manager "immediately " came to your table. Isn't that exactly what would be expected? Sure, maybe they could have told you before you were seated but I don't understand how anyone could possibly think the staff would know your wife has special needs if you don't tell them. You know your wife's needs. From your words, you also know it's a sensitive subject for her. Why not be a gentleman and tell the staff discreetly BEFORE you're seated? It seems to me you were upset about the deck (rightfully so) and you're looking to pile on the most minor things to reinforce how terrible you think the trip was.
  2. I travel quite a bit. Because of that, I've spent quite a bit of time following the travel industry. No matter if it's airline, hotel, cruise ship, etc, people really love to throw around their mid-level loyalty "status". And guess what? No one cares. You may have legitimate issues to share but adding platinum really does nothing but make the staff giggle behind your back. Leave out the platinum, be factual and be brief.
  3. Before everyone overeacts, please keep in mind that the pause is until Monday! Litterally 72 hours!
  4. There's a huge difference between planning a trip together, randomly running into people you know and secretly, specifically booking a trip to be with someone who has no clue you're there.
  5. Gary, As you know, I'm on the same cruise I've spent far too much time in Europe (including Italy) with my job and I'm extremely comfortable with the trains and transportation. We have almost 2 years but in certainly happy to help you out in advance and as disembarkation. We can even take the train or get a driver together if you want. I'm also a Bonvoy elite so odds are we'll be looking at similar hotels anyway.
  6. Just remember, the written rules are what you should follow. You don't need to listen to a grumpy old man telling you to wear what they're comfortable with. You're the one that needs to be comfortable with your choices. And that applies for both over and under dressing.
  7. Not sure what the foreign thing has to do with anything. I believe we're from the same country and I will move you junk if there are no seats and you're a chair hog. This is one of those times when being big and intimidating has come to my advantage even though I'll move it with a smile. 😁
  8. No offense to the OP but in most cases I think it's pretty selfish and obnoxious to do this. Think about all the months of planning people do for their vacation and that's suddenly upended because you now expect them to hang out with you. These people aren't your family. And while they may love you they may also love to plan their time with you.
  9. I'm not quite understanding the OP just getting a room outside the Haven (downgrading). Isn't the cruise less than 60 days away? Wouldn't you not be able to just downgrade everyone? I would think you'd have to cancel the Haven room, loose your money and book a new reservation for the group outside of the Haven.
  10. It's not just cruise lines, it's the entire service industry. I've stayed in plenty of "full service " hotels in the past year that no longer do daily housekeeping "due to Covid-19 ". And amazingly, their rates are up by 50%+.
  11. I hope you have a fantastic trip of a lifetime
  12. That sounds like an amazing trip. One I'd love to do when I don't have to constantly work. However, and I mean this in the kindest way, the trip is so amazing, why do it with NCL? It would seem to me there are some smaller ships, including the sister brand Oceania, that would be better suited to something as amazing as this. Things like onboard lectures, etc.
  13. Short answer is no. Long answer is please let us know which sailing you're on as it will avoid me be cranky about kids. I don't want to ruin your hard earned vacation.😁
  14. I would have thought you were out of gas like everyone else until I got notice of a settlement in a class action suit against Ashley furniture. The charges were exactly the same. Ashley agreed to stop having a permanent sale price and refund consumers $30. I'm sure the lawyers made millions. Having said that, what would any individual gain if they forced NCL to stop doing this? Only the lawyers would win and the cost to cruise may actually go up to recoup the losses.
  15. But did those other guests ask for compensation? Let's be honest here, in this grand scheme of things, your complaint is pretty petty. You don't get compensation because you didn't eat a meal that had no additional cost. Complaints like this are the reason true issues aren't dealt with properly because it appears that people are just begging for free things. Which is litterally what you're doing. If you don't like the service, don't go book again. Your experience does not deserve compensation.
  16. We all respond to stressful amd emotional events differently and you need to do what makes you comfortable. While I would never cancel a cruise (especially out of NY with it's NYPD terrorism unit) because of fear of terrorism, the reality is no one can tell you how to feel. I think the question you have to ask your family is "will the fear and anxiety be something that prevents us from enjoying our trip". That will be your answer. If you can enjoy it, go. If not, don't. As someone who also lost many friends and acquaintances on 911, I feel that fear is the true goal of the terrorist and changing my plans without concrete evidence of danger simply means they win.
  17. Yes, loyalty is a one way program with EVERY travel program. It's simply marketing. Far too many people think it's about them being loyal to you. It's is and always will be a one way street and while some travel companies are more lenient, it is no different anywhere else.
  18. Wasn't it just 2 days ago that someone started a thread suggesting people buy NCL stock? And less than a week since NCL announced record revenue and bookings? Guess that massive wave of cancelations in that week proves that people are fleeing NCL. The hyperbole on these treads is a bit extreme. Maybe this isn't as relaxing a hobby for some?
  19. Not seeing where I mentioned a ship however the quarterly reports from Starbucks, Duncan Brands, etc beg to differ.
  20. Fewer and fewer people drink drip coffee anymore. People have gotten used to what NCL would call "specialty" coffee. On the ships, if you want an espresso, latte, Frappuccino, etc you have to go to Starbucks.
  21. Recently, a large number of my neighbors were posting on purpose community group board how excited they were that a restaurant with "real pizza" was opening up locally. That restaurant was Domino's. People have a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. Terrible to one may be amazing to another. If certainly doesn't make people who disagree with you complainers or stupid....... unless they think Domino's is authentically real pizza.😁
  22. Snowstorms wouldn't be a worry but unless the plane you're traveling on overnights at Montreal the night before, your concern is more about where the plane is coming from. September is the high point of hurricane activity. Even if you're the first flight of the day, if the inbound was canceled you'll face a major delay. And that delay will cascade and increase throughout the day. You'd likely spend more money getting to the next port than you would on a night in a hotel. It's fine to do every time until that one time it isn't and you're screwed. The risk isn't worth it on this one in my opinion.
  23. FYI, it's up 30% since it's 52 week low. Now isn't exactly the time to buy it.
