Question for anyone who has done an Athens extension with Viking...
Haworth replied to OnTheJourney's topic in Viking Ocean
We did not do the extension, have visited Athens many times. Based on your commnets about time spent in museums I think I would stick with a private tour where you have control over your own timings. Have a great trip. A picture from the museum in Delos of the lions and one from Haifa -
I agree with your observations about UK passengers, around 5% on average in our experience. We find the music in the Explorer lounge to be a bit more lively for a pre dinner drink. We love the nordic spa and enjoy the "bathing ritual" most days. Viking works for us

Would make a fabulous Christmas card
-
We put up our Christmas decorations yesterday, we try and buy a Christmas ornament to recall our travels, the wooden bauble bought in Tromso the afternoon before we left has a special memory. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all

Sold Out Optional Tours/Dining Reservations Prior to Sailing
Haworth replied to Pegct's topic in Viking Ocean
I received a call from Viking 1/2 hour ago, we were on a wait list for a specific excursion on our upcoming cruise, they have more space and we are booked on, excellent service. -
With you 100%, when we were together in May it was a positive experience and great to catch up with people again who had the shared experiencee

My mistake, typing whilst watching the World Cup, we are on the Star doing the Panama and Central America, maybe another time 🤞
-
Ditto, about 5 weeks until we get on the Sky
-
Relax, you will be fine. I hope you have a great cruise, we are on the Star in January, enjoy.

When we did the "lights" the ship was warm at night, no different to any other cruise, of course if the lights appear and you ant to go outside rules change. One thing I did Wass get my camera set up on a small tripod, exposures etc etc so that I was good to go if the lights showed

Thanks for these updates, we are on the Jan 17th sailing, lots of excellent information

A caution regarding booking excursions and specialty dining
Haworth replied to OBCtraveler's topic in Viking Ocean
Totally agree, our thoughts entirely, bookings open on Friday for our January trip we will go with the flow, besides it’s the Panama Canal and Central America cruise, we will eat most/all meals in the outside part of the World Cafe and grab a chefs table or two if we can and once we have seen the menus -
Viking confirmed to me today that Cozumel has not been cancelled for the 18th January cruise

New behavior patterns on Viking Ocean since COVID?
Haworth replied to CCWineLover's topic in Viking Ocean
All pre covid, apart from May this year and that was the Chairman’s cruise or those of us on Viking Sky and it had a very special dynamic and would not be a fair comparison -
New behavior patterns on Viking Ocean since COVID?
Haworth replied to CCWineLover's topic in Viking Ocean
We will be back on Viking in January and have been following both this and the “chair hogs” thread, I am yet to see any of the behaviours eluded to in these threads and that’s based on 50 plus nights experience. -
Change in Northern Lights Itinerary for March 8, 2023
Haworth replied to Iloveketo's topic in Viking Ocean
Suggest you research Viking Sky, March 2019, might clear up your questions -
A quick question, was it booked during Covid when the "change guarantee" was in place?

Viking Venus In Search of the Northern Lights February 29, 2024
Haworth replied to saabdued14's topic in Viking Ocean
John is correct we were on the same cruise and got a number of excellent sightings, bear in mind that a sighting might just be that and not the truly spectacular award winning picture that you see in travel magazines -
Northern Lights cruise, How much winter gear?
Haworth replied to crusinbanjo's topic in Viking Ocean
I bought an inexpensive tripod and worked out all the settings I needed before we left, got a few good pictures on a private tour, as I recall they didn’t make announcements in the theatre -
I have just checked the records, we did this cruise in 2017, embarked on 17th November, we had a heavy shower in Cyprus other than that the weather was glorious, lunches outside, shorts and polo shirts during the day, towards the end of the cruise the decorations appeared, it was one of our best ever trips

Tipping is a sensitive subject and a very different culture in Europe compared to the USA, please consider the customs of different countries when you are visiting, this is a very informative outline https://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/money/tipping-in-europe
