  1. Sausage rolls and pies are so subjective. We have a couple places here that we like. It takes a perfect blend of pastry and sausage. I think if you walked the mile from the chateau to that shop expecting delicious it would be a let down.
  2. I think we stumbled across that place when we were on our road trip. Of course we had a car and it was grabbed a snack and refueled for the next leg of our drive. I recall they were quite expensive and rather ordinary. Of course I assume you are talking about Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies?
  3. Probably the most convenient hotel for cruising out of Vancouver is the Pan Pacific, literally right next door to the cruise terminal. There is of course I price to be paid for this convenience, We haven't stayed there in years but it is not inexpensive.
  4. I think you will find that those paying for their cruises in Canadian dollars are Canadians in Canada.
  5. Thank you, unfortunately our next cruise isn't until 2025 and it is Westerdam. Maybe some day.
  6. The menu looks very good, there are several dishes I would definitely like to try. I would maybe even pay the tariff for it. I'm under the impression this is a pop up that happens in Tamarind from time to time. That seems a little restricted. Do any ships other than the Pinnacle class even have Tamarind?
  7. For me it's mostly seeing interesting places. On some very rare occasions I have actually been there. Every once in a while there is a softball lobbed in that is on or close to my island.
  8. That's okay Mic, I'm so often out matched on this game but it is fun.
  9. I'm afraid tonight's menu isn't really exciting for me. I will make the standard choices. Caesar salad or maybe the shrimp New York steak and fries (add the Brussels sprouts from the pork chop) The peach and berry crisp. I would have to look at the wine list to pair with the steak. A nice port to finish
  10. I think you will find the exchange rate will fluctuate just like in the real world. That being said apparently HAL does use a favourable exchange.
  11. I'm not sure why this 4 year old thread has been resurrected. After reading the whole thing, a few observations. Some people feel they are so special they will mess with ship's equipment because they want to. How hard is it to ask? I have a feeling the dividers in the forward Neptune suites are more of a "Dodger" for the wind (keeping in mind the ship travelling at 18 to 20 knots makes it's own wind. I'm not sure why I'm commenting on this dead thread except to say, if you want the partition opened ask your steward. They'll get it done and make sure it's latched so it doesn't start slamming back and forth at sea. Ship's equipment is not DIY. Are you going to fix the sloppy chair in the MDR?
  12. I think Cunard's revised dress code has more to do with the changing norms of society in general. On cruise ships in general with no access to an iron or steamer to make that expensive suit you packed in your grip presentable, you're just going to look like a rumpled fraud. I haven't worn my tux in 10 years and don't know if I ever will again. I would suggest the slackened dress code has nothing to do with Australia or any other region, it reflects society today. I also think the dress code (or lack thereof) has little to do with the redeployment of the QE, it more represents the perceived future sales for the ship in Australia.
  13. Do you really know anything? Shore power is so the ship can be alongside in a port and not run their generators. Perhaps in future with hybrid technology they could also charge their batteries with shore power. Of course this would only be effective if the shore power is clean energy like hydro-electric power.
  14. I agree, everyone seems to think that because they watched Downton Abbey that's the way posh dining should be. I'm afraid very few people know the rules for an actual formal dinner. Even on Cunard I doubt you will find many in white tie and tails. I think they should focus more on fresh ingredients exceptionally prepared and plated. Service should be attentive, not theatrical. For me I want my meal served in a timely fashion, hot and well presented.
  15. I think it may be under beverage packages. It's definitely available on the website. It is very inexpensive and comes by the gallon.
  16. Keep in mind your provincial MSP doesn't count outside of BC even in Canada. Get the appropriate trip insurance. If you can afford the cruise, make a point of affording the insurance.
  17. I'm afraid I really don't get the whole "status" thing. I believe those who have been loyal customers deserve to have the perks that loyalty gives them. Free laundry is clearly an excellent perk, as are the discounts offered. Does this repeat business give the holder some mystical power? Not so much. For those that have reached these lofty points, good on you. You have had the free time and disposable income to cruise often. I certainly appreciate the good tips that CC members share, those who are most helpful seem to be those who do not feel the need to mention their "status"
  18. Thanks for that explanation @RuthC, I couldn't understand how we ended up with so many points. It seemed like we got way more points than we should have.
  19. So many of the responses on this thread show how objective everyone's taste in "Entertainment" is. One person's idea of a production show is another's dance recital. Apparently all baby boomers are rock & rollers. News flash we're not, some of us have varied tastes in music, some are rockers , some like country, others classical. Everyone has there own tastes, hopefully HAL will find a solution that appeals to a wide array of likes for their guests. It just feels like there is a slight lull right now while HAL tries to come up with a plan. Hopefully it's a good one and it doesn't take years to pull their head out.
  20. I'm not sure it's a really touristy thing to do, to be concerned that their cruise may be cancelled in an active war zone. The last thing they need is more "visitors".
  21. It looks like a very cleverly painted Quonset hut. Are we in the Arctic?
  22. While the ship water may be fine and some have had no problem with it. I would just get the distilled water. It's way cheaper than any part of your CPAP you may have to replace. Such as your heated breathing hose that may collect some of the trace minerals etc. that may be vaporizer and collect in the hose. Distilled water is cheap, and easy to get on board.
  23. That's getting really close to $300.00 Canadian. 😉
