  1. You may be right. Because HAL has had such a loyal following for so many years there are probably more people on here that know what things are expected of a HAL cruise compared to those who are actually now working for them. The trouble is the people on here are not in position to change things one way or another. No mustard just ketchup!😀
  2. Your may be given them too much credit! Ordering inventory for food/drink service at any level can be a tough calculation to say the least and even more so when a high percentage of your customers are changing sometimes weekly!
  3. Besides offers that were being made to casino players I believe other offers were made to past HAL pax who did a lot of non casino spending on previous cruises, pre HIA. Now that HIA has pretty much become a fixture with HAL they are seeing some of that spending money upfront from the pax and there is less need now to lure in that past spending customer with the offers.
  4. The cruise lines are not buying from the same suppliers in every foreign port and can't guarantee that those suppliers they do buy from will have everything they need when they need it and at a reasonable price. It's not like they can just send a few crew members out to the local Wally World in(name the port)to pick up anything they are out of to satisfy what may be only a few pax.
  5. Were they Farley Fries? 🤣 https://youtu.be/T
  6. This woman has signed up to cruise solo on a cruise ship for the next three years! https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/cruise-ship-three-years-mv-gemini-passenger-perspective/index.html
  7. Another historic/cultural place to visit near the cruise port in Halifax besides the Maritime and Immigration museums is the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia(closed Mondays)which is around one half mile away and has an ongoing exhibit on Maud Lewis the world famous NS artist that the 2017 movie Maudie was based on which even includes her original painted house. https://agns.ca/exhibition/maud-lewis-gallery/
  8. Remind me not to get behind you in the line at the Deli/Fish dept in a supermarket.😀
  9. My father-in-law was in the USN in WW2 on board the destroyer USS Baltimore. Here are some photos from the Baltimore's WW2 book of the ceremony when the ship and the young sailors crossed the line late in 1943 while heading to the South Pacific:
  10. Considering that most things in $1 stores are not one dollar anymore I think it's a great investment.
  11. The HAL Rotterdam is arriving now in Rotterdam for the 150th Anniversary Celebration! https://youtu.be/nFozEhY TEMo
  12. Here are a couple for you, the 2012/2013 copy and the 2020/2021 copy from cruising's lost year still in its original plastic wrap!
  13. Yes this is the live stream cam of where the Rotterdam is scheduled to dock before 7am. Marine Traffic is showing the ship moving at 10kn and it will be starting its navigation into the harbor in the next 2 hours. Here is a site with all the cams available to watch its journey. You can also scroll down to the official port arrivals and departures listing and 6:15am CET (12:15am EST) is currently listed for the ship. https://www.portofrotterdam.com/en/experience-online/webcams#
  14. Promotions like this usually show up on the website many hours before the phone lines even open. You can either book online then or use the online site to be prepared for the phone call later. I agree with Mary229 as the promotions are usually extended at least one more day if not longer.
  15. Here is a link to the livestream of the Rotterdam, Netherlands Cruise Terminal where the HAL Rotterdam will be a arriving in just a few hours completing it's 150 HAL Anniversary Cruise. Marine Traffic has the ship with an eta around 5am CET which will be 11pm EDT/8pm PDT. https://youtu. be/nFozEhYTEMo
  16. The OP and others including you and myself have submitted requests to have this thread pinned but whether it is or not it still has an ongoing value to all HAL solo cruisers...Rob
  17. These cruisers actually made a video of their hand washing experiences with the Meritech automated hand washing machines back in 2018 on the Veendam. I first remember them back in 2011 and 2012 on the Veendam on cruises to Bermuda. The other thing that was new at the time were those tables with built in computer game monitors in the Mix that never worked well if at all. https://youtu.be/Z2ooqg56yao
  18. I too remember these being on HAL ships like the Maasdam and Veendam over a dozen years ago and at the time seeing HAL as being ahead of the curve compared to other lines on addressing the Norovirus issue which was a possible health concern on all ships then and still is.
  19. Hi Moriah. I you want please join our roll call for this cruise as we have over two dozen people that are on this cruise including some from the Montreal area who are doing the back to back with the cruise before this...Rob https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2887739-zaandam-may-6-13-2023-boston-to-montreal/
  20. A visit to New Caledonia would be worth it just to see their colorful Pigeons and Doves compared to the standard grey Rock Pigeons so prevalent in cities around the world.
  21. Here is another thread started in here last week with more details about it. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2929137-caribbean-cruise-from-boston/
