  1. At least mini wheats weren’t in his arsenal. Those things are big and have sharp edges.
  2. The point is no, no one else is seriously concerned of cruise ships being a target. If your son has this fear it’s not justified. Something else is behind this and there are lots of possibilities. Since you didn’t give people information then theories will be made. I never said your son didn’t want to go but asked if it could be one of the several options as to why he has this unfounded fear of cruise ships specifically. He should however talk to someone about his fear and figure out the root of it.
  3. On my last cruise there was one evening I was trying to fit a quiet spot and couldn’t. Usually there’s always a spot you can find that isn’t people focused but I wasn’t feeling well and needed actual quiet. So I ended up back in my cabin that evening for a while. Celebrity is a good choice. That last cruise was with my mom who is very social but that’s why she went to social areas.
  4. The assumption that your son isn’t an experienced traveller is probably the kindest. The other assumptions could be that he actually doesn’t really want to go on this trip or that he is lacking critical thinking skills. If he genuinely thinks his cruise vacation is riskier than his life traveling and playing big music venues then he may benefit from talking with a professional about his fears. If he’s using it as an excuse to not go on vacation with you then he would also benefit from talking to a professional about it as well.
  5. Does natural light make a difference to you? You may not sit on the balcony but I know on so many sea days I would thoroughly enjoy taking a nap with sun streaming in.
  6. I avoid bitting range of moose at all costs 😂
  7. Deer aren’t bad it’s the moose that are dangerous.
  8. If you can book your flights for cheaper and have better control then do it on your own. It’s not a tough transfer from the Civi to the airport. I wouldn’t book a flight before 1:00 at the earliest personally. 1hr+ transfer time, 3hrs before flight due to it being international, what time your going to be able to get off the ship considering potential delays etc. I add a buffer of 1hr for delays at port. if your planning on self assist disembarking then that gives you some flexibility but not everyone is capable of that based on the amount of luggage they have and their physical ability.
  9. I think it all depends on what you’re booking. If it’s a popular cruise then book solo since they won’t drop the supplement. If you’re looking at something more shoulder season or an older ship that won’t charge a supplement then book a regular cabin. You can always reprice. It’s nice to have the option in my opinion.
  10. Multiple people in my life are in national security (Canada) and my cruise in 2 weeks is not even a concern. There’s a higher chance of a volcano eruption on my 1.5 hour layover in Iceland, the risk of which it happening in that small span of time and impacting is incredible small. A ship that moves on the ocean is not a likely target. Now this depends on your cruise location. Some areas there would be a little more reason to be concerned. One mitigating factor if there is an issue I would recommend your son get comprehensive travel insurance that covers trip interruption and cancel for any reason. If let’s say you can’t return home because something happened somewhere you’ll at least have your costs covered including hotel etc.
  11. That would be disappointing. Saudi is on my list of places to go. I have a few friends that use to live there and have heard so much about it. Considering how Saudi is really pushing to make a major international travel destination I’d be curious to why the port is cancelled for sure.
  12. Also depends where you are going. Some countries are concerned more than others. If you can either bring paper work of sole custody or have the other parent sign off on a notarized form/letter. Passport is not enough, the child could have obtained the passport earlier than current concerns.
  13. I will find out in 16 days if I have to take the photo again. I always take my cruise photos in the same spot with a neutral light grey background, straight on headshot, good lighting, no expression. I do my check in on the app and take the photo during check in and found it quick and easy.
  14. One way for CC to grow is using influencers. Cruise influencers are a major source of information to newer cruisers who watch YouTube videos, read blogposts, follow social media of these influencers.
  15. I’m new blood on CC and new to cruising. I’m also far younger than most people on CC which can sometimes be hard. There are generational differences, plenty of trolls, and more drama than necessary. My upcoming cruise has a fairly active roll call and planning all those different events, I can’t wait.
  16. The expression they want is more like complete boredom. You just relax all the muscles in your face and think of the most boring thing on earth.
  17. Leaving Canada in 16 days and going from Rome to NYC could see from -20 to 20 Celsius so I get your struggles. I’m bringing my down sweater which packs up really small, rain coat, light pair of gloves and a shawl that I can wear as a scarf which should keep me warm enough when running to and from the airport yet take little space while I travel or can be used in warmer climates.
  18. We are looking at a similar potential issue but in no way if someone gets pregnant is it Royals fault. Everyone on our trip is well aware there is a 10 month period in which they would be too pregnant or have too young of a child to safely travel on a cruise. Ok my cousins didn’t understand it clearly but we made sure it was clear to them since 2 of them are trying to get pregnant and we have an upcoming big family trip. We have the choice of change to a different cruise or they can claim on travel insurance or forfeit the deposit for one room or find someone else who wants to go in their place. Also keep in mind in some cultures like in the US moms are expected back to work when the baby is 3 months. The concept that mom is attached to the baby isn’t the same everywhere.
  19. I have a connecting flight in 16 days through Iceland. I’ve been watching this carefully for days. I’m glad I have travel insurance that will cover me if I need to book a new flight. More importantly I’m glad people in Iceland are safe and hope they continue to be so.
  20. I’m starting to eat more actual food again but my energy is still low from last week. The good news is my work days are much better and I’m playing catch up. I lost 2lb this week. I might hit 40lb lost before my cruise which is really impressive. Thank you ladies for all being here during this journey. The weekly weigh ins have made such a difference. When my weight goes up one week I don’t let it stress me because of the great vibe this community has. If I only lost another 45lb I’d still be really happy but if it’s another 65lb I’d also be really happy. I will be happy in that healthy range. So with that said I’m close to being half way there and it’s been less than 5 months.
  21. One tip I will give especially with limited wifi on the cruise is download stuff ahead of time. Tell your kids to download a bunch of playlists onto their phone if they use Spotify and same goes for tv and movie from Netflix, prime, Apple TV etc. The free internet won’t be strong enough to do all those things anyways and it’s a waste of minutes. I just wait till the ship is in port to go on social media and post things. Also instead of emailing or texting pictures etc to each other while on the cruise you can “airdrop” or use other Bluetooth ways to share if your devices are compatible. I save my wifi minutes for sea days if I need to check something like emails or look something up online.
  22. I’m not one to sit in my room all day but I enjoy seeing the water when I’m having a drink at the martini bar or enjoying dinner etc. I wouldn’t call Celebrity “old people line” but it’s more of a mellow/adult vibe.
  23. I use to race walk half marathons with a man who was in his late 70s, I was in my early 20s and he was always faster than me. So true there are such a big range of fitness abilities especially in 70s and 80s. My grandmother still insists on taking a “brisk” walk for 30 minutes a day and she’s 97. I’ll be cruising on RCI next year but I don’t think it will be the brand for me. I don’t care for the inward facing mega ships full of attractions. Celebrity is really nice and you can transfer your status over which is a nice perk if you’ve been cruising RCI for a long time.
  24. Actually now that I think of it my time around the military has affected how I pack. My “dopp” kit aka toiletry bag is always packed and ready. All my travel gear is organized in bins in shelves. Throw cleans clothing in a bag and away I go. I also roll my clothes like the military. When I travel on business I even use pelican case as my luggage. The military guys I knew didn’t usually pack ahead of time because they didn’t know when or where they were going. Rapid response type teams your lucky if you have 5 hours to go home, get your house ready (clean out the fridge unplug stuff etc), pack all your gear, say goodbye, arrange for someone to take care of your dog etc. Organized gear room was the secret to not forgetting anything. My packing for a business trip is usually mostly done the night before I leave. Go home from work early to do laundry. Once out of the dryer I lay all the pieces I think I want in the bed. Once I know I have what I need but not too much I pack it in my suitcase.
  25. My bf travels 55% of the year and his is wallet, passport, phones (x2), and laptop. He’s taken business trips with just that, not even a sleeve for his laptop. I don’t know how he does it especially when his day trip turns into 2 nights. im now packing with the 5-4-3-2-1 method and it’s so much easier with that as a base to my list.
