  1. Free shuttle service from Port Everglades to FLL were discontinued approximately four years ago. A few rental car companies have locations right outside the perimeter of Port Everglades. I’m not absolutely sure but I believe Alamo has the closest location on Eller Drive. I know that Sixt provides service from Port Everglades to there location on US 1 just north of Hollywood Fort Lauderdale International Airport. A short cab ride from Port Everglades to FLL is approximately twenty dollars plus tip and only takes fifteen minutes.
  2. A cab will run you around seventy five dollars plus tip. Uber or Lyft will be cheaper. I’m unaware of any shuttle service between the two ports.Last suggestion would be Larry’s Limos. More expensive but they get the job done. Highly recommended by many Cruise Critic posters including myself who have used them on a few occasions.
  3. Ten years ago the Fort Lauderdale Embassy Suites was a nice place. Pricing was reasonable and the building was in great condition. It now needs a through cleanup and some updating. The rooms are tired and need to be refreshed.
  4. Most rental car companies canceled free shuttle service to the Miami International Airport Rental Car Center at the beginning of the Covid pandemic. A cab should run you thirty dollars plus tip. I’m unsure if Avis, Hertz or Budget provide free shuttle service from their downtown Miami locations. Contact them directly. If you rent from one of the downtown Miami locations be advised that they are relatively small and very busy on cruise turnaround days.
  5. I have a friend that works with me part time at a home improvement store. On nights when we work together I drive him home. It’s only fifteen minutes out of my way. When we work different shifts he calls Uber. The short ten minute plus ride costs him between fifteen and eighteen dollars plus tip. A few weeks ago he called Uber on a Saturday night at 10:00PM. They told him no vehicles were available but if one became available the price that night would be sixty dollars plus. Most likely a Uber at 8:30PM from MCO to Cocoa Beach will involve surge pricing. It would be cheaper to stay over at an Orlando area hotel and Uber over to Port Canaveral in the morning.
  6. Contact Larry’s Limos for excellent service in the South Florida area. Clean vehicles, knowledgeable drivers and reasonable rates.
  7. I have read a few posts recently regarding Bermuda cruises leaving from Manhattan on an NCL ship. Apparently many passengers were arriving at the pier and hadn’t completed the necessary Bermuda Covid Authorization Forms. Because the paperwork wasn’t completed the ship which was scheduled to leave at 4:00PM was held up until 10:00PM. Some passengers weren’t allowed onboard and missed the sailing. They didn’t give a number on how many actually missed this voyage.
  8. See if Carnival will provide you with a free ship to ship transfer. Otherwise grab a cab at the terminal and explain to the driver that you are only going to the next terminal for your next sailing. Provide the driver with a nice tip and you shouldn’t have a problem.
  9. Port Everglades to Fort Lauderdale Beach is too far of a walk. It has to be at least a three mile walk. You can easily cab, Uber or Lyft over for the short ride . Have a nice lunch or at least a few drinks at one of the places along A1A. Then grab a cab for the ride back to Port Everglades.
  10. Mears Transportation, Cortrans and Cruise Control Transportation are three highly recommended shuttle services. They charge per person, are reliable and are reasonable. They are recommended by many Cruise Critic posters.
  11. On a Royal Caribbean cruise pre Covid we did an excursion to a winery in Italy. We purchased approximately six bottles at the winery and returned to the ship. At the security checkpoint we were waved thru and allowed to bring the wine back to our cabin. For some reason that day they were more concerned about the small bottles of olive oil that we also purchased.
  12. January 2022 my famiily of three cruised on Holland America’s New Statendam from Port Everglades. My wife told me that we could bring on three bottles of wine so we purchased three at the local Publix Supermarket. As usual she was wrong and we were flagged by security at the terminal. We were advised to check with the Liquor Police Officer at the desk. He explained we could leave the wine with him and he would consume it with his friends onboard or we could pay twenty dollars plus the eighteen percent gratuity to carry it on. My wife signed the voucher and we were advised that the charges would go on our onboard account. We were pleasantly surprised that the sixty plus dollar charge never showed up on our account. The Liquor Police Officer was a member of the bar staff who I never saw during our ten day sailing.
  13. I have been cruising with Royal Caribbean since May 1983 when I got hooked on the Song Of America’s twenty fourth sailing from Miami to the Eastern Caribbean. Over the years I have spoken to many Bar Service Managers who explained to me that the ten drink voucher cards show up when bar sales are low. They explained that it was a corporate decision made by someone sitting behind a desk in their Miami headquarters. Recently before the Covid Pandemic on the Allure Of The Seas a supervisor explained that a member of the Finance Department on the ship has the authority to make the decision to sell the cards. Very rarely are bar sales that low that the cards are necessary.
  14. The safest place to park your vehicle is at the Port Of Miami. The parking is reasonable, safe and secure. In almost every case you will return to a vehicle in the same condition that you left it. Too many posts over the years of vehicles being damaged at parking lots in the downtown Miami area. In one case cruise passengers returned from there voyage to find a homeless male sleeping in there vehicle. Many instances of shoddy shuttle service too. Outside lots in Port Everglades, Port Canaveral and Tampa are reasonable, safe and secure. Not so for Miami.
  15. The Intercontinental Hotel is a wonderful hotel just minutes away from the Port Of Miami. Plenty of things to do in the days before your cruise. No way would I spent two nights at the Miami Airport Hotel.
  16. A cab from MIA to Port Everglades should run you around seventy five dollars plus tip for the forty five minute one way fare. Uber or Lyft should be around sixty dollars without surge pricing. There’s always plenty of cabs available at both locations.
  17. Harmony will most likely dock at Terminal 1 which is Royal Caribbean’s primary pier. Only one ship can dock at Terminal 1 so the Oasis Of The Seas will dock across the channel on the north side.
  18. What shuttle service charges sixty one dollars for a trip from Port Canaveral to the Port Of Miami?
  19. Cortrans Cruise Control and Mears are well known transportation companies that service MCO and Port Canaveral. Contact them for a price quote. They are recommended by many Cruise Critic posters.
  20. I have done the ride from from Port Canaveral to my condo in Hallandale Beach which is approximately twenty five miles north of the Port Of Miami a few times. The rental car locations at Cape Canaveral are relatively small and very busy on cruise turnaround days. Try to get there early as possible and make sure you have a reservation. On many days they are short on rental vehicles and wait for customers arriving from MCO to drop off vehicles before they head over to Port Canaveral to check in for there cruise.
  21. There are no car rental facilities directly at the Port Of Miami. A few companies have downtown Miami locations that are very close to the Port Of Miami. They include Avis, Hertz and Budget. Not sure if they provide shuttle service to the Port Of Miami but a Uber or cab shouldn’t be very expensive. If you rent from Alamo, Dollar, Thrifty, Enterprise, or National you can return the vehicle to the Miami International Airport Rental Car Center which is located directly across from Miami International Airport. Shuttle service from there was discontinued by most major rental car companies at the beginning of the Covid pandemic. A cab from there to the Port Of Miami should run you around thirty dollars plus tip.As for Port Canaveral most rental car facilities are located in Cape Canaveral which is ten minutes away from Port Canaveral. Last but not least, the ride from Port Canaveral to the Port Of Miami is approximately two hundred fifty miles and will take you approximately four hours on Interstate 95. Try to be the first one off of the ship to give yourself extra time. One brush fire or major accident and you will miss your sailing from the Port Of Miami.
  22. Your right about that! Great ice cream and decent hot dogs and hamburgers!
  23. The hotel is modern looking and there are three other newer hotels just a few blocks north of the Hotel Dello. There is a construction boom going on in the area with new condos and new rental apartments in the immediate area. The hotel to Port Everglades is a short ten minute Uber or cab ride. I would have no problem staying there for a night or two prior to a cruise.
  24. They held up the ship for one passenger! You must be a VIP. Please tell us your story.
  25. The Hotel Dello is located on Federal Highway in Dania Beach, just south of FLL. It’s relatively new and was originally called the Hotel Morrison when it opened in approximately 2016. The area is mostly residential and there really isn’t much to do if you don’t have a vehicle. There are two local places to eat just a short walk south on Federal Highway. The first one is Grampas Restaurant which was just recently renovated. It has great breakfasts and is always quite busy. The restaurant was featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Dive In’s and Dives. The second place one block further down is Jaxsons Restaurant. It’s a burger joint that specializes in ice cream. Another busy place that opened in 1957. There ice cream sundaes are out of this world. If you have a vehicle I can tell you all about the area. I have a vacation condo a few miles south in Hallandale Beach.
