If the ship gives you paxlovid, be prepared to pay OOP for it and get reimbursed by your travel insurance. I believe the days of a fcc fir being quarantined with Covid are over, it’s treated like other illnesses onboard.

Much better to carry them on if you don’t want yo have to wait in line to get your checked luggage.

We lost the Lyndhurst diner but the two we frequent most are still open. My poor young adult kids are the ones suffering with nowhere to get food after 3 am except a parkway rest stop. Used to love watching the sun rise over my disco fries after a night in the city.

If you don’t have the FAS package which allows unlimited bottles of wine brought on for free, there will be a table in the cruise terminal where you will be instructed by security to go and pay $15 per bottle (goes on your account I believe). ETA if it’s in your checked luggage security will flag it and you will be called down to the naughty room to get your bag and be charged for corkage.

Our diners are the best, in spite of the fact that due to Covid, they’re no longer 24/7 😭

First Timers Sea Sickness Tablet Advice
mjkacmom replied to Crestawave's topic in Ask a Cruise Question
I always bring Bonine, anything else makes me sleepy. I get bad motion sickness, no fishing boats for me, or merry go rounds for that matter. So far so good, I’ve been fine on cruises but have yet to hit weather. -
Growing up my parents had tons of cocktail and dinner parties, we stayed out of sight. However they also hosted family celebrations and there was a ton of drinking, cocktail hour lasted around 3 hours, then wine with dinner, later cordials. Us kids would sneak the remnants of drinks. Might’ve been our Irish/Scottish heritage.

I can’t help with public transportation but I’d say LGA I’d the best option.

NCL VIVA Can i access spa amenities with spa treatment?
mjkacmom replied to luv2gonow's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
Spa access had never been included with treatments. I’ve never had a hard time buying passes after boarding. If day passes are even offered, it will be on port days. -
I have never paid for a notary in the US (I was actually one back in the day, my company paid for me to become one). I know some charge a small fee but the ones at banks are free (and I think at ups locations, plus most folks know someone). Make sure you get written permit make medical decisions.

That post is very recent, there are many posts on the page every day. I think you were looking at the sticky dates.

I guess we are unlucky, we had a stretch where we had at least one surgery per year. One year not only did I need an emergency appendectomy, but my 15 year old son needed one almost a year later (unfortunately he didn’t get seen in time, so it ruptured. Fortunately he was young and healthy, apparently the new protocol is high doses of IV antibiotics, morphine, frequent blood work and several days in the hospital on watch, it gets messy if they need to go in and operate). He also suffered a bad ankle break at 12 which needed emergency surgery. My daughter broke her wrist at track practice and needed to be put under to set it, another daughter ended up at a trauma center after a bad car accident. Everyone was in good health. The wrist breaker swallowed a quarter in kindergarten, had to be put under because it was blocking her airway. Good times.

Just a note, college dining halls seem to have eliminated trays too, I’m guessing for the same reasons, food waste, and the sanitation of trays. I haven’t seen a tray on a cruise ship in a long time.

Taking wine & food back to stateroom
mjkacmom replied to aprilfool01's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
Do not spend nyc sailaway on your balcony, we love our balcony but you really want to be up on an outside deck, both sides are stunning. -
Not true for cruises, there is verbiage in every cruise contract that ports can be skipped or changed, a ship can literally sail in circles if they have to and legally not owe anyone a dime, even if it’s a problem with the ship. Those in other countries have different laws.

I don’t think this will work, I’ve thought of trying it with our family of 7 in 2 cabins, but with cancellation penalties and risking not being able to move the others, plus I’ve never heard of anyone trying this being successful. NCL cabins all have separate reservations.

feedback requested Carnival NYC gurus

Right now the cheapest Uber to Times Square is $86 without tip, it really depends the day anc time. -
If I was spending a lot of money on a cabin on an old ship to sail harder to reach ports during hurricane season I’d probably look into travel insurance that would give monetary compensation for missed ports.

I’d Uber to a hotel on the Hudson (weehawken, jersey city). Spend the evening on the waterfront or take the PATH into Manhattan, and take a ferry the next day to Manhattan, there is a walkway to the cruise terminal. -

I think many young people just don’t know what they don’t know. Four of my 20somethings are still on our health insurance, I’m guessing they have no idea is doesn’t work outside of the US. I know I had no idea at that age. Many this age can be pretty broke, maybe able to get funds together for a cheap trip, but if told they don’t need a passport, won’t spend $130 for something most likely not needed, probably don’t know how much harder it makes getting back home if you miss the ship for any reason. Not all young adults have parents who know this information, especially if they don’t travel. The fact that the mom is fundraising for her passport and plane ticket instead of finding a credit card to pay the bills and giving them guidance about getting back home says a lot. -
I buy battery operated tea lights, use them at home during power outages.
