Pinnacle Grill or Rudi's Sel De Mer on Koningsdam
SJSULIBRARIAN replied to cabland's topic in Holland America Line
You have received opinions all over the map which is expected as we each have different values. I have sailed on Konigsdam twice since restart. My ranking for this ship is Rudy's, Canaletto, PG. When the Canaletto was first introduced on HAL, I did not like it at all, but I think overtime it has gotten a lot better. IMO the PG has gotten old and could use a totally revamped menu. I have not liked Rudy's as a pop up on ships but as a stand-alone on the K, it was great. -
Live from Nieuw Amsterdam 14-Day Alaska Explorer

From yours and other postings, I am envious of the blue-sky weather you had in May. Hope it will be as nice in August when I am on the Eurodam. Have cruised Alaska every summer month but August so we shall see. Thanks for all the information you provide. -
HAL and Nieuw Statendam thoughts from a HAL newb

Thank you for an excellent review. -
Is there a hotel near SEATAC that provides shuttle service to the airport? Rather than take a late afternoon flight home, I am thinking of staying overnight and going out early. Thanks.

Cabana Location Koningsdam question
SJSULIBRARIAN replied to BermudaBound2014's topic in Holland America Line
#18 is on the quieter side IMO as most people use the entrance/exit on the other side and is near to the little tables where I usually eat my lunch. Also closer to the restroom. -
Cabana Location Koningsdam question
SJSULIBRARIAN replied to BermudaBound2014's topic in Holland America Line
I have liked #18 on the Konigsdam. -
Back to post #1 Lisa's comment about HAL being at the point of Sinking or Cruising, I would agree. IMO until HAL reaches the point of making a profit, experiences on HAL ships will be mixed - good, bad, or ugly. One recent world Cruise blogger mentioned that over 500 of the passengers were sailing on future cruise credits from the aborted 2020 World Cruise. I think the Zuiderdam was sailing at around 1400 passengers, below capacity. It would seem impossible for that cruise to break even much less make a profit. As long as FCCs are being used and/or rates are low, how can profits be made?

Cabana Location Koningsdam question
SJSULIBRARIAN replied to BermudaBound2014's topic in Holland America Line
Both times I was on Konigsdam #22 was not rented so it was used for storage. I assume if it is rnted, they would move the stuff out. -

Do you know if HAL will be giving out the 150th Anniversary titles on any cruise during this year? -

How would you rate the Special Restaurants on Koningsdam
SJSULIBRARIAN replied to mcrcruiser's topic in Holland America Line
On the Konigsdam, my ranking of restaurants is Sel de Mer (outstanding in food and service), Tamarind (excellent in food and service), Canaletto (excellent in food and service), and Pinnacle Grill (failing in both food and service). I travel solo and dine when the restaurants first open and for those reasons I think service is better for me. Except in the PG which for some reason cannot seem to get its act together. I have been on this ship twice and generally eat all dinners in specialty restaurants. -
We had a power outage on the Ryndam back in 2006. We had just returned to our cabin when it occurred. I always pack a flashlight even back then, so we were able to navigate around the cabin and get ready for bed. I think it may have lasted an hour or so. Only one experienced on 39 HAL cruises.

Seeing the Brugges waffle brought back great memories of DH and I enjoying coffee and waffles there. Thanks for posting that photo and all you have written for us. -

You and your Tuxedo Junction mates look great in the Casino. (Casino Royale?) -
Thanks for the advice. I am with a group and the TA can't get any more rooms yet. I am hopeful but if no cabin by final payment, I'll probably cancel. I have a guarantee for the ultimate Alaska. I just wasn't quick enough to book these two cruises.

Yes, that Princess Eclipse cruise is sold out. I am waitlisted for it, but I seriously doubt the WL will clear.

Wow. I have never seen a note like that on a ship. What are people thinking? I thought the "entitlement group" were Gen X or Gen Z. -
