  1. Just a quick update — uncomfortable itching returned. Still looking for a solution.
  2. Just back from the salon.. She used a Wella toner with a 6% peroxide for 30 minutes to cover almost all the gray, and it blended really well with my current blond. No low-lights. Just a little itching which may be from the last time. Anyway, I’ll know in a day or two if it worked.
  3. -Will let you know. Just found this from Wella, whose logo is on the capes they use at the salon. https://education.wella.com/pluginfile.php/302903/mod_resource/content/1/Hair Color Facts Leaflet.pdf#:~:text=We have created a new primary molecule%2C ME%2B%2C and formulated, creating rich colors that shine.
  4. Thanks. I have an appointment tomorrow, too. I found the most often mentioned problem ingredients ( I saw the PPD referenced.) and I’ll ask to see the box or whatever they store the dyes in and hopefully she can change brands or think of a solution.
  5. I can’t be the only lady “ of a certain age” who has developed a sensitivity to hair dye. After my last two appointments, my scalp started to itch continuously and has made me miserable. Lots of information on the internet about the dye ingredients, but no solutions. Any stylists out there who can tell me if there is a way to color the gray with just foils or something that doesn’t lay on my scalp? I usually get low lights and highlights, and sometimes only the roots need done, but I always have dye that needs to be “working” for about a half hour. Any suggestions are appreciated.
  6. We sailed with Avalon. We were in Winnigen early in the morning and then sailed for Koblenz during lunch. It was such a nice day that we opted out of the included excursions and decided to walk through town on our own. 8:30am Optional Excursion: Mendig's Magma & Monks Trip (optional) Wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Stairs to be climbed in the caverns and at the monastery. Remember to bring water and your camera. 9:00am Adventure Host activity: Biking with your Adventure Host
  7. Just read the whole thread and thought I might throw in a couple ideas for those of you who will have a car and are planning to tour the Kenai Peninsula prior to your cruise. Next May will be my 22nd cruise to Alaska, and I am just as excited as the first time. Check Costco Travel for rental cars. No credit card needed to reserve and includes a second driver for free. They don’t usually open reservations until January or so, but you can stay at the Kenai Princess Lodge in Cooper Landing even if you aren’t doing the land tour with them. They have availability on the days that cruise tours do not stay there. https://www.princesslodges.com/princess-alaska-lodges/kenai-lodge/?utm_source=gbp&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=local-pack&utm_term=princess-kenai if you have time, stop at the Mt. Alyeska Lodge on the way from Anchorage to Seward in Girdwood. The tram is great, and you can spend the day hiking one of the trails behind the lodge. There are also several restaurants in the lodge and at the top of the tram. https://www.alyeskaresort.com/alyeska-aerial-tram/ If you are lucky enough to be in Girdwood at breakfast, for sure stop at the Bake Shop for those cinnamon buns. https://www.thebakeshop.com The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is right down the road. https://alaskawildlife.org If you are sailing out of Whittier, check out the 26 Glacier Cruise. Absolutely no sea sickness and you see a lot of otters, sea lions, and kittiwakes along with the 26 glaciers. It’s a beautiful trip. https://phillipscruises.com if you have some extra time, Homer seems to always have better weather than Seward, and their kayak trips are really fun. https://homerkayaking.com Someone asked about seasickness and the Kenai Fjords tour. Just an FYI, if they tell you at check-in that they are offering a refund if you don’t want to go out that day, take the refund. 😊 Go out with the Exit Glacier Guides instead. https://www.exitglacierguides.com I sailed with Princess, Holland America and Celebrity. They were all wonderful. You’re going to have a great time.
  8. Is it true that one cannot book an Uber Black days in advance from the airport — that you have to wait until you are on the ground to use the app?
  9. My elderly sister and her friend are trying to schedule an Uber Black that will pick them up at the curb rather than the remote lot at LAX. She’s having a hard time scheduling in advance, as the app will not let her put in her flight number and time. Can anyone suggest a reliable limo service to take them from LAX to Santa Monica for pre cruise hotel? Thanks.
  10. Thank you for your research. We saw this on a little side street and thought it might be some kind of memorial, but it seemed so out of place there. It’s very pretty.
  11. We stopped at a small town, Winningen, on our Moselle cruise and saw this on a walk through town early in the morning. Anyone know what it is?
  12. Just got off the Imagery ll, Active and Discovery on the Mosel. I’m adding the daily newsletters if anyone is interested.
  13. It’s a long story, but basically there are only two non stop flights out of Harrisburg to Newark. 6AM and 3PM. The late flight has been canceled at least four times in the past two weeks, including today, hours before takeoff. I tried to change the late flight on the app, but United wanted $4,141 pp. You read that right.😳 I wrote to United and didn’t receive a response, but this morning I was able to change to the earlier flight at no cost. Thank you United ! (Curiously, there was additional cost if I changed to economy or economy plus.) My hope is that the early flight gives us a better cushion, and if that should get canceled, I can get an Uber to Newark to catch the flight to Brussels for about $250. We aren’t checking bags. Weather, mechanical problems, and flight crew assignments are out of my control, but I’m trying to lessen the chance that we would lose our deeply discounted business class seats if we had to be re-routed at the last minute. I’m fine with the 11 hours at Newark if I can stay in the lounge there. I have a fully loaded iPad and kindle.
  14. We are flying United first class from Harrisburg to Newark, then United Polaris Business to Brussels next month. We have an 11 hour layover in Newark. Are we allowed in the United Lounge? Can we stay all day? I don’t have have any special status with United, but I have two lounge passes that I received when I got their credit card. Thanks.
  15. My daughter just received her (expedited) renewed passport exactly five weeks since she mailed it. 😊
  16. I stayed solo at the Embassy Suites a couple years ago and walked all the way to the Galleria Mall one morning. As I recall, there were sidewalks the whole way. In January the temps were just fine for the long walk, and I felt very safe walking alone.
  17. I called HAL yesterday and had AI added to my Alaska cruise very quickly.
  18. You can order the real “gobs” from Johnstown. Way better than jello. https://www.gobs.shop/gobs
  19. I’ve done both several times. Go with the Gold Star if your budget allows. Nicer seats, nice meal included, they bring drinks to you, and you aren’t sharing the upper level view with folks going up and down stairs every 20 minutes. I just consider the extra cost as a normal Alaskan excursion.
  20. If the first leg of your flight is canceled, and you are given a refund, but a flight with a different carrier is now more expensive for the same class of service, does travel insurance cover the difference in price?
  21. I spent just under $20k for a 10 day Galapagos trip and tour on the Flora in January. One time splurge for sure, but worth every penny.
  22. If you just wanted medical coverage, you could use GeoBlue. I did a dummy booking for two children for a week and the cost was $23. You must be age 18 or older to purchase GeoBlue insurance products. Adults are permitted to purchase GeoBlue products on behalf of individuals younger than 18. By clicking ‘OK’ below, you acknowledge that you are an adult age 18 or older, purchasing on behalf of an indivudual younger than 18. No one under the age of 6 can be enrolled by themselves.
  23. It seems that you would be charged a single supplement. Cancel for Any Reason Waiver - Provided by Holland America LineYou may cancel for any reason prior to the start of your scheduled travel (sea, land and/or air) arrangements made by Holland America Line and receive reimbursement equal to 90% of the eligible amounts paid to Holland America Line. Note: CPP Platinum does not protect double-triple-quad occupancy rates should one or more members of your party cancel prior to departure.
