  1. At least from MDW you could go to ORD if you had to
  2. Since I don’t know where you are cruising I can’t know if our situation is similar to yours. We have chosen to go with Viking Air for our Hong Kong to Bangkok cruise in October 22 for two reasons. First it was “included”. 😂. Second, because at the moment our embarkation port of Hong Kong requires a quarantine period and since the ship will be there for a double overnight (our cruise is one of several segments on a Vancouver to Sydney cruise) I suspect if Viking is unable to have their continuing passengers leave the ship for three days that they may change the embarkation port. We don’t want to be dealing with trying to buy last minute transpacific airfare to say Taiwan if Viking makes a change. So perhaps a change like this isn’t a concern for your cruise but thought I would share our thinking just in case it might be. Good Luck with your decision making.
  3. To help me decide, I would check to see what the alternatives are at each airport if your inbound flight is late or the connecting one gets canceled or delayed. I always want the connecting airport with the most options.
  4. On each of our cruises, there have always been six or eight young or young at heart folks who find each other and make Torshaven what becomes by 10 pm all but their private nightclub. As others have said, it will not be the party ship that you would expect from Carnival….so it depends so much on what vibe you want. Congratulations and Best Wishes for a great life together!
  5. Dunno - hopefully someone will respond
  6. It wasn’t with Viking Air but we had this happen on our way to Iceland last summer. We had booked Delta Premium Economy seats but they changed the aircraft and we got a free upgrade to Delta One. Certainly not something to count on.
  7. I suggest downloading it before you board.
  8. Don’t be surprised if that message disappears and is replaced by the the one below. Just after booking I had the message I’ve posted. Then a week or so later the message you posted appeared and we got excited that perhaps we would see what our flights would be. Then a week or so (not a day or two), the initial message reappeared and has been there ever since 😢
  9. And it lets us work around our favorite meals in The Restaurant. To the OP, be sure and download the Vikiing app to your phone and once onboard login. In the before times, it was the easiest way to see menus for all venues and to make reservations. This could also be done via the TV in your stateroom. During our last cruise, July 2021 neither the app nor the TV had the menus so we had to go stand in line at the reservation desk😢. Someone recently posted at during their Dec 2021 cruise the app and TV were working fine. So hopefully it was a glitch related to restarting.
  10. We have never been able to see the menus until we are aboard. Therefore we never make Chef’s Table reservations until then.
  11. Does next September mean 2022? If so hopefully you’re still aboard for the Hong Kong to Bangkok segment. Need to buy you a drink for all the vicarious pleasure you provided via your WC blog.
  12. Is the air plus fee refundable/vouchable if Viking cancels the cruise. Currently have “free” air and paid to deviate as we want to stay longer in Bangkok after disembarkation. But haven’t purchased plus figuring we would wait and see what we get before doing so. That’s supposed to show up on MVJ on July 29 for our Oct 27 embarkation. But given current state of Asia we aren’t sure the cruise won’t get canceled.
  13. On our last precovid cruise (Half Trans-Atlantic) menus for all venues were available on the tv and the app. Even tea!
  14. Precovid we were able to do the same via the app or the stateroom TV. Unfortunately on our last cruise (July 2021 in Iceland) neither medium had the menus posted. Hopefully that has changed as modifying/making reservations that way was much easier.
  15. I’ve got my fingers crossed for a similar WC of course the stock market is going to have to recover first so have toes crossed too!😂
  16. Same was true for folks on our first TA when they didn’t have their luggage until we got to Madeira. As I recall, they also comped them some clothes from the shop.
  17. Good attitude from your friend-I agree that let’s hope everyone can have it when we cruise. It’s an oldie but goodie-if you’re checking a bag per person, split your clothes among the two bags. That way if one of them is delayed you’ll at least have half your clothes. Of course the easier thing to do is to learn to pack light and never have your bags leave your sight. We can travel for 12 nights in our rollaboards and DH custom made underseat bags.
  18. Based on cruisemapper looks like they finally left Vancouver!
  19. It’s whoever you booked the cruise you’re going on.
  20. From the posts (on the site that can’t be named) cheering the arrival of tags, you may want to get in touch with Viking (or your TA if you booked that way). Most folks seem to be posting that the tags arrived 2-3 weeks precruise. Most have reported no bags but someone the other day posted a picture that they had gotten a pouch.
  21. We had the questionnaire in Tokyo but then had an email conversation to hone our plans after our guide was assigned. Same process for our guide in Hiroshima. Wish we had of been as gracious as you and thought to bring a gift. Lucky for us, our guide didn’t present us with one…other than their hospitality and willingness to teach strangers about themselves and country.
  22. Lucky me! 😂. Just glad to know that it’s just me and not a systemic issue. Thanks!
