  1. I’d pack the light sweater. You might need it to sit outside on the deck anyhow.
  2. Hi. Figure a minimum one hour from Cape Liberty to JFK. If there is traffic or weather conditions, even longer. If you are traveling without status or precheck you need to be at JFK no later than 7:15. So you need to be off the ship, sitting in a taxi by 6:15. I wouldn’t risk it. Aren’t there any later flights on a partner airline? Or fly into another airport.
  3. How about taking Uber to TWA Hotel at JFK. You can give your bags to bellman. Have a meal and walk around. Then Pick up your bags and Uber to the terminal or take AirTrain. At least you’ll spend some time out of the terminal.
  4. Yep. Unless a poster can prove they used a RC they should not be allowed to post any opinions about the cruise. This poster also was pushing a tour guide. Isn’t that against CC rules? Nobody asked for one.
  5. We were on a post land tour from Barcelona to Madrid and we loved it. Zaragoza is a beautiful small city. This is where we stopped as the halfway point between Barcelona and Madrid.
  6. Avalon visits Omaha beach not Utah beach.
  7. Unless you have a secret way, how do you get from the Westside Hwy to the Triboro?
  8. Westside of Manhattan? It can take 25 mins just to go crosstown. Lol Eastside to LGA 20-25 mins if you’re lucky.
  9. Take a Rhine cruise and then take the train from either Basel or Amsterdam to Paris. Take the Seine cruise from there. If you only want to see Paris, I’ve seen Paris add extensions from some of the cruiselines also.
  10. You cruise “ a lot”. Have you ever been on ONE river cruise? Lol. But you come here to this thread. If you knew anything about the cruise, you’d know one could walk off the ship and visit the roof top bar at any hotel. Why are you trying to talk the OP out of a cruise you yourself never experienced?
  11. Why would you say the travel from Milan to Venice is a waste of a day? I want to enjoy Milan, then go onto Venice. If I had extra time I’d also do the Lake Como and Swiss Alps extensions from Milan also but I have family obligations. I have been to Venice previously and am looking forward to a return trip plus the other places we never went to. Sure we could stay in a hotel. But we love the ease of River touring. All we have to do is show up.
  12. I have family and friends who live in Europe. They take NJ Transit from EWR to NY Penn Station with no problems. Same with taking the Air Train from JFK into NYC Penn. ironically, taking mass transit from LGA involves taking a bus and then a subway or LIRR.
  13. Since the excursions are included in the River Cruise fare, most RC don’t find it necessary to book their own excursions.
  14. Hi. I’ll recommend Amawaterways for you if you are active. Every stop there is an active excursion which are either hikes and/or bike rides. You’ll be able to visit many more places along the Danube than if you did independly by train. Consider the ship your floating hotel. You can’t compare it to an ocean cruise.
  15. We usually suggest to get the best deal on airfare. Technically LGA is the closest and the Uber will most likely be the less expensive.
  16. We’re on Cruise Critic. Fellow cruisers reporting what worked for us in the past. That’s how Cruise Critic works.
  17. I usually recommend Financial District. However, you are only staying one night, and your main aim is to see a show. Times Square or Midtown West might work better. This way you can walk to and from your hotel from the show.
  18. I’m glad it worked out for you. I was speaking of if your flight gets canceled the day off because of weather or mechanical difficulty. Just giving a heads up to those thinking about it to fully research the implications.
  19. There is no downside until something happens to that flight and you need to rebook.
  20. If you allow the cruiseline book your flights you give up all control. And the ticket is a bulk rate ticket. If the ticket is part of the deal or very discounted, I’d go for it. But otherwise I like to book our own.
  21. I’ve been on both Uniworld and Amawaterways and you’ll be very happy on both. Uniworld is all inclusive including cocktails and gratuities. Of course the fare reflects that. The decor of the two ships are a bit different so you might want to look at the pics.
  22. You’ll be hooked and wonder what took you so long.
  23. Used another cruiseline but want to say if you are physically capable it’s easy to take the train to Sintra. Then you can Uber to the castles. It does take a little research on your part. Cascais is a cute seaside town. My husband actually swam here. If you enjoy beach towns you’ll enjoy it, otherwise not much to see or do.
  24. I’d stay in Financial District which is near the ferry. Nicer properties and not expensive because the area is not fully back since many still work from home. You can visit South Street Seaport, World Trade Center/9/11museum, Battery Park, all within walking distance. Plenty of places to eat. Put in Financial District in a search matrix like Kayak to see what comes up for your dates.
