  1. Personally, I just flew to Frankfurt and there was no requirement to be vaccinated. The airline didn’t ask, and neither did immigration. Most of the EU have done away with requirements.
  2. Yes. They will turn off the lights earlier.
  3. Well I tried to do it in the app but it timed out. Ended up using the machines in the airport for trip to Mainz, then in Mainz bought Rheinland-Pfalz tickets. No one checked our tickets on any of the 3 legs of the trip. (Unfortunately, today was the last day of construction on the line so we couldn’t get a train direct to Koblenz.)
  4. @notamermaidMet my sister at the airport and we just enjoyed a lovely train trip down “your” Rhine from Mainz to Koblenz. Saw a fair number of river cruise boats, and castles. Currently on the train along the Moselle to Cochem. Thanks for your advice about train tickets.
  5. By the way, there is a meeting point with seating on the arrivals level, with food available.
  6. I have the app, but I want the open regional Rheinland-Pfalz ticket (plus single fares to Mainz). Since I have time to kill, maybe I’ll ask at the travel centre next door. I already bought the tickets where advanced purchase made sense.
  7. I’m surprised they allowed you on the top deck. When I cruised this area they blocked off access to the sundeck. Even on the forward deck one level down we were required to sit going under the bridges.
  8. I think they run long lines from one across the other(s).
  9. My suggestion is to research things that interest you. Know the opening hours and how long you might want to spend there. Then, when you arrive, you can slot things into available time.
  10. We have arranged to meet at the DB travel centre. Since we are both already underway, I’ll leave it at that. We will walk to the train station together.
  11. If 150 pounds of luggage and your wife being the best dressed woman on the cruise is important to you, then obviously the train is not for you.
  12. I generally travel alone, with one medium (24-25”) suitcase and a backpack. I am then quite flexible, and prefer public transit. I try to avoid cabs or car services due to the cost. For me, I can live with carrying less.
  13. My current plan is to be there next Sunday. Train and bus from Cochem.
  14. Someone suggested by the McDonald’s. Also on that level is the DB travel centre, and since we will be taking the train. I think that we will meet at one or the other.
  15. That seems to be the most recent comment, but it is from 7 months ago.
  16. This is a physical SIM, but yes they do eSIM. Check it out at travel.orange.com/en/. No adjustments needed when you cross European borders. You have a French (country code 33) phone number.
  17. I just purchased an Orange travel package from Amazon for an upcoming trip to Germany and France. It provides 8 GB (currently increased to 15GB) of data as well as 30 minutes of calls + 200 SMS from mainland France and Europe to the rest of the world. Also includes unlimited calls and texts in Europe. Only drawback for me is the 14 day validity. If we need anything the last 2 days that we can’t do on wi-fi we’ll use my sister’s (US) Verizon roaming.
  18. This isn’t really true. A lot of travel cards are data only; I guess that they expect tou to use wi-fi calling and iMessage?
  19. Why do you say you are locked in? I read the terms and conditions and you can cancel up to the day before in most cases.
  20. Yes, TIFF definitely has an effect on hotel rates.
  21. Just a picky comment from a Canadian. Saint John, New Brunswick is never shortened to St. John. 😃
  22. I have already booked some excursions for my June 2024(!) Norway cruise on the Dawn.
  23. We had one in the Toronto area during the first Covid winter; it was OK, but nothing particularly special. My sister lives in upstate New York, and many of her neighbours put out elaborate displays. The local paper has a list of all the locations that they know about, and we have done a driving tour a number of times in her vicinity to see the lights - no charge. We had one in the Toronto area during the first Covid winter; it was OK, but nothing particularly special.
  24. If I remember correctly, Chris has Ukrainian roots. Did you make it to the Ukrainian festival (or the Polish one which was on at the same time)?
