  1. Meclizine. Works like a charm (for me at least).
  2. My opinion: Oh for Pete’s sake people, she’s not dangling over the water. She’s a few feet off the ground. Let’s not overreact.
  3. Don’t know. But you can always order a “vodka and soda” if that’s what you want.
  4. The trouble with the Concordia was with the corporation, the captain, senior officers and some of the crew. Now with passengers who hadn’t muster drilled yet.
  5. Oh my god, thank you. This triggered a memory I hadn’t thought about for decades. Mad crush on a girl in college. She got in big trouble because she and her roommates decided not to go out in the middle of the night when an (undoubtedly false) alarm went off in the middle of the night. Wonder what she’s doing now.
  6. Yes, although if one person in the cabin has a medical/person reason to avoid alcohol you can usually call and have them downgraded to a no alcohol package.
  7. I really enjoy having a drinks package. It’s nice on vacation to just get a drink without having to debate if I really want to spend the money on one more drink today. That said, several lines have priced their drink packages so high there’s no way I’m paying that.
  8. For someone who is skeptical about cruising, a week’s commitment is a lot to ask. While I 100% agree that it isn’t cruising at its best, it certainly a better option than not cruising.
  9. You want to pre-plan, but not necessarily pre-buy. The only one that’s hard is Florence, which is a PITA to get to from a ship in Livorno. Consider the ship’s Florence on your own or pre-arrange transportation.
  10. I’ve sailed on all the cheaper mainstream lines. Overall quality is about the same. If I had to put one last it would be carnival, but not by a huge amount. And personally, I really like MSC food.
  11. If leaving early causes the ship to violate cabotage laws, the ship can be fined and they have the right to go after the passenger for the cost of that fine. Not worth - IMO - the risk of a multi thousand $fine to just walk off instead of asking.
  12. No idea what the meetups are like, but they are listed as LGBT…. No Dorothy in sight. Bill and his friends are still listed.
  13. So if NCL charges $30/day for crap service, how much do you think they’ll charge for better service?
  14. The folks on this board are pretty conservative when it comes to cruising. Not so interested in risk or adventure. They just wanna make their ship. And they tend to be more well off than your average cruiser so aren’t as worried about hotel and transportation costs. Not me. Normally I encourage people (other people, not necessarily me) to throw caution to the wind and fly in the day of. We need more risk and excitement in our lives. And hotel savings means you can have a larger bar bill🍹🥂🍻 But, I just looked and saw it’s a 6:50 am flight. Which usually means leaving your house at 4-something. Which could mean getting up at - gulp - 3-something. That’s no way to start a vacation.
  15. Just curious, what training do you think e-muster fails to provide, that is better done in a group setting?
  16. One nice thing about NCL… If you are stuck in New York, you are stuck in New York and not Bayonne.
  17. I thought it came from the Spice Girl. Anyway, just to confirm, if you want sun sailing from New York, you want a cabin on the starboard side. Outside cabin preferably.
  18. I’m a huge believer in Meclizine. There are other choices as well. But the key is there are ways of keeping seasickness away. Even in rough seas. Even in a small ship. That sounds like a trip of a lifetime. Don’t let seasickness worried keep you away.
  19. The cruise lines have been listening to Chief Brody.
  20. My mom would be so happy to know she was ahead of her time. Now we just have to get people to start asking to have their bread rolls to go.
  21. many of us believe the old style muster drill doesn’t do a better job than virtual drills.
  22. I took my first NCL cruise back in December. I thought it really weird that the late-nite food option is a sit down restaurant. Not the end of the world, but a grab and go option would be nice.
