  1. Bucket list means whatever you want it to mean. Speaking only for me, I differentiate between bucket list items and check list items. When my mom was a little girl, she read a book about Pompeii. All her life she wanted to go and finally she made it there in her 70s. That’s a bucket list item. On that same trip we went to see the leaning tower of Pisa. Did we have a burning desire to see it? Nah. But it’s one of those things you just gotta see to have seen it. A check list item. It was actually a ton of fun. Not so much the ancient buildings, but the hundreds of tourists taking goofy forced perspective photos.
  2. While there is no way to know for sure, excursions tend to fall into three groups: 1. Excursions that start close to the time the ship docks. This is the majority of excursions. In the absence of other info, you can guess this is the starting time. So I’d assume you have the evening free in your case and research what you want to do. Just don’t go putting down a big deposit or anything. 2. Basic city bus tour. These are the shortest and usually cheapest tour. These tend to be scheduled throughout the stop so you really have to clue until you see what time you are assigned. 3. Tours for a specific time. A “sunset sail” “dinner experience” etc.
  3. In trouble as in going out of business? Nope. In trouble as in not making enough money to keep the shareholders happy? Yep. Expect belt tightening industry wide.
  4. I thought it was going to be about thongs
  5. I used my speciality dining voucher for teppanyaki last cruise and had a great time, with some really fun people. A good choice for solos, IMO.
  6. I think some of you may be taking this thread a little too seriously
  7. Each cruise line has their own policy.
  8. I walked to the terminal two weeks ago (that was my plan all along). The part along the water doesn’t have a sidewalk. It didn’t seem dangerous because traffic was at a standstill most of the time. But it was awkward for people pulling suitcases (I had a backpack.) Lots of people were doing it in both directions; most of them looked unhappy. If anyone decides to walk, make sure you have mapped out which way to walk as there are no signs and you can’t just look at the ship and go in that direction.
  9. I’m sure it’s a perfectly fine terminal for unloading freight or oil. For disenbarking 4,000 passengers then embarking a different 4,000? Not so much.
  10. Does this board have the best people or what? That’s going above and beyond for your fellow man. I’m sure your sacrifice will be appreciated.
  11. I did the tour last week. Off Norwegian, but I don’t think it matters. We stopped at some pile of rocks, the chapel and then were let out at Arashi Beach. With a cool tour host and good crowd on the bus we had fun driving around.
  12. I suspect Señor Frog is responsible for more pier runners than broken down tour vans.
  13. Their memo was signed by a “Chief Martin Brody”
  14. Another question is how important alcohol is to you. On some cruises (mainly Europe) you’ll be allowed to order drinks. In others (mainly North Anerican n) you won’t.
  15. Two days. I can’t really think of a good reason for the extended delay. Should have booked a back to back I guess.
  16. At our auction, small prints were given away to everyone who stuck it out to the end. They came in a nice cardstock envelope and you just took it with you. You could win larger prints; those are the ones you get shipped to your house for $35 infrared.
  17. I find 20% of $100+/day to be a very nice price for a drink package, but outrageous for gratuity of a free package. Ridiculous marketing, IMO. But I will say in practice the package works very smoothly. For sodas they just glance as the card and serve. For alcohols a quick swipe of the card. You never see a bill, have to write in $0 for an additional gratuity etc.
  18. Others have reported that, per UK law, the gratuities are baked into the UK price. The price you see is the price you pay. Such a crazy concepts to us Americans /s.
  19. Anyone know if there’s a listing for Ship’s Captain, no experience required.
  20. Sorry I didn’t have the sense to screenshot the daily program. MainStage entertainment was Pricilla, the Dance show, some singer and the Christmas show. Specific nights kept changing. I thought the ship felt near full, but it probably wasn’t. The 1/3 full post Covid sailings have spoiled me. Pool deck was happening, but people were able to find chairs - I didn’t see people circling. Same at the buffet. Looked full, but there was always at least one open table.
  21. NCL is absolutely not charging an 18% gratuity. 20% sure, but not 18 🙂
  22. There were several kinds shifty guys in the port area with tiny monkeys. I heard they were asking $10 for three pictures holding the monkeys.
  23. All right, now I’m <peeved> Now that I’m home, is there any way for me to officially complain? Not that I expect anything in return. But this is sooo wrong.
