These two have such very, very specific likes that it's pretty impossible. One, for instance, like to rock climb, go off the grid, kayak down a river with the three of them. LOL
That's what we like to do. 'Google is my friend.' I can find places anywhere. Even found the "best soup in the world" according to Bourdain in Hue, Vietnam. LOL Side streets are also a great friend 🙂
If I truly need to be exempted for a real reason I wouldn't want it to be permanent. My husband and I have each served and when you look around it's really not a "jury of your peers." Too many people who couldn't get out of it.
Oh, the grands get a gift (just one) and honestly we kinda followed our unspoken suggestion from our daughters. We give them small gifts and the girls give "Santa" and larger gifts. Let them get the glory 🙂
When we had grands we started 529 accounts for each of them. Tidy sums over ten years later.
But regarding travel 🙂 my big issues with cruising - and easily solved - is that you can't really get very far away from the water 🙂 And you don't usually have an over night some place.
That's why some years ago we went with the charitable donations at Christmas. And each grandchild gets just one gift. When I suggested that one girl said "music to my ears."
We will take them out to eat occasionally.
Yep. We gave each of them a set amount of money for their weddings. Nothing since then and they're in their 40s. For Christmas we make donations to the charities of our choice. BTW if we gave them a cruise...well, they would like get crazed...and have to figure out how to say no.
I remember they were like Madras pants and a solid red top. Actually, cruise-related, things like that became his 'lounge wear' when in ship cabins/hotel rooms. Keep the nicer clothes in better shape.
That's exactly what we love about DIY travel. Getting off the beaten path. Hanging with the locals and eating the local food. So I do a ton of research but always figure out a way to DIY every once in a while.
Bob traveled to Sao Paolo Brazil and wore elastic waist, plaid pants and a coordinating tee. His bag didn't make it until the following day. He was the only one not in a suit 🙂
I've wondered, does the food cool off to the point that it's a negative? It seems it's certainly a longer walk than to the dining table. And under a metal cover could steam it a bit. TIA.
