  1. I always suggest to people going to Bermuda for the first time is the first day book a private 5-6 hour tour. Don't go thru NCL, plenty of private companies to use. Doing a 5-6 hour tour gives you a great way to see a lot of the island. Day two and three you can hit the beaches
  2. Sort of..... We were suppose to stop in Bar Harbor on the Gem on July 4th. We were really looking forward to it. Three weeks ago we got an email from NCL stating we would be stopping in Portland instead. NCL never said why. I did a little research and found out our cruise was Never supposed to stop in Bar Harbor..... this coming from the Harbor Master of Bar Harbor. The pier used for tenders in closed because they are using it for fireworks. What pisses me off is NCL had to know about this. As far back a February our cruise was not on the schedule to stop there.... Of course we didn't get notified until After Final Payment. Had me know we would have gone on another date, Bar Harbor is Awesome..... Portland not so much
  3. My wife and I love the Jewel class ships and love the Gem. Will be sailing her in 45 days for the 4th time. The Haven is small and not worth it to us, however the Suites are just as nice with almost all the same perks. The Gem doesn't have go carts, water slides or a lot of other things the larger ships do.... and thats OK with us. We have always found service and food very good across all the NCL ships
  4. You are 100% correct. Sailed with NCL over a dozen times we have a cruise coming up in 6 weeks. Our last cruise I spent 30 minutes trying to upload our photos. These same photos have been used for our passports and other things. FINALLY got them to upload, get to the pier for check in and we are told we need to retake your photos.... LOL.... This next cruise coming up I'm going to skip the photos's (if that is possible). Another thing I get annoyed at is online and the App always show I have a new email.... I don't and their is no way to get rid of it
  5. Have a great time in the Haven and in Bermuda. Will be leaving for Bermuda about two weeks after you out of Boston. If you are looking for things to do while in Bermuda and are a little adventurous let me know. Their are a number of small islands you can kayak to just off the mainland of Bermuda within a 8 minute cab ride of the dockyard. I'm still debating if I'm going to do a live review on the Gem. Two things I will do is a video tour of the Thermal Spa and our Forward cabin. I've looked all over YT and they only have a few not great videos
  6. Ship safe power strip https://amzn.to/4bSvFvR
  7. Nice! What are you using? I use a GoPro with various mounts depending where on cabin is. I shoot in video mode, 4K one shot every two seconds
  8. IF everything goes on time we have been off the ship or close to getting off at the set time. The ship also needs to be cleared, sometimes that is done in minutes, sometimes its lot of minutes
  9. Just one more thing "America" doesn't make.... a 4 million dollar digital press.
  10. We bring our own gear also and drive to Boston from PA Have a great time!
  11. The Gem and Pearl go hand and hand. Both Tobacco and Horseshoe are nice. The caves are cool, Gibbs lighthouse. We tend to skip those since we have been there before. For anyone going for the first time I highly recommend doing a 5 hour private island tour the first day, you really get to see a lot. Our plan this time around in Tobacco Bay the first day, HSB the second and they renting a boat for 6 hours from H20 Sports.... https://www.h2osportsbermuda.com We have rented from them in the past. Its a great way to get off the beaten path. The are a 7 minute cab ride from the dockyard
  12. Bermuda is great and very easy. No need for to use the ship excursions for going to the beach and some other things. We love the Gem, probably our favorite ship
  13. Been there a number of times and never had issues taking off water. Took off a 32 ounce bottle in my back pack. When in June are you goin? My wife and I are on the June 28th sailing
  14. Come on now she'll be in the Haven. No crazies there except few nutty passengers Lol
  15. My bet is it will never happen, her medical bills and travel reimbursement will be fully covered. She will be offered a payout in the hundreds of thousands.... maybe a million along with sailing in the Haven once a year for the rest. Time will tell
  16. My company was in a law suit a number of years ago against a company based out of Spain. Long story short it was for a very expensive piece of equipment that failed. We were told by our lawyers and some others unless you are looking to recover 10 of millions of dollars and have many years to kill move on. Had this been a US based company it would have been "Easy" being based in another country makes it extremely difficult
  17. 10's of millions??? A lot easier said then done. My guess is being 75 years old she will be offered nice a deal from NCL and she / her family will settle.
  18. Crazy stuff can happen anywhere. Hopefully everyone is OK at the end of the day. I wonder if the woman passenger will get a free cruise.
  19. When we were last there 18 months ago the security line for the Haven was to the right as you look at the river. The actual Haven check in was all the way down near the end on the left side. Been to NYC a bunch of times and I swear each cruise things are moved around
  20. Nice, The Star is similar to the Gem.... What cabin did you get?
  21. One thing I did not like about the aft suite on the Gem (twice) was the amount of soot and sometimes trash that would land on it. On our cruise to Bermuda the room steward was out there every morning washing the deck and chairs down. In June we are going to Bermuda in a forward suite this time
  22. There is nothing like crab cakes from Maryland and Lobster from Maine. Nothing else comes close
  23. My wife and I always bring a carry on and a small backpack, no issues at all
