  1. It wouldn't effect business in the ports that much as October is getting very late in the season. By mid October sunrise is around 8am and sunset around 6pm. It gets wet and cool. Not very pleasant. Cork has some October arrivals, but it is not a tendering port. Dingle, Galway and Killybegs would be tendering ports. I would not be to confident of the weather around the south and west coasts of Ireland at that time of year. The trip from Dingle through Galway and up along the west coast to Killybegs can be rough at the best of time. Atlantic swells that have been unhindered for a thousand miles. We also get the tail end of some the storms that hit East Coast USA. The Dun Laoghaire decision is very sensible.
  2. Aah, the mud has cleared from my eyes! So you achieve 200 Mariner days during the first element of the B2B, then I would expect to receive the benefits on the second element as it does comply with the rules (cruise after achieving next level). p.s. save all the laundry for the second cruise! p.p.s. Not hijacking as it is relevant to the original question!
  3. Posters have mentioned using other Amazon sites (.it .de etc), but the important element is to check where the product ships from. It is the original shipping point that determines the taxes and duties. Over recent months the EU has become quite strict on imports originating outside of the EU.
  4. Welcome to Cruise Critic. First off, your post may be moved to the Ports of Call board for Europe/Greece. You do not dock in Athens but dock in the port city of Piraeus. The Athens Ho-Ho bus does not operate in Piraeus. There is a Piraeus Ho-Ho, but not worth the effort as there are no real sights to be seen around Piraeus. You could take the X80 bus and get off at the stop for Acropolis (which is one stop before Syntagma Square. After the Acropolis you could pick up a Ho-Ho Bus to visit the rest of the city before returning to port on the X80. In 2022 the Daily Ticket for the X80 was €4.10. Even for 5 that is pretty good value. The X80 bus can get quite crowded as locals use it to commute.
  5. Just be careful and check dates as the first sample I selected had dates out by one day! Gave me a bit of a moment as it is for the cruise I have booked next month!
  6. The agent is correct, it doesn't matter. If you achieve 4 star during the second cruise, it will still be your next cruise before you receive benefits.
  7. I wonder if Bard actually understood how funny this one liner is?
  8. I would put the HAL luggage tags on after your flight. I always ask the reception desk for the loan of a stapler. There are both types of electrical outlets US and European. The US are 110v and the European are 220v so if you do use an adapter, then do check that the equipment you are connecting to the European outlet is rated for 220v.
  9. Do panels need replacement? No one on this board has any more information than can be gleaned by reading the posted links.
  10. How do you think that any problem is solved? Maybe just ask social media 'experts' for the best options? Or analyze the problem and develop an action and recovery plan?
  11. OP doesn't sail until next year (2024)
  12. Absolutely! But ongoing quality control checks within the manufacturing process may discover that a component part is not of the required standard, or that the assembly of the entire product was not satisfactory and lead to a production halt and recall. I have just read some of the type approvals for Paroc products (sad I know!) and some of them require "periodical inspections at least every second year". https://www.paroc.com/certificate-search
  13. Purchased it as add on for last cruise and we got 14 sailing days plus 14 bonus days for spending. (we spent next to nothing because of HIA). I have also purchased it for as add on for next month on Nieuw Statendam, so will report back if there is any change.
  14. two types of fire-resistant panels have lost their safety certifications and are now being recalled, two types of its panels have lost their safety certifications due to recent failures in safety certification testing. caused local distributors to recall the impacted panels I am really not going to lose any sleep over this. If you get rid of the printed hyperbole and click bait and look at the facts, then it is the same as any other product recall. The Safety Certification and Standards requires ongoing testing. A recent batch of product suffered failures during testing. The manufacturer notified distributors to withdraw the product from sale. It now comes down to how often the product is manufactured. If each production run is tested and previous productions passed the testing then there is no ongoing problem. This happens all the time in the motor industry. Next time your car is going in for a service, take a few photographs of the engine bay before giving it to the service center and when you get the car back have a look at the dabs of various coloured paint that have appeared on bulk heads, engine covers, timing belt covers etc. Those paint marks relate to recalls, most of which were precautionary.
  15. Tips are not necessarily included in prices advertising in UK/Ireland/Europe. Taxes, Port Fees etc ....yes, they by law must be included in the advertised price, but not gratuities. @EVERTON1 remember to factor in some exchange rate fluctuation and also the fact that you will not have ABTA protection.
  16. According to the answers on Mariner FAQ, then yes, they will be invited too. https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/mariner-society.html All guests sharing a stateroom as part of the same booking will receive the benefits earned by the guest at the highest Star level. Guests sharing a stateroom under different booking numbers receive individual Star level benefits (this includes 3rd & 4th guest sharing the same stateroom).
  17. There used to be a Statement Printer (looked like an ATM) close to the Guest Service Desk. It took a swipe of the room key card to print a statement. Are they still available?
  18. I should have mentioned that there are 'porters' available outside the train station who will take your luggage to your hotel. If you walk with them you will have to be quite quick as they do not hang around. You may be able to negotiate with them for the next morning too.
  19. Not needed at all for any purpose! It is no benefit during boarding, as we still take paper boarding pass. It does show events during the day, but that is available on the stateroom TV and a paper Daily Progam is delivered to your room each evening.
  20. Recently AMS Schiphol extended the Pre Book Timeslot facility to Non-Schengen flights. Although security times are nothing like the disaster of last year, perhaps those with early flights would enjoy the benefit of not needing to queue. https://www.schiphol.nl/en/page/timeslots/
  21. Nieuw Statendam is Orange, Oosterdam is Purple Rotterdam VII is a shade of Olive Green.
  22. I would suggest train from Trieste to Venice Santa Lucia station and stay at hotel close to the station (suggest Hotel Principe - we stayed there twice). There is a vaporetto station close to the hotel (across from the station) that will get you around or it is a great walk from the hotel to san marco square.
  23. Interesting, but you are comparing pricing for a last minute cruise in 3 weeks time against a cruise that embarks in 12 months time. How much would last minute flight and hotel prices influence the overall pricing?
  24. Unless the porters have been imported from USA then they do not require tipping. Tipping is not a big thing in Europe. People are paid a fair wage to do a job.
  25. Thanks for posting that info. DW doesn't like seafood, but it would be my first choice. Good to know that she can join the table with her regular food while I enjoy myself! 😁
