  1. @JazzyV just wondering if you know the medical terms for your surgery choices... being a retired ortho floor RN, I wanted my dr to just do a laminotomy (not a laminectomy) -- he said if he did it would probably collapse in a few years & then I'd need the laminectomy & fusion - that made up my mind just to do both now instead of later.
  2. @JazzyV glad you finally have a plan -- hope it is super successful! Just know it's a bit of a long recovery....I'm about 3 1/2 months out from my spine surgery & am still having good & bad days with pain. Only did 4 PT sessions 'cause I didn't feel they were worthwhile... 4 exercises today, 3 different ones the next time, 4 different ones the next time & then I said 'Forget it". I'm 79, not overweight & fairly active with my only limiting issue is emphysema (not on oxygen) so I thought my recovery would be easier than it seems to be.
  3. @JazzyV Only 1 more sleep on Maui - you can take me off the celebration list. This visit has been totally different from our previous ones without Lahaina, @kazu I think Max sometimes wants to go out for the treat, too - they're funny.
  4. @jazzyv - I was supposed to increase my Gabapentin after about 8 weeks post-op - only did it for a couple of days - too sleepy. Went back to 300 mg at bedtime for a few weeks but now taking it morning & night - still having hip & thigh pain but it's not waking me up.
  5. Contact Ship Services/Special Needs & fill out the form....on board each evening you'll be given the next night's dinner menu & at the top of it note your restrictions. In the specialty restaurants they seem to know but they do ask. In the Lido you're on your own.
  6. I had, what I now think, a dysfunctional mother...divorced from my dad when I must have been quite young as I have no memory of him till I met him when I was 25 or so. She had very few friends so my significant females were my never married aunt & her niece, both teachers, who lived across the street & endured hours of Monoply & taught me Canasta & let me grade 3rd graders papers & my mom's brother's wife who remained one of my treasured friends for many, many years until she passed.
  7. Gray, showery day on Maui & the power on part of the west side went out about an hour ago....glad we hadn't gone anywhere since we're on the 9th floor of our building ...
  8. Thinking good thoughts for Les & his surgical team tomorrow.
  9. Should have posted this yesterday....from Maui 20240309_073911.heic
  10. Condolences to Sarah, Pauline & Graham for Sarah's dad passing. Hope springs eternal for reconciliation but sometimes it never happens...I'm sorry.
  11. For us today is take the dog to his groomer/boarding kennel, come home & pack to stay near SeaTac in prep for our 5 hour flight to Maui tomorrow for 2 weeks. Cancelled last year since we had done the 35 day HAL cruise & we were vacationed out. Hoping for sun & nice weather!
  12. & you could get pastries the night before & put them in your "fridge".
  13. @Heartgrove We thought our now 14+ year old Eskipoo was getting near the end in January, 2023. We obtained a list of vets who would euthanize him here at home. Fast forward a year, he's slower than he was & can't jump up on the couch but he's still alive & kicking - loves his daily .7 mile walk at the park, sometimes acts like he got new batteries put in. You just never know....
  14. @BermudaBound2014 That's the only island I bought souvenirs at.
  15. I don't like the 'open' area they're in on the K - I prefer the 'room' they were in on the smaller ships.
  16. I'll raise a glass to all the certified nurses in the world -- I became an Orthopedic Certified Nurse by taking (& passing) an ortho specific test!!! And my 5 bean chili was a hit yesterday...
  17. The outfit reminded me of the "Call for Philip Morris" cigarette ads.
  18. @smitty34877 Thanks for the explanation -- my daughter is from my 1st marriage & DH adopted her & we have a son together. I can tell there is lots of love in your household from your posts. ❣️
  19. @smitty34877 Really NOMB - but what relation is Tana to you? I thought she was your daughter but your today's post mentions your DD & Tana. @dfish The 6-bean chili (minus the navy beans 'cause I couldn't find any in the 3 stores I went to) is simmering in the crockpot.
  20. Again, HUGE YAY @JazzyV -- so glad you're having less pain & moving better!!! Keep it up!
  21. For our 35 day cruise it made sense but for shorter cruises, it probably wont. We likely won't do any ship excursions (been to all the ports), don't need wi-fi & we're happy with our cabin choice. We purchased Club Orange because we had a great experience with it.
