I’ll be interested to see if any more “pop up” Rudi’s actually happens. I was told by one of the Pinnacle Grill supervisors here on Nieuw Amsterdam that they have been discontinued on all non Pinnacle class ships as of October 1st this year and my Rudi’s reservation was canceled. ☹️ The stand alone Rudi’s on the Pinnacle ships is still in operation. Please let us know if anyone gets a pop up again.

Hi! NA did not give me a tote. I didn’t ask for one because I have way too many already of all types! I haven’t seen anyone carrying one around during the last four weeks so take that info as you like. 😉. I’m in a signature suite. My key card does have a hole in it. Someone asked about metal walls and I tested the wall behind my bed with the magnet on my Kindle cover and the wall was attracted to the magnet. Any other questions? I’ll answer what I can! ~Nancy

Mine did. Nieuw Amsterdam Panama Canal cruise right now. The one last night had a good turn out and lots of people on the dance floor at BB King.

Puerto Vallarta is my favorite by far of the Mexican Riviera ports! We were just there for only 8 hours and didn’t seem enough. I love leaving in the evening from there. Ensenada? I would stay onboard myself for that one and make a “sea day” out of it! My vote goes to the longer PV itinerary! I haven’t been on NCL so no info on cruise line difference there. ~Nancy.

My daughter and her husband went on HAL with me on the Nieuw Amsterdam to Alaska when they were 40 and 47 and had a ball. The son in law had said he thought cruises on HAL were only for “old people” and only went along to humor me but really did have a good time!

That’s too bad it has deteriorated so much. Thanks a lot for the detailed reasons. It doesn’t sound like something I would enjoy. The only luau I enjoyed has been the Old Lahaina Luau on Maui and I’m pretty done with them now.

Would you mind explaining why you feel like you wouldn’t go back? I’ve not been there but would be interested in your take on it. Thanks. ~Nancy

I’ve been in a veranda and a signature suite. For a 7day if I was traveling with someone I sleep with I would probably stick with a veranda. Traveling with a friend I always opt for the signature suite. Currently I’m on 4 weeks on Nieuw Amsterdam and traveling solo and went with a signature suite. I love them!! I’m celebrating a big birthday also.😳. For my next 21 days on the Rotterdam I’ll be in a veranda. I don’t like the layout of signature suites on pinnacle class ships. I would only select one if traveling with a child or someone who can benefit from the privacy of the dressing area/Murphy bed area on those ships. ~Nancy

I’m currently on the Nieuw Amsterdam on a Panama Canal cruise and the folks who boarded in Vancouver and San Diego were not required to take a Covid test. Why do you think you need to test? Are even unvaccinated people still required to test? ~Nancy

I’m on Nieuw Amsterdam now and masks for passengers are recommended. Crew wore masks until we got to Huatulco on the 14th(?) but today they are required to wear them again. Passengers are still recommended.

Dressy night here on Nieuw Amsterdam for our Panama Canal cruise has had pretty uninspiring menus so far, in my opinion. No lobster, rack of lamb or shrimp or really anything I have seen pre shutdown. Sad. I hope that at least New Years Eve and Christmas will be better. Other than that I’m having a great cruise! ~ Nancy

I’m on the Nieuw Amsterdam and crew had to all start wearing masks again today after about a week of them not required.

I’m Here on Nieuw Amsterdam and I tried my first ever pizza at sea at the New York deli. After eyeballing other people’s pizza I asked for extra cheese. The pizza was better than expected and I will have it again, with extra cheese!!! ~Nancy

We had a nice greeting party of pax hanging over the rail on deck three!! Whooping and clapping! The tour people were pretty funny waving and taking pictures of us taking pictures of them!!

The Captain did mention that the Panama government had okayed a mid canal pick up but because they canal was at max capacity today, the timing couldn’t be worked out. Apparently they tried to get them on sooner. He didn’t specify exactly where they would have done that but your suggestion makes sense.

The captain just announced that the 41 tour pax are flying to Panama City then will transport to Colon where we will briefly stop to pick them up. I’m so glad the can get back today and don’t have to wait until Friday when we get to Aruba! I’m sure they will have stories to tell about this mess! It seems to me that HAL has taken good care of them. ~Nancy. Ha ha. Oops, scubacruiserx2 posted same time as me. Great minds!

It seems they are experimenting with lots of things. That’s okay but hopefully they will settle on a policy and stick with it fleet wide for awhile!

Lunch and dinner menus change daily. Breakfast here on Nieuw Amsterdam closes at 10am. There is another late night limited service at 10:30 to 11:30 pm. A lot of crew eat then.

Fortunately all other pax and crew made it back!!!

Art auctions! I was shocked to see them on the Nieuw Amsterdam two weeks ago. 🙄 Good grief.

Yes. Captain said we will leave a little late while they do the required immigration paperwork for the pax left behind.

I’m currently on the Nieuw Amsterdam at Puntarenas Costa Rica. Just now the Captain just came on and said that the torrential rains earlier have blocked many roads and one bus of 41 people is stranded! He said they are now in a Marriott hotel and we will go ahead and sail so as not to miss our Panama Canal time slot on Wednesday. HAL is figuring out how to get them their passports and medications and they will be transported to somewhere currently unknown (Aruba?) to meet the ship! The tour they were on was a rainforest and zip line tour. What a bummer! It looks like HAL is scrambling to help. I’ll update when we hear more. ~Nancy
