  1. And you can’t name a single example of that on this thread, so it really is a moot point.
  2. Why are you worried about the crew member making $7.XX per hour. You should happy that he isn’t making $1.XX per hour elsewhere (which could easily be the situation in their home country) I fail to see the need for concern
  3. Well isn’t that the entire crux of it all? World economies aren’t equal, never have been, never will. Almost anyone would take a job anywhere doing almost anything if they were offered three times their annual salary in a 9 month period. Sorry, but I do not view this situation as the “poor staff being taken advantage of”. I prefer to view it as “good for them for seizing an opportunity”
  4. The same employees that sign new contracts every 9 months for years on end?? Yeah OK, must be terrible
  5. Guaranteed MINIMUM for any crew member is roughly $1200 per month, which is roughly 3 times what the same person could make at home in the same period. (Based on Filipino statistics)
  6. In today’s world of “gender ambiguity”, the hospitals I am on staff at, are required to confirm pregnancy status of ALL individuals. A lawsuit was threatened recently by an individual who felt they were being discriminated against because an X-Ray technician did not ask this question.
  7. The little guy’s guaranteed salary is protected by international convention, they are being well taken care of.
  8. Clean linens and dishes are the bare minimum included in my cruise fare; it is not worth a gratuity unless they find a way to give me an extra clean plate or ultra sanitized sheets. Gratuities are for above and beyond, not bare minimum.
  9. You are absolutely right, and contrary to the belief of many on these boards the staff are paid a living wage. The problem is, these same folks don’t understand that “living wage” is country dependent, the living wage for a Filipino citizen is different than a North American or Western European.
  10. No, I already have a good paying job; just like the dishwashers.
  11. My apologies, you never mentioned a drink package.
  12. You aren’t expected to tip above the 18% on the bar bill either
  13. Yes You are wrong Bar tabs have 18% added automatically, there is no way around it.
  14. Doesn’t appear outraged at all. Sounds like reasonable expectations. I have never seen dirty dishes or towels on a ship, but that is easily remedied if indeed it were to happen.
  15. For North American embarkations, not visiting Canada or Bermuda, this is correct
  16. File a fraud claim with your credit card company, let them fight it out
  17. A big 1000% agreement on the video screen and the disruption of Central Park. What an absolutely asinine design plan.
  18. Your carry one will be inside your room before you.
  19. No; JS pays the same rate as standard staterooms in the automatic gratuity program.
  20. They signed on for a wage of $XX, and they are guaranteed that. Budgeting for bonuses and extras is a mistake. Make no mistake, I tip those I come in contact and who make an extra impact handsomely. I will not, however, participate in a scheme that uses the laundry staff and the dishwashers as a “guilt pawn”. They get paid well to wash dishes and laundry, nothing more.
