  1. Interesting that the Signature aka pay extra menu has now been rolled out to Aurora. Wonder if it is or has been rolled out to the rest of the fleet?
  2. We were insured with Staysure and all our missed port claims were. First one took about 3, maybe 4 weeks. Staysure then changed the claims they were using. The following two claims were both settled in less than two weeks. Tips for Staysure, just make sure you scan or photo the letter showing which port(s) were missed so that you upload as part of your claim. You also need to upload a copy of your booking confirmation showing the original itinery.
  3. We had the drinks package email for our forthcoming 12 night Ventura cruise. Firstly, only booked last week after noticing there had been a decrease in prices. Secondly, sil sharing the cabin with us. The package has to be booked for each person (no issues with that). The cost of pre-booking the deluxe package and after taking into account the 10% loyalty discount for three, is close to or exceeds the total cost of our cruise. And we booked a superior deluxe balcony on this occasion.
  4. Since we've had insurance that included missed port cover we've missed ports on three different ships. First occasion, I went to reception a couple of days after the missed to ask about a letter. They printed one off for me straight away saying that they only issue them if requested. Next occasion, went along as above. This time was told that letter would delivered to cabin, mentioned in passing that they issue them if requested. Third occasion, all passengers had a letter two letters delivered to their cabin. Different reception managers, different ways how to deal with the same thing.
  5. Draught Moretti available in most bars on this ship. Also Shipyard (American IPA) in a few bars. If you fancy a craft beer or three, a good, varied selection of bottled ones across the ship, mostly half-litre.
  6. When we were on Aurora in September we had two tender ports. All passengers included those who could walk without any aids had to do the tender assessment en-route to the tender station.. It comprised of have to step over two lines 18 inches apart.
  7. More than 10 years ahead of you. Lots of friends who receive state retirement pension. Don't know anyone who plays bridge either! We used to go the ballroom dance classes. Unfortunately since the demise of Oceana and Oriana, combined with the move several years on Ventura and Azura of moving the classes from the show lounge to the atrium, we no longer go. Didn't even bother going when we on Aurora earlier this year when the classes were in Carmens or the disco.
  8. We are booked to go on 05 December. Only booked last week. Got the upgrade offer email yesterday. We have booked a Superior Deluxe Balcony, the only higher grades therefore being suites. On a previous cruise (October) we got the upgrade knockback email about a week before departure. No surprise as at the time we bidded all cabins above our grade were sold out. Had a quick look on another social media site. Lots of people posting that their upgrade bids had been accepted in the last few days. Doubt our upgrade will be accepted as it would rely on a late cancellation, and there's probably more people who've bidded (or should it be bade?) more that the paltry amount I've offered. Like our previous cruise, I expect to find out in two weeks. Happy with the cabin we've allocated anyway, though won't turn me nose up if our offer is accepted.
  9. Did briefly in October the night before getting back in to Southampton. A word of warning though.Although both myself and The Ole Lady got on line briefly at about the same time, The Ole Lady got a small bill, whilst I didn't. And we're both with the same provider.
  10. Wasn't on that cruise. The woman we saw was with a chap who we assumed to be her husband/partner. She always wore a long dress on the formal nights.
  11. Landed at SOA International. Never got to fly on the real thing. Should keep me out of trouble on cold rainy days.
  12. A few years we were on Oceana (I think) and there was a young women on crutches. She had lost a leg above the knee. Throughout the cruise (14 nights probably) we never once saw her in a wheelchair. Neither did we see her use a lift. Saw her going up and down the stairs on several occasions though. I wonder how this lady and others who are mobile even though they require crutches would fare under these T&Cs?
  13. Actually we're on Arcadia's worldie next year. We probably will be making a couple of bookings taking advantage of the pre-cruise window. Didn't realise it was as low as £12. The only thing is it has to be the right menu as The Ole Lady is great with fish or fancy steaks, which can be a bit limiting if the "wrong" menu. Hopefully we can find out menu rotation once on board and shift dates is necessary. Less than two months to go now!
  14. Our first Christmas cruise was on Oceana and we went north. Final port of call was Gothenburg. While we wandering about saw a few crew having some time off ashore. One poor chap though was wearing a tshirt and flip flops. At least he had long jeans on and not shorts. Poor bloke looked frozen. Didn't get the memo about where the ship was going.
  15. Ouch. I'm too mean to even pay what Ocean Grill and Sindhu charge!
  16. Sort of.... Some formal nights the menus are better, sometimes, they're quite similar.
  17. The advice we've read is that we require a transit visa. Free of charge anyway. Making reservations - Will I need a visa?| Frequently Asked Questions | Visa requirements by country | P&O Cruises | Complete Cruise Solution
  18. You also need a visa for Sri Lanka. The earliest you can apply for it is 90 days before arrival.
  19. Thank you Selbourne for a very informative and captivating read. Only booked last week to go on Ventura next month, hopefully it will go as well as your cruise did.
  20. Unfortunately P&O don't seem to want the hassle of dealing with issue of these anti-social dimwits lighting up on their balconies. We had this on Arvia earlier this year. Reported to reception several times. Discussed the issue with the deck manager. All he was able to do was get us a complimentary bottle of house wine.. Lodged a complaint when we got home. Was basically told that unless the staff catch these people puffing on a Cohiba they are unable to do anything. 😠 We did get £250 FCC which we were able to put towards an already booked cruise. At least the anti-social dimwit saved us a bit of me and we had a bottle of plonk with dinner.
  21. The Ole Lady used to work for the railway in the ticket office. Every now and then some nearby resident would pop in to complain about the noise of the trains passing, station announcements etc. Stock answer was the railway was here before you moved here. If they continued to moan, the follow up answer was that the railway was there before your house was built.
