  1. Thank you for posting this video. I really enjoy Gary Bembridge, but was not aware of this video. Especially enjoyed his comments on Formal Night. He has a clever way of stating his opinions without offending anyone.
  2. An observation from our sailing this itinerary that you might consider. You got a taste this morning if you are in Las Vegas. You lost an hour's sleep last night with the time change. That happens four times on a West-to-East TA. That's after a losing three hours on your Las Vegas-Florida flight. We didn't feel much like a nice dinner on the cruise, coming from LA. Constantly tired. It must have been that many felt that way because Specialty Dining venues were available any night we walked by them. Suggest just being spontaneous in which nights you choose. You will know which dates are closer to sailing, in the Journey View part of the app.
  3. The difference comes down to whether a post intends to inform or impress. I'd rather give a streamlined explanation that meets the moment without going into fine details. Over time on this board, I think you'll find keeping it simple is the best received post. But if anyone is interested, they can read yours.
  4. What was your experience on the Sky and Discovery? Hope it worked for you.
  5. Worked with gas laws in my career. The curtain is "attacking you" because the hot water heats the air which then rises and goes over the top of the curtain. The air must be replaced, so the shower curtain is drawn in. Clothes pin it down, leave an air gap in the side of the curtain so air can get in, or take a colder shower.
  6. We have been on one of those 14 day cruises, in the Caribbean. Two, one week loops. The menu did not repeat. Papa Yoda is right, put in your request at dinner the previous night.
  7. Ruby is one year newer. They're the same class of ship. If your travel days work out better one over the other, there's your answer. If you've sailed with Princess before, check the sticky at the top to see if any senior staff are to your liking. Doesn't explain difference in price unless sailing includes a holiday.
  8. 5. Just to clarify, the walls of the cabin are sheet steel. Magnets attach your daily schedule and other papers you might want in easy view. A magnetic hook for a hat is a good idea. Bring binoculars or monocular with attachment to your phone for pix, if not a good camera.
  9. Well then, going back to your original post, what would you propose? We live two hours drive from Baja California. Let me assure you, the Spanish language is not obscure, but used daily and thriving.
  10. Totally agree with you. Binoculars on a cruise is worth the baggage volume it takes. My standards are pretty high on optics. I got lucky and found an older model at a garage sale. So, you might consider Craigslist, or whatever works in your area; a secondhand purchase. It's not like they wear out. I have seen monoculars with an attachment for your cell phone. I cannot attest to the quality. But to take photos, a mounting bracket would be worth checking into.
  11. Lido means public open pool. Promenade means a public waterfront walkway. Sports, Sky, pretty easy. Baja, to come down. Dolphin, a mooring place. Aloha, hello and goodby. Words are more descriptive and helpful than solely numbering decks, but no one pays attention.
  12. Not necessarily. I just prefer a good story and acting over explosions, or mayhem. Matter of taste. I went to the (first run) theater last week. Didn't choose the one about a drugged bear, it was about relationships.
  13. Agree. If they remade, "The Caine Mutiny," scene for scene, line for line, modern CGI would be so much better than the model work, but how would you find that many great actors?
  14. Look at it the other way around, it's not for you to justify your purchase to us, it's for Princess to justify the value to you. For example, is it worth $40 for Medallion shipping and holder or might you just as well pick it up with included lanyard at the pier? If you feel it's right, then go ahead. Personally, we wouldn't buy it. Mostly because we don't drink and that's a biggie.
  15. Agree. Someone curates what they show, but what to pick from? Princess demographic is an older crowd. I don't believe they take that into account. Not much we care to watch onboard and suprised some shows don't make onboard that would be a better fit.
  16. Depends on the sea. Practically unnoticable in calm. We've been in an Alaska storm and seen waves up to the window on deck 5. Whether the RCL Oasis, or the upcoming Disney ship, what was to be the Global Dream, any ship is a child's toy compared to the power of the sea. We tend to forget that when we cruise, but it is so. We always bring an antihistamine, such as Benadryl, (diphenhydramine.) It takes little space, but answers for several issues, seasickness, hypersensitive reaction to sunburn, dermatitis, allergies and as a sleep aid.
  17. This topic was covered recently. You can query the search box, but will answer you here too. Alaskan cruises start in May. We have stayed in a forward facing (obstructed view) cabin on the Royal's sister Regal (L104). It was a metal, not glass railing, for person of average height, it is not a problem. It is asked not to open the door while the ship is moving, also to draw the drapes at night because of the light to the bridge below. We would not book this type of cabin again, though it was a big cabin and a good price. We just don't like mega-ships. That said, the Majestic has some different than the usual eateries for Princess, leaning toward Asian food. You post about the Oasis, so if you enjoy things mega-ships offer, you will enjoy either. We prefer nature viewing in Alaska, so on Princess, we look for Alaska sailings on the Sapphire, then Coral, Grand a third choice. If you just want to hang out in the buffet, ( Not judging, some do.) then the Royal Class ships would be a better choice.
  18. Good observation @c-boy.This thread was interesting reading, learning about comparisons of service fees on different lines, who actually received the amounts collected and government tax laws... When discussion falls to stating fallacies, what's the point.
  19. Think of Club Fusion as a venue that also happens to have a bar, if it's being used for an event. Explorer's is same deck nearby; a popular watering hole. Likewise Crooners, quite popular. Skywalkers is our favorite, but at that hour is often used for Platinium, Suite, Elite Happy Hour.
  20. Don't like the duvet either. We always request a sheet and blanket on the first day.
  21. Other threads have noted, also our experience, that prices visible to you and I are not the prices the CVP sees or can book. If you in fact receive a bona fide refare, do let us know.
  22. Don't see how they can take away trading the mini bar for Coffee "cards." Not claiming knowledge of policy. Following with interest as this is what we do.
  23. Perhaps not with traveling with kids as a qualifier, but since Skywalkers was removed from the Grand, Sapphire's Skywalkers is great for Alaska sightseeing.
  24. Post #2 here is from someone who stayed in B750. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/22975-cp-baja-deck-cabin-b750/
  25. Someone may know, but Google imaging the stern of the Caribbean Princess, there doesn't appear anything that would be impeding your view. Seems like what Princess labels Obstructed View is, in some cases, a very minor thing, such as a solid non-glass railing, a flagpole... B750 does not even appear in the obstructed view section of Cruisedeckplans.com
