Rotterdam Upsell.

We just got home from our cruise on Rotterdam. We loved it.

First, the ship was in great shape. No maintenance issues. Good food and great service. We dined mostly in the PG and the Lido. Never visited the MDR.

Second, our upsell. We originally booked an SB about a year ago for $2499. After a couple of price drops, we transferred out booking to a TA who gave us an 8% discount. Our cabin was then priced at $1574. All prices are per person and do not include Taxes, etc.

About two weeks before our cruise, out TA forwarded an upsell offer to a Pinnacle Suite for $1649. We did not take this offer. The Monday before departure, out TA forwarded another offer of $749 PP to a Pinnacle Suite. We took this offer.

Our total cabin cost, excluding taxes and port fees, was $2323 PP for a Pinnacle Suite.

The suite was wonderful but we believe it was a one time thing. We probably wouldn't do something similar again.

BTW, we were met at the terminal and escorted aboard. In fact, we were the first persons aboard.

Funny thing. We had booked first class airfare to Tampa costing about $1600. The airlines notified us that due to maintenance issues, we would not make our connection in Charlotte. This on Saturday before our Sunday cruise. We cancelled our flights and received a complete refund. We drove to Tampa. The cancellation of the flights paid for our upsell and then a bit.

Wow, this all sounds great! So glad to hear you had no problems on the Rotterdam, we'll be sailing her for 38 days this summer.

A friend just returned from the Rotterdam (probably the same cruise) and also had very good things to say -- all except for the Pinnacle Grill -- they didn't have a good experience in several visits. Glad to hear you had no issues. :)

Tell us more about what it was like in the Pinnacle Suite - what was having that much private space like. Did you spend most of your time there, or did you feel more disconnected to the rest of the ship if you did?

I love the Neptune Suites and the grand suites on the Prinsendam which is where we rarely ever left our cabin since we enjoyed that space so much. But I have always wondered if there in fact is too much space in the Pinnacle Suite. Or on a cruise particularly where there were few at-sea days to enjoy its built in comforts.

We did the Sel Del Mer where we had the lobster tails. Excellent.

On the first night, we did the PG. I had the lamb chops which were OK but not great. Wife had the crab and it was really good. Enough for two. Big crab legs.

On the third night, we did the PG again. I had the NY Strip which was OK. Wife had the filet which was very good.

On the fifth night, I had the filet and it was very good. Wife had the eggplant and loved it.

My complaint about Holland is the wine list. Very few good choices. We did have a Caymus (anniversary). $96 but it's $74 at total wine so not too bad.

Very nice. Sounds like you had a great time :)

Great to hear and congrats on the PS upsell. A suite deal indeed.

We've only done the PS twice - both upsells and not expected to re-occur, but in both scenarios, we were escorted on the ship as well. Quite nice ;)

We love the Pinnacle Suites.

Glad you got a good deal on one of them. You are fortunate you can drive to a port.

How long was your cruise? What were your ports? Hoe did you enjoy them?

Seven day western caribbean. We did Costa Maya, Santo Thomas, Mahogany Bay, and Cozumel. We've been to those several times. We only got off in Cozumel to buy some T Shirts.

All I meant was this. If offered the same deal on our next Holland cruise, we would probably decline. It was one of those things you would want to do one time.

Good to read your experience. I sail the same itinerary on the Rotterdam in a couple of weeks! However, I'll be slumming it on deck 1 in an oceanview...;p;p;p

You'll have a great cruise. In fact, this was the smoothest ride we've ever had. Almost no motion on the ship at all. Very comfortable. And, she's in great shape. We especially enjoyed the Crow's Nest. It's the old fashioned kind with no Excursions, just comfortable seating and a great view.
