jayscore Posted September 22, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 22, 2009 My guess is some folks don't want to admit they are in their "fabulous fifties", or beyond.;)
Rare LHT28 Posted September 22, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 22, 2009 Most questions or experiences would apply to most people not just over 55. Not sure what would be different for those over 55 that is not applicable to most cruisers
sept10dsm Posted September 22, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 22, 2009 Most questions or experiences would apply to most people not just over 55. Not sure what would be different for those over 55 that is not applicable to most cruisers the only thing I know of is discounts on some lines on some cruises. Nothing else that I know of so not much to discuss.
cb at sea Posted September 23, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 23, 2009 Most folk's comments or questions have nothing to do with being a certain age....
orchestrapal Posted September 23, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 23, 2009 Most of us of a certain age have already established loyalty to one or two cruise lines and contribute to their boards. The questions and answers on this board seem very generic.:)
Wendy The Wanderer Posted September 24, 2009 #8 Share Posted September 24, 2009 I think it's because, by and large, cruisers are, in fact, over 50. I know on the line that I frequent (Regent), the average age is 56, and depending on the length of the itinerary can go up to 70. So there's nothing special here. sail7seas Posted October 21, 2009 #9 Share Posted October 21, 2009 I don't see any thing age specific on the ships. There are 65 year old taking kayak and scuba excursions and age is irrelevant to agility and state of mind/health. If one is fit, being 55 or 40 is all the same in terms of cruising IMO In all the years I've come to CC, I've never onced looked in on this forum until now. Didn't there would be anything particularly relevant other than a discussion of whether U.S. Medicare pays medical bills outstide the country of something like that. That subject is discussed on other forums.

Gingee Posted October 23, 2009 #11 Share Posted October 23, 2009 Now that I am "that age", I can come to this part but as others have mentioned, what is different?
Rare MMDown Under Posted October 23, 2009 #12 Share Posted October 23, 2009 I see this forum as a place seniors/grey nomads can raise and discuss cruising issues of relevance to people over 55.
cb at sea Posted October 23, 2009 #13 Share Posted October 23, 2009 What exactly is relevant to over 55...that's not relevent to others? It's not like 55 is "over the hill"!
Rare MMDown Under Posted October 23, 2009 #14 Share Posted October 23, 2009 What exactly is relevant to over 55...that's not relevent to others? It's not like 55 is "over the hill"! All throughout my life, I have joined groups, which were relevant to my current situation (teenager, pregnant, nursing mother, parent, school p & c, sports, etc.), to learn and grow. Now I'm interested in what people over 55 have to say. It is just another stage of life, that is all. I browse every so often, because I might learn something, or I might even be able to contribute. Dona March Posted November 20, 2009 #17 Share Posted November 20, 2009 First time I've been on here just never thought to look here I believed this to be about discounts and special pricing for Cruises....I have gotten good deals so far, so I saw no reason to come here I will check it out time to time..... Bette And Bill Posted November 21, 2009 #19 Share Posted November 21, 2009 I come here from time to time to see what is going on. I check out some threads here and in other areas. If we could find a topic we are all interested in at the same time, we might get something started. I also check out my future cruise threads and sometimes other areas. Most of the places I am interested in, I have bookmarked and automaticly go there when I get the email. I do keep hoping there will be something going on here. And see you posted a question and we are all responding.:D

I guess that why I don't look here to often and then when I do I can't remember what I was going to ask anyway. lol We are leaving for our first cruise on 1/16/10 on Carnival going to the western Caribbean. We are just as excited about this as some of the younger ones that are going.:cool:
Flinstones Posted January 11, 2010 #22 Share Posted January 11, 2010 I'm not sure what the difference is for a cruiser from age 0-55 or a cruiser from age 55-dead. Cruising would be the same and age is just a state of mind. Personally, I'm just over the age of 55 but I prefer the younger crowd.
Cruise4Sunshine Posted June 26, 2010 #23 Share Posted June 26, 2010 Having just entered the new category for most questionnaires, age group: 55-64, check, I have a lot of questions. What cruise lines GIVE discounts to over 55? Does that translate to onboard amenities or excursions? Do I have to let my hair go gray to fit aboard these ship? Will my discount apply to my bunk mate, even though they are not in this uber-special category? What really IS the best part of this age category? clackey Posted July 4, 2010 #24 Share Posted July 4, 2010 Seems a huge number or cruisers are over 55 but I seldom see a lot of activity here. I think that it is because most old people are not computer literate. Then there are those who dislike change. (That is the way their parents did it and that is how they are going to do it). I just gave my closest friend my old computer. It is his first one and he just turned 59.
WineCountryCruiser Posted July 5, 2010 #25 Share Posted July 5, 2010 I think that it is because most old people are not computer literate. Then there are those who dislike change. (That is the way their parents did it and that is how they are going to do it). I just gave my closest friend my old computer. It is his first one and he just turned 59. The key word is "most". I just turned 65 and DW and I have cruised since 2005. I'm a self-employed computer specialist (lost my "regular" job in 1993 and finally gave up trying to find a new "regular" job) and find that there is a surprisingly large group of computer users in the 55+ category. If others are like me, they focus on the roll call threads and don't spend much time checking out the other threads. Fortunately, I found this thread and will periodically check it out! I'm hoping to retire in a year or so. That's a mixed blessing in that I'll have a lot more time for cruising BUT not so much money to pay for it.
