Debde Posted February 20, 2010 #176 Share Posted February 20, 2010 Probably for the same reason that I am breathing in the noxious fumes from your cheap cologne. Because it's there. :p OMG LOL Is it me or I've often wondered if some perfumes/cologne are toxic!!:p Now that's unhealthy!!! LOL
MrPete Posted February 20, 2010 #177 Share Posted February 20, 2010 YES!!! And tell me once again, why am I breathing in your filthy second hand smoke from across the deck???? I take it you only sail on wind powered ships to avoid that BIG SMOKING THING way up top?
sandij Posted February 20, 2010 #178 Share Posted February 20, 2010 I have to vote NO, I don't smoke but my honey does and if he can't smoke we don't go and I like to cruise way too much.
Jimnbigd Posted February 20, 2010 #179 Share Posted February 20, 2010 For me it was posts like #95 by GONZO70 and #160 by AKCRUZ and just recently #168 by Jimnbigd that look at compromise and not a total ban as the best solution.Exactly. I really don't know the best answer, but I sure would like to give my money to the ship's casino without someone coming up and blowing smoke in my face. I'm not trying to tell people not to smoke -- at least, not in this forum. (I think we all know that smoking is not very healthy -- but then neither are the 5 appetizers and 2 entrees I order each night in the MDR.) Well, maybe as ships get larger and have larger areas for casinos and such, there will be more non-smoking areas. I hope so for both the smoker and non-smoker's sake -- a win-win situation I would think. And, to the vast majority of smokers who respect the non-smoking areas -- Thank you. BroncosFan2010 Posted February 20, 2010 #180 Share Posted February 20, 2010 As a non-smoker, and being married to someone with a very significant allergy to smoke, I voted for a complete ban. Smoking is so bad for your health, annoying to be around, and can ruin the taste of food/drink for the smoker and the people around them. I understand that it is an addiction (I am a therapist and a certified addictions counselor), but most smokers want to quit anyway, and their bodies are just simply addicted. Vacations are usually non-stressful and packed with fun distractions. Perhaps if ships were non-smoking it would be a great place for people to kick the habit! Tobacco smoke can be a very powerful irritant to those with certain health issues and/or certain allergies but, tobacco smoke an allergen on it's own? No way, not buying it..... I'm surprised a certified addictions counselor would recommend smokers hop on a non-smoking cruise ship as a way to kick the habit - I couldn't think of a worse method of treatment to inflict on a smoker. Mind you, if one was to fill a non-smoking cruise ship with smokers, the ensuing entertainment would be extraordinary...at least until the mutiny. :D

There is no way that I would want to be on this cruise with all those withdrawing nicotine addicts. I was one of them and I can assure you it is not pleasant. Having been a smoker myself, I would vote for smoking areas on a ship that are completely cut off from other public areas. LET THEM SMOKE. It's up to them. Rare cruiselvr04 Posted February 20, 2010 #185 Share Posted February 20, 2010 No one is going to "win" this debate. Smokers can't just quit for a week and there are alot of them out there. RCCL is not going to ban them and their money. We don't use the casino because of the smoke or any bar that allows it. Period. Even on smoke free nights in the casiono the stale smell is there. I'm glad they have banned it in cabins and most public areas. We try to walk on the side of the pool deck that is non-smoking and hate it when our balcony neighbors smoke. However it is part of the world and you can't really escape it. There are lots of things in this world that I would like to change that would make it a better place but this is pretty far down the list. By the way I don't hate smokers - just don't exhale it my way please.

Gonzo70 Posted February 20, 2010 #189 Share Posted February 20, 2010 Tobacco smoke can be a very powerful irritant to those with certain health issues and/or certain allergies but, tobacco smoke an allergen on it's own? No way, not buying it..... It depends on the definition of "allergy" that is used. There is more than one acceptable definition of what constitutes an allergy. Smoking is either an irritant or an allergen depending on which definition one uses. Basically it is arguing semantics - the impact is same no matter what definition and term is used. beachnative Posted February 20, 2010 #192 Share Posted February 20, 2010 YES, do ban ALL smoking on the ship. I originally posted with a "No" but after reading many of the smokers comments I have changed my mind...therefore...please subtract one "NO" and add one "YES". John Henry on CC Posted February 20, 2010 #193 Share Posted February 20, 2010 There is no way in HADES that I am going to read 10 pages of a smokers vs non-smokers debate, but here is my reaction to the question:' Did you ever hear the adage, "You are cutting off your nose to spite your face?" I originally posted with a "No" but after reading many of the smokers comments I have changed my mind...therefore...please subtract one "NO" and add one "YES". I feel the same about all the comments made by the non-smokers - uncalled for in most cases, and some people are just downright rude. And I guess that's how it will always be! You will agree with and lean towards the comments that are made by those on "your" side and will be angry or upset with those on the "other" side.:( It's all about "me" for some people who have no consideration for others (and I don't mean that personally about you). I don't understand why people don't quit. I know it is hard but trust me dying of lung (my dad did ) or throat cancer (my father in law did ) is much harder.:( Hubby used to smoke and he used the patch and it worked really well for him.
