Hi Linda

Have a great time! I haven't got around to scanning the compasses and port guides yet, but you'll need a detailed map of Ibiza town. The 'port' guide only provides a map of the whole island!

If there's anything else I can help with let me know.

Thanks Pete - I will look up a map of the town;)

I can see a picture of the Gare Maritime Toulon in your photos - forgive me for being stupid, but is this a train station or a Ferry Station? I ask as the boat link website that Daliflor posted is saying that the Gare Maritime is closed, so I am wondering if that translates as no boats doing the harbour shuttle?? This is what it says on the website:

Perturbations sur la ligne 8M - Toulon - La Seyne

Du 26/05 au 07/06 : Fermeture accueil commercial gare maritime

Fermeture EXCETIONNELLE de l'accueil commercial

de la gare maritime du port de Toulon

du 26 mai au 7 juin 2010

Gare Maritime is a ferry station, but I think some of the smaller 'shuttle' type connections go into the marina.

Is the Ibiza town shuttle bus free?
Nope, unfortunately $12 per person return! Bit a high price IMHO for the length of journey. Maybe worth asking how much in a taxi, there'll be loads just outside the dock gates.

Absolutely - it's petty things like this that are making us start to think about looking at other cruise lines  The only free shuttles we've ever had are those run by the port eg at Civitavecchia

By the way, does anyone know if there's a nice beach in Seyne sur Mer? After a hectic week it may be nice just to relax on a beach, rather than paying yet another $12 pp just to be shuttled into Toulon

Bobal, take a look at this bus map - there are lots of busses that leave from Seyne sur Mer port area. I may look to take the bus to the station and then the train to Cassis, or just get on one of the busses that cruises the coast.;)

You can get a 1 day :pbus ticket for Eur 3.90!!

I have made a decision!

I am going to get either bus 70/71 from Seyne port to Plage Bonnegrace

http://www.reseaumistral.com/ftp//img_plan/ligne_bus/Plan_Ligne_71.pdf

http://www.reseaumistral.com/ftp/img_lignes/070%202009%2003.pdf

P/s you can also get these same busses in the opposite direction to Toulon!!!;)

Excellent info Daliflor - thanks for posting. I am on the same cruise as you June 3rd on AOS.

I am guessing this is easily walkable from where the ship docks.

BTW, for info, I read on your link that the Gare Maritime in Toulon will be closed during our day in Toulon in case you are planning on venturing further afield.

Linda

Hello, Linda!

Yes, we are aware - thank you for the reminder.

We are actually planning on using the train from Seyna Sur-Mer (Train Station is about 2-3 km away from the port area) to Cannes and then to Cassis

(and will return on the train to Seyne Sur-Mer as well).

Gare SNCF address: Chemin de la Petite Garenne - 83500 La Seyne-sur-Mer, France

BTW - Our previous Roll Call (cruised back in April 2010 on EOTS) was a great source of info though I "discovered" it less than one week before departure.

Truby, one of the fellow cruisers, inspired us to research ahead of time, so now we do have contingency plans.

FYI - The train from Seyne Sur-Mer to Toulon is a quick ride - about 4 minutes (runs approx. every 30 min or so) - and the 2nd class ticket is 1.50 €/pax.

Yes, there are couple of options (including Linda's sugestion above); most of the closest beaches are located in Toulon (i.e. Plage du Mourillon very close to the port area), Bandol (main beaches here: The Plage du Lido, Plage du Casino and the Plage de Rènecros), Sanary-sur-mer and Six Fours les Plages .

It's easy to Google any of them for specific details that interest you, including how to get there from Seyne-sur-mer.

Excellent info, so thank you!:)

There hasn't really been any rollcalls for the last few 4nighters that I have done so I confess I only came across it by chance yesterday...

Plus we are booked with BA and with all their strikes I just wasn't sure if we were going to get there, so I really only became enthusiastic once I knew our flights were confirmed.

Great info Daliflor, thank you!

Have you guys decided what to do in Cagliari and Ajaccio?

Have you been to the Napoleon museum in Ajaccio? What did you think?

Cagliari is lovely, but not huge. We were there on the Navigator in June 2008, when the beautiful jacaranda trees are in bloom.

As you walk from the dock into town, bear to the left and up the avenue lined with jacaranda trees. After 600mt you will come see a square with tables and umbrellas in front of you.

From here you can take a horse & carriage tour of the upper street of Calgliari, or if you look to your left you will see an ornate green iron clad bus stop where you can get the local minibus to the citadel at the top of the town. I cannot remember the bus number, but I think there was a map at the bus stop. You buy tickets (1 Euro pp) at the newspaper kiosk across the street.

We had a lovely helpful driver who told us where to get off at the citadel and pointed in the directlon of the walk through alleys and pretty streets with churches, schools and lookouts back down to town. It's a lovely walk of 1.5km.

We did try and walk up the hill when we first arrived in Cagliari but be warned it gets really steep!!

Back in town we visited the cafes and shops near the square and along the arches by the waterfront.

It's a nice way to spend a very pleasant 3-4hrs.

Pete, do you think this is a recent change in the rules as I am fairly sure we were not charged this VAT on our Navigator cruise in June 2008 which visited Marseille, Cagliari and Palermo (All EU ports) on a round-trip Bracelona?

Linda :)

or maybe it just wasn't quite so obvious on the receipts then!:p

Thank you very much for the info Linda, I think we'll probably follow your good indications and enjoy an easy day in Cagliari. Hubby speaks Italian quite fluently, so it'll be easy to figure out the buses and directions.

Pete,

Do you recall what's in the Diamond voucher booklet? I hear they have cut back a lot on what you get...

I am particularly looking for wine purchase vouchers (discount on 2nd bottle?) and internet usage.

Did you get the ice show tickets because your were Diamond?

It will be interesting for me as I am diamond but my mum is not, so I am not sure how this will work out. When I was on the Vision last year they allowed me to take my mum to one of the diamond evening cocktail events.

Wondering about the ice show. I've not sailed RCI so I have no clue how it works. Sounds to me like if you're Diamond they bring you tickets in your cabin, if not you need to stand in line for tickets at a given time, right? Other folks have said if you don't feel like standing in line you can still get in on show day? I'm confused.

When I was on the Navigator, I think we just tried our luck and turned up and had no problem getting seats. That was before I was Diamond:)

It's a great show!

I would be very surprised if there are absolutely no seats left on the day. The only thing is that if you have a ticket they will let you in and you can find a seat where you want. If you don't have a ticket they will make you wait until the show is about to start and they know there are seats available. It seems to be a badge of honour with some people that they get there early and get the front row seats  but Studio B is steeply ramped anyway so you will get a good view wherever you sit.

As for queuing for tickets, there are always enough tickets to go round so it's up to you whether to queue or not, once they start handing them out the line moves quickly and any tickets which are left over are placed on the purser's desk for people to pick up.

Do not miss the ice show - it's spectacular :)

Hi Linda

Not sure how new this is, but it was charged when we sailed Brilliance in 2005.

HI Linda, they have cut back a lot. From what I remember there is a discount on bottle of wine purchase over $100 and another one related to purchasing a bottle over $50, but didn't take too much notice as I dodn't intend spending that amount on a bottle of wine! There is also a discount for Dom Perignon.

There's a coupon for the following:

Buy 1 glass of wine get 1 free

2 for 1 milkshakes in Johnny Rockets

1 free Seattle's Best speciality coffee

3 coupons for $3 slot pulls in the casino

$10 Internet credit (charge for internet has increased to 65c per minute)

Discount off a 'lifestyle portrait'

Free coffee when buying a special mug

Several for $5 match play in the casino

There may have been more, but not of much interest to us.

They do a laundry special on 1 day, all you can get into the supplied bag for $25, not much use on a 4 night cruise IMHO, especially on day 2!

Yes, apparently we got the ice show tickets, well more like a pass as they were valid for any performance, in our cabin with the Diamond welcome letter which also told us about the Diamond event daily in the 19th Hole and the Diamond breakfast in the La Notte dining room.

Yes, it would now appear that if you are Diamond (and up and in suites I presume) you get Ice Show 'passes' (they are not for a specific performance, but state you can attend any) in your cabin.

On the first day on the Royal Promenade near the Cafe Promenade they were issuing the tickets for every performance. I also believe you can get them from Guest Relations according to the Compass.
