We're on Epic! What do you want to know?

This is probably a ridiculous question, and if you can't answer it that's more than okay, but I was wondering if the stateroom televisions (specifically the studio TVs) have RCA (video/audio) inputs (red/yellow/white) for hooking up, say, a laptop or Playstation. I'd be surprised if they didn't since most TVs come standard with that, but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Morning all,

I got off the ship yesterday morning and attended a travel agent conference in Southampton straight from there -- it's been a hectic few days!

The ship is now on its TA, and as it went past the windows of the conference centre yesterday evening (we were at the QEII Terminal in Southampton), it sounded it's horn!

I will not be able to answer some of the questions as they came in too late for me, but I will try my best to find out for you, I promise!

I am going to start uploading more photos today (it was hard to do from the ship as you can imagine), and please be patient over the next few days as I try to answer as many questions as I can!

Happy Friday! :)

As promised, here are some cabin photos from Epic:

The first two photos are the deluxe balcony cabin (11077), which sleeps up to three guests, with the sofa bed expanding into a bed.

Over on our U.K. blog we have been discussing the cabin concept and the facilities, so do take a look: http://cruisecriticuk.wordpress.com/2010/06/23/epics-deluxe-balcony-aka-the-mini-suite/

Below are some photos of an accessible balcony cabin (11271) -- this shows the wet room bathroom and the large balcony. The cabin has plenty of room for a wheelchair and the sink and cabinets are lower down. It also features vibrating alarm clocks and Braille text on notices.

I know this photo is a little dark, but I was able to sneak a peek into a family balcony cabin on Deck 12, and actually see how the fourth bed works. It pulls down from above and acts as bunk bed.

On the subject of family cabins, there were a few questions on connecting cabins -- there is a door inside the cabin (near the balcony door) which links the two. This way you can sleep up to eight (would be a bit of a squeeze in my opinion) between the two cabins. Afraid I didn't see any cabins with balcony partitions pulled back.

That looks awful and what a lot of fuss to have to do every day. These rooms are clearly for 2 passengers.

It is not quite so awful when you know what you are getting into. And this photo sure helps. For you the cabin may clearly be for 2 passengers, it certainly is not if you have a third or fourth that you have to bring along.

I'm sorry what I meant was that these cabins certainly seem very tight for 2 let alone 3 or 4.

Is it much much cheaper to have 4 in a room rather than 2 rooms ? I really have no idea of the saving involved.

These cabins are great compared to previous ships. We do not have to option to afford a cruise and get a suite. We bring along our children and have been in much smaller cabins. Balconies have not been available on many NCL ships for 4 people. This will be our first and for the price of an ocean view on most ships.

On the Dawn the ocean view was three beds in a row with a pullyman over one. On the Sky the two beds in the middle were mostly covered with 2 pullyman beds over top.

This cabin look like luxury to those of us economy cruisers. We do not spend much time in the cabin and save our money for other parts of the cruise so to have bunks next to us and a balcony is amazing.

Guess it is all a matter of perspective.

The Jewel has the same setup for the 4th person and my daughters loved it. They took turns every night to sleep on the top bunk. A a matter of fact they're fighting already who gets to sleep on top when we go and our cruise isn't until March/11!

Just look at it this way, you aren't the one making the beds! Yeah...that is your cabin stewards job! :)

We have 3 in our group and when my son was 3 (now 11) the Carnival cruise we took, the bed pulled off the side wall and flipped down above our beds. It worked, I slept on top for fear of my son falling off at that age. But I didn't have to make it nor put it up. That's what I love about cruising...do whatever or not! ;)

are they very spacious and do they offer special showers, etc.

Thank you.

I sell travel to people that are disabled./

Thank you.

Hi echevarriatravel,

Yes, I posted two photos of the accessible cabins this morning (see page nine of thread) - hope this helps you?

From the views I heard from others touring the cabin, they were impressed with the size and layout, and I would have to agree, they seem spacious and definitely roomy enough for a wheelchair.

Need to know about what table games are at the casino....

Do they have Let It Ride and Poker?

Trying to find out for you -- I didn't see when I was onboard, sorry - but it is by far the largest casino I have seen on a ship, so I expect it will have a huge variety! Will let you know if I find out more :)

Hi Kelly!

Question is regarding the Aqua Park. I will be traveling with my 1 1/2 year old and while in no way would I attempt to bring her into the "big people" pool with swim diapers. (I didn't even go in there myself when I didn't have a kid.) Anyways, will there be places for her to splash around in besides the 1 tiny pool with the slide?

AND Did they "quarantine" the adults with kids to an area where you can't even feel like you're a part of the fun? My daughter loves to dance and would probably enjoy herself a lot more if she could hear the band while splashing around. So would her parents. :D

Thanks for any input!!!!

Tina

Hi,

I spoke to a deck steward who said that a child can go with the parent to the main pool, but there is no splash pool near there. The dedicated pool area for youngsters is the one behind the aqua park. There were only a handful of children on our cruise (since it was a pre-inaugural event), and all were in the children's pool. There are sunbeds close by, so it's not too bad, but the band area is at the other end of the pool deck.

See the below photo (ignore the workmen!):

Already booked on the Epic for Feb 2011. Thanks so much for your information. I have 2 questions. Can't wait to see your pictures

1) It looks like in the layout of the rooms that you step out of the shower into the foyer of the room. Is this right?

2) Can you list the restaurants on board that have a surcharge?

Hi, I am sure you have already seen our comments so far regarding the shower and bathroom areas!

As for the restaurants that have a charge, here you go:

Cagney's Steakhouse - $25 per person

Moderno Churrascaria - $18 per person

Le Bistro - $20 per person

La Cucina - $10 per person

Shanghai's - $15 per person

Wasabi - a la carte pricing

Teppanyaki - $25 per person

Spiegel Tent - $15 for Cirque Dreams; $15 for Nickelodeon character breakfast ($10 for children age 4-12)

dalgal -- funny you should ask... We have just launched our video from Norwegian Epic a few moments ago!

Carolyn Spencer Brown, Cruise Critic's editor in chief, and Klaus Lugmaier, Epic's hotel director, take a grand tour of the brand-new ship!

Enjoy! http://www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfm?ID=1133

Hi Kelly,

Loving the photos and the video Carolyn has made is fab! Just sat watching it and really enjoyed it.

My question now though is, I see the casino is really HUGE and spreads over a vast area with restaurants etc seeming to go off it as you travel along?

Is that correct and if so will the casino therefore be non smoking?

Only I think i saw Carolyn walk straight into possibly Wasabi, can't quite remember which restaurant now , from the casino.

The escalator is also obviously open and goes straight into the casino from the lower atrium area, i'm thinking about smoke travelling etc??.

Many thanks

Sam :)

(woo hoo my countdown has already gone down over a 100 days :D - apologies, tad excited at realising that!)

Thanks for posting all the info. on the family balconies, I am still a little worried about how safe it is to have some one sleeping under that pullman on a pull out sofa though. We have been on RC cruises before and used the pullmans, but I was the one sleeping under it, not my daughter.

FINGERS CROSSED (but not holding my breath ;)) a non-smoking casino on NCL would truly be EPIC!! I love that about the casinos on Celebrity.
