Thank you for this. We are mulling this over. Frank called today to inquirer about the composition of the premium package for our room. $100.00 will buy a 1 ultra. Botttle of glennfiddich or other premium liquor plus 6 cans of mixers and serving items. For $80, change to Dewars. We think it's a tad steep.

Hi,

Agreed when you compare with what you pay from a liquor store.

However, a measured whisky (2 oz?) costs around $8 from a bar on the ship. You should be able to get around 16 measures from a bottle - 16 *8 = $128.

If someone can provide me with another way to share this for D/L I will post it again now that Megaupload is seized.

Thank you so much for this!! It was EXACTLY what we needed to decide about the beverage package. :)

IMO, these packages are all way too expensive.

For example, let's say I want a couple of sodas during the day and a six pack of beer at night (I will probably drink a little less than this but I think it's a good example), you are looking at a total bill of about $238 (6*$5*7 plus 2*$2*7). The classic package is $308!

I really don't see the benefit in these packages unless I plan on pouring back a 12 pack or something every night.

All depends on what you drink. I bought the premium package for $391 including 15% service charge for 7 nights. Typical day would be coffee and baileys or mimosa or bloody mary in the morning, a cocktail while getting dressed for dinner (with Grey Goose vodka), a martini or two (at $11.50 each with service charge) wine pairings with dinner and a nightcap either on the balcony or at the casino. I figured my total for that to be $69 per day or $483 for the week, so I'll get my money's worth. And then there is soda, good coffee and bottled water every day.

Now my husband will drink one beer per day and maybe a glass of wine two or three times per week. No drink package for him.

We had the Premium package on our last Solstice cruise W. Carib for 7 days and it was great. Now doing the 12 day from Barcelona and trying to decide with such a port intensive itinerary is it worth it, my head says no, but my liver says "bring it", any thoughts ?

We did 12 day Med cruise from Barcelona last Sept... drink package definitely worth it. On port days I had my lattes for breakfast, bottled water to take to port, then we got back from port at 5:00pm and had a couple of drinks at Oceanview bar for "sail away" from the port. Then, since we had late dining, still had time for pre-dinner cocktail, then couple of glasses of wine with dinner, and after dinner drinks. So, you see it is quite easy to get $$ out of drink package on port days!

Sccat - please excuse yet more alcohol package related questions, but as you have had recent experience of the classic alcohol package, are you able to tell me if any sparkling water is included in this package? Also, are Irish Coffees included, and do you by any chance know if the Celebrity sparkling wine is available, by the glass, within this package i.e. $8 a glass? Your help is greatly appreciated! Many thanks. :)

Sparkling water is NOT included in the Classical Pkg. Irish coffees are included. I'm not positive about the Celebrity Sparkling wine being included. I believe it was $7 a glass when I was onboard in Sept and so it was included in the Classic. Might be different pricing in 2012. The Prossecco was $7 and very nice. That was usually my pre-dinner aperitif!

Nailed it.

We got the premium package and made out like bandits. Large bottles of Evian throughout the day and at least 2 at dinner for the table. A few drinks during the day and some more in the evening. At least one Cafe Americano in the morning and even some more coffee with Bailey's in the evening.

Slam dunk good deal for us.

Scat, many thanks for your reply - shame about the sparkling water but an Irish Coffee and Prossecco will do me just fine! Cheers! :)

If you are just a beer drinker who also has an occasional water or soda, then the package is probably not the right choice. Beer tends to be the least expensive drinking option anywhere you go. And if you take into account the discount on buckets, beer is an even better value. When onshore, you can easily find beers 2 for $6. So unless you are a mixed drink/wine drinker, the package probably isn't for you.

Just off the Millennium for a 7 day in Alaska. We purchased the premium drink package. I loved it. In 7 days, i had 88 drinks that were on the final bill. It was well worth it. I would run to cafe cove first thing in the am in sweats and a t shirt, and grab a latte. I would grab a large water for the excursions, wine in the afternoon and drinks at night. It was great to order different drinks that I normally would not try since I didn't have to worry about the final bill. I only felt any attitude from the server at dinner. He just didn't seem to want to get me a second glass of wine. I learned to swing by the bar on the way into dinner, that way I had a glass and could order a second one at dinner.

Thank you, NC. I was curious about ordering wine by the glass in the dining room and having the sommelier or waiter giving you a hard time about ordering more than one glass. Did anybody else who purchased the beverage package experience any attitude from the dining room staff when requesting two or more glasses of wine?

When we were on the Summit last year, if we ordered wine, the bottle was left near the table at the waiter's station or on ice. When the glass was low or empty, it was cheerfully refilled. No problems whatsoever. Same with poolside service or in lounges. They would occasionally come around and see if another drink was needed. The convenience, even before the $$ factor, made the package worth it. We definitely came out ahead by getting the package!

We were on Solstice on November and no problems at all. Sommeliers and cocktail waiters in MDR came to us right away and asked what we would like to have. We usually had different wine for every course and aperitive. Seemed that they were more than happy to serve customers with premium package.

We are going back to Solstice on June and will have premium package again.

I concur. Our sommolier was so attentive, there were times I had to ask him to stop pouring so frequently or I would not be able to stand up after dinner! Hope our experience is the same next month on Silhouette.

If anything I had the opposite .... the sommelier or waiter were usually rushing to re-fill the glass before I even asked! I usually liked to have a different wine with each course and NEVER had a problem getting another glass of wine. They were very accommodating!

Thank you SO much! Ooooh this is very good to know. I pre-bought the soda package, but now I'm going to cancel that and buy the next package (the classic non-alcoholic) package instead.

Thanks again from one java lover to another! :)

Have a great week!

Does anyone know what day is the last possible day to order the drink package on a 12 day cruise??

Trying to decide on if we will get half way thru...we cannot possibly drink 12 days straight

We usually get prem. non alcohol pkg....but...if we have 3 martinis with that...its almost break even......

What to do....

Although you can only order ONE glass at a time, not two, if that was the original question...

Hi,

Am new to cruise critic and have enjoyed this thread. I am sorry if this question has already been asked...lot's of pages to read.

If I buy a classic alchol package and then get on board and want to change to the premium package... is it possible to upgrade and pay the difference?

We are signed up for the april Equinox TA cruise.

Thanks,

Vicki
