Absolutely Mike:D

BTW I find it REFRESHING to discuss matters in which people can have differing opinions without resorting to name calling! I only wish others could lear to communicate in such a manner.

Freudian slip? A bathroom reference, perhaps? lol

That's why Epic "standard" balcony cabins are below industry standards.

Hi Lusitanica,

Great pictures, interesting review, to say the least (I have no idea why the attackson you) it's just your opinion ...

I'm really new to these boards and I'm just wondering why you only respond to select special reviewers.

... others have asked questions, that have gone unanswered (although you may have answered them, I may have missed it, many replies have been removed).

Here are my questions to you ...

Why did you want to go on the Epic? (for me, I was looking for the biggest casino at sea)

What did you like the most on the trip?

Was your room comp'ed & you just didn't like it? (I can't figure out why you went on a ship you appeared to be skeptical of ... CAS gives me my room, so the room is no issue)

Did you go on the Pud Crawl??? (I incorrectly responded to the ping-pong table picture ... if that was part of the pud crawl I'm in)

How was Howl at the Moon??? (I can't wait to spend late nights there)

Did you go to the ice bar??? (Only a few in the world, another reason why I wanted to go)

Did you go to the art auctions??? Do you buy art???

What was your favorite cruise ship ever???

I hope your answers will help me justify why I talked 10 other family members into cruising this ship.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

I have also sailed on close to 90 cruises on every line from Carnival to Silversea. This provides me with some experience to fairly quickly determine what is appealing and not appealing about certain ships (to me personally).

I followed your link to your pictures. First of all you do some really nice photography.

What I like about all the photos you have taken (in the dozen of galleries), and tying into this discussion is you have provided a way to visually see (and compare) what is being talked about. Thanks.

Oh yeah, one of the galleries provided me with a glimpse of what to expect on my upcoming cruise.[/b']

I'm glad you enjoyed them! I have a lot more from earlier cruises, but they are pre-digital age and require scanning and uploading. Too much work right now!

...By the way, I agree with that little blue LED. We covered them up. I used one of my daughter's stuffed animals. My wife used a towel (and it STILL shined through somewhat). Did you also notice that little green light on the AC control? I did because it was right over my head. It was even bright enough for you to navigate the room in the middle of the night.

For our cruise on Epic, I'm going prepared... I'm bringing tape to cover up all those little blue and green lights that glow all the time and brighten up the room at night when all the lights are out. DH and I like a dark room for sleeping.

take electrical tape. Those little lights are bright, and you need something the light won't pass through. You can also use it to repair any frayed wiring you come across :)

Remember to push the button on the phone to turn off the phone light as well - it's REALLY bright as well!

I'd like to thank the OP for his post. I learned a valuable lesson. He had misgivings before he sailed, only to be told that his concerns were not valid because he had not sailed Epic yet. So after he sailed Epic, he is accused of having an agenda. I agree that the review could have been more balanced. I doubt, though, that his detractors would be happy unless he posted a glowing review, expressed how wrong he was about everything, and apologized for his previous comments.

As one who has expressed concerns about the lack of privacy the bathrooms afford only to be told I can't know if I'll like it because I haven't experienced it yet, I most likely will not be posting a review when I return. I'm sure I'll have lots of things I like as well as some I don't about my cruise. But since I posted concerns in the past, if it turns out I really don't like the bathroom setup and post that, I'm sure that's all some here will focus on.

Hi SueSea - I for one would not attack someone for a negative review, but this is an exception. In fact, I find the different experiences and points of view interesting compared to my own experience. What you're seeing is more of a reaction to the OP than the message (for reasons well discussed). I would love to read your review - what you liked, what you didn't - if you decide to post it.

Happy cruising

Intrepid, have you ever gotten around to figuring out the square footage of your cabin? I would love to see your results.

Jingle

I added up the measurements (regardless what some people think about them)... length x width.... 30x8.5=255 tho NCL states it at 245.

I could be off a little either because of bulkheads behind the walls or because of the curves. I am not that fancy to be able to figure it out with the curves. Honestly, I got the room width by measuring the balcony width, so most likely the loss is in the cabin walls somewhere.

I feel like I'm talking to a wall.

How about this. The Epic balcony rooms exceed industry standards.

The bathroom layout allows easier use by more people at the same time

The storage in the rooms is exceptional, far above industry norms

The beds and bedding are of superior quality

The rooms are highly energy efficient, with door and light sensors to maximize "greenness"

There are refrigerators that work, and coffee machines in each room

The lighting options are superior, with ambient lighting, reading lamps, etc.

I don't consider the presence of a coffee table the definition of a living area, nor did I miss it. One less thing to run your shins into.

You and I could likely go on and on about this. The facts are, we have different opinions on the rooms and how they match up with the "standards" we each believe to be important. I can guarantee you if you calculate an industry average across 50 different measures for balcony rooms, the Epic room will be all over the board on how it compares to others, both positive and negative.

Since you clearly can't see the point I'm trying to make, I'm going to stop wasting people's monitor ink on this fruitless effort. Best regards.

You forgot to use the word "fact" that makes it all better.... for example....

I could offer a differing view... heh heh... as I live in a city! Even with "blackout" curtains, we cant keep the light from streetlights out, so those little nothing lights were just that... nothing to us.

OK... I give. You win Luisitanica. I hope you are happy.

I am not going to keep arguing your "facts". I hope you now feel happy and superior, because that is obviously what you want. Good for you.

I feel sorry for anyone that reads your axe-grinding (and over the top) review and takes it at face value. Sorry you chose to have such a bad time while I had a wonderfully memorable cruise on the EPIC. You have proven every theory you had prior to leaving, you are right and everyone else is wrong. Every word from your fingertips is a hard cold fact. Enjoy your big, fat victory.

Bye bye, now.

Where are yours, Lusitanica? In the photo below, from the Spirit (not my photo...someone else's), the bed 'seems' to be touching the cabinet. That's a lot LESS room than shows on the closed-curtain, dimmed-lights photo you found from EPIC.

I see that the bed is 75" down the middle, but there is also a 65" on the edge? Since I am 76" long, I don't see how this is going to work so well for me. If I could sleep in the middle, but the wife has not let me do that in the last 30 years. That leaves me either curled up (I can't sleep curled up) or hanging off the end of the bed by 11". I don't understand why NCL keeps messing with things, I get inovative but don't mess with the bed length!

 Doesn't even look like you can open the connecting room door. That looks smaller ... even smaller than 'other' rooms shown on this thread
