FRESH off the Indy and WE DID THE BOOZE PACK!

Have not been on any RC ship since 2009. I do not recall paying anywhere close to $11 for base house wine. On Celeb. last fall I did not pay anywhere near that for house wine either. Seems like it was more around $7 plus tip. Have they really jacked up the prices that much for the base house wine by the glass?

All the more reason to smuggle some on :D

You're right. We were on the Explorer in Nov. and the least expensive wine was about $7 a glass.

AHA! You think that you are making such a smart crack!

Motorcycles ARE permitted on the ship.

Royal Caribbean even has Hogs on the High Seas cruises.

Captain Johnny often takes his Harley on board with him.

So there!

;)

:D

I thought one of the captains had a Harley on board.

I wonder if you were driving on a freeway and got pulled over by a state trooper what he would say to that.

A neighbors son was out drinking and came home zooming down our block on his motorcycle, missed his house, hit a neighbor's fence, flew across the street. He had both his legs broken and many other injuries. This was a year ago and he still is having problems.

I'm sorry to hear that. although I don't know the specifics of that case, It would seem he had a lot more than one an hour and/or was an inexperienced rider.

I am certainly not condoning pounding down nine drinks then getting behind the wheel, in fact I don't drink at all when I drive. I realize many lives have been destroyed due to drunk driving. However, a 160lb male could have ONE DRINK AN HOUR and still not be considered intoxicated.

Really the point I was trying to make is that if on a cruise, had your first drink by the pool around noonish and your last drink in the night club around 1 or 2 am, nine drinks spread out through that time would not be much.

They might make you do a road side test.

one tidbit. In the jurisidction in which I work (Ontario).... the legal limit is 80 milograms of alcohol per 100 mg of blood.

If someone has been drinking and they blow less than that and they are showing poor driving skills, they can and will be charged with impaired driving.

Here in Canada being over the legal limit and driving impaired are TWO SEPERATE CHARGES

I'm sure the laws are similar here in New York. This is why you have to know your own limits. If you don't, you pay the consequences.

No matter witch way you go, RCCL is still making money on the alcohol. I think they are trying to increase there revenue by getting everyone to buy the package knowing that a certain percentage of the people will not drink the required minimum. Miss just one drink ( of the 6 beers required) and it is profit to the ship.Spread that out over 2000 people on a smaller ship or 6000 on Allure/Oasis and the potential to increase Profit is there.

If you feel my figures are wrong please feel free to point it out to me.

Yes you are exactly right. It is a game of averages. Just like the all you eat buffett on land. They know that for everyone who consumes enough to lower the profit margin there will be several who actually pay more than thier share.

This is especially true with couples where both partners get the package for convenience. One may drink substantially less .

I tried to find my answer to my question on your board but didn't see it...so i'll ask. do they offer this package on The Navigator? i am new to all this so bear with me..lol:confused:

No at this current time the trial of the Alcohol Beverage Packages is only on 3 ships, the Independence, the Grandeur and the Legend.

Welcome to CC :D

It makes me feel better that you don't drive after drinking. Its great that you enjoy yourself on the cruises. In my opinion its the best way to vacation. And if you enjoy a few drinks that's fine by me. We do have the option to go into the concierge so drinks don't cost us anything. But all I have is a glass of wine and DH has a beer or coffee.

Have fun on your cruises.

They charge $6 or $7 for a glass of La Terre, which you can buy for $6 a bottle.

Well that is just the normal wine price jacking up done by all establishments either on land or sea. Although I love wine and I do buy it on board and in land based dining places, it is and always will be a major rip off the way it is marked up. It seems that the by the glass price is usually about what a bottle of the same wine sells for in your local wine shop. Of course when they charge $5-7 for one bottle of near-beer like Bud Light it is the same difference considering a six pack retails where I live for about $5-6.

Ah well, the only way around it is to stop drinking and that ain't gonna happen!:D

I am at a loss here. Why is there so much judgement of other people's choices while on vacation?

If people are going to abuse alcohol, they are going to do that whether there is a drink package available to them or not.

For me, it is about the convenience. As the trip planner in our family, I like the concept as it is one less thing for me to have to worry about for the trip. I know the cost of this portion up front and don't have to keep track of the receipts and take time from my vacation to make sure I have been billed properly. It is hard enough for me to take time to pack that last night (can they create a package for that? ;)).

I realize that if I choose to purchase the package there may be days where I don't get the full value of it, while on other days I will. Just like I don't get full value from the food options when I choose to do an all-day excursion and miss lunch.

As this will be a cruise line offering, people can choose to participate in it or not. Please don't insult the choices I make while on vacation as it would be wrong for me to insult yours. Kimberly

We were on the Indy and prices are based on GBP (its in USD but it was explained to me the British location is why the prices were so much higher), drinks are quite more expensive than stateside based ships.

Well I was on Indy in Febuary and got off on 3rd March and there was no package.

Bottled beer (budd miller) was $4:95, house wine $6:95, house spirits $5:50 including mixer, $6:75 for premium spirits (smirnoff & absolut) which was roughly the same as we payed on the Freedom last year.

Interesting because we looked at the wine list in the Labarynth and there was no house wine- it was specific brands that averaged inthe $10/$11 a glass range.

Can't speak to Budweiser(the goal for husband was NOT to drink it ;-) He got his moneys worth with "premium" brands!) but the regular beers ran $5.50-$7.50 I have no clue on cocktail prices beyond the daily specials which were over $6. With this new package you get to drink all of that!

I dont think I can post a direct link but there is a UK cruise forum you probably know about, and they actually have a photo of the bar menu. ;-)

Just looked at the menu- cheapest bud is $5.75, there is miller lite at $4.50, all the good beer is at $5.50-$8, this is before the 15% service fee.

Wines not listed on that menu- but I see a cosmo is $10.50, mine was all included in my drink pack. :-)

Ouch, pina colada at $9.50

Hmm... wheres the mojito??

Bloody Mary $8.25, had more than a few of those... they are only a vacation thing :-D

eta- my bad! There is a $6.50 chard and merlot and white zin,not sure what 15% of that would be....

Uh.... the average FEMALE can too. :D

I'm sorry!:D I stand corrected. However, I do recall reading somewhere that men "burn off" alcohol faster than women for some reason. I'd have to get back to you on that one though.

OK, I just looked it up and was able to edit on time. Women absorb alcohol into their blood more quickly apparently.

Can you confirm whether you payed 15% on top of these prices please, as there seems to be some confusion on this point.

Thanks

We'll be sailing on the Grandeur in July (which is participating in this offer) and am interested to read this thread to try and work out whether it's worth doing it. We have access to the Diamond lounge for pre-dinner drinks and usually buy a wine package. However, my husband likes a few beers during the day and the odd glass of wine in the casino after dinner. He usually orders a bucket of beer on sea days when it can be hard to get a waiter's attention (and it keeps the beers nice and cold). I'm assuming that you wouldn't be able to order a bucket but can only buy one beer at a time - does anyone know?
