These time zones are difficult at times. Yesterday, when I posted (and said 2 days )was the 21st. Today is the 22nd already and we're in Pitcairn. So, Wellington must be the 23rd. Duuuhhh.

 

We cross the International Date Line on Friday, so we'll have Friday 2x this week. Guess I can't rely on the day of the week in the elevators!

Thank you for asking Andrew. I head out there again Monday morning. She was in the hospital again for 2 weeks in February, then last month the retirement community made me take her cat away from her. But then her case worker got all the paperwork in order and she is officially on the placement list, waiting for a bed in a supportive living unit. Mom forgets what she is asking about before she even finishes the sentence. She doesn't take care of herself and it's not the responsibility of the independent living place to remind her of her personal grooming. Thus, her upper teeth all rotted and broke off so I'm going out for her consult appt with an oral surgeon, then the next day, she had an appt with the denturist to make the casting for a full upper plate. Sometime this summer I'll get the call that a bed is available in the "nursing home" I selected and we'll go out and move her. For a 92 yr old, she has no aches and pains (no arthritis) so I guess in spite of losing her mind, she's been blessed.

Alzheimer's is a very tough disease, more so on the family, than the person who actually has it. Getting bed placement in Ontario can take a period of time, unfortunately for anyone who is waiting for it. It is of little solace, but your mom is not fully aware of what is going on.

 

One of our neighbour's husband has a serve case and she said herself, he is happy every time she sees him, even though he doesn't remember her. He is just 70. Truthfully, she is in better spirits after he went into LTC this past fall, as a lot of weight has been lifted off her shoulders. She and her daughter were taking care of him at home for a few years, but it was too much for them. She was a nurse.

 

I can't remeber 100% where in Ontario your mom is, but I want to say Kitchener? It sounds like she is doing as well as possible considering her challenges. I hope you are too.

He officially took over Anthem on April 10 so I would take this date. However I trust he will make a short rotation (maybe until mid or end of May similar to Captain Ban on Quantum last year?) as he has been on board Anthem since February.

LOL, no Mom is in Red Deer, Alberta. And waiting for a bed in Alberta can take up to a year. The placement office has already called me asking if I would consider Stettler, but I said "no" because there's no one in Stettler who could take her to doctor appointments. Her level of care is SL4, not quite LTC yet so I still have to handle some of her needs. Wish she were in Kitchener, then I could just drive to her. But I'm getting perks with Delta because I've flown so far so often! And I handle it all because when I'm not dealing with her, and not working, I jump on a ship to recuperate!

It's a challenge for C&A, too. You may find yourself shorted one nights' credit. I've read that they will restore it, but you'll have to call and enlighten them.:)

Not sure why I thought Ontario, instead of RD.:confused: I am usually very good with my collective memory. We live in SW Ontario, near London, but we have owned 300 acres of farm land with a vacation house 45 minutes SW for Red Deer since 1992. We are due west of Innisfail and due south of Sylvan Lake.

 

My dad actually passed at the Red Deer Hospital. He had cancer and we were on a trip to AB when it took a turn for the worse. He got great palliative care there for 2 months and mom was able to commute from the house there to the hospital daily. If do wish it was easier for you.

 

I too find a cruise a great way to recover for the things that surround me. We are on Allure in May so if there has been a change in captains I will let you know.

 

My thoughts are with you and your family. I hope things go as smooth as possible.

I heard that there could be a problem re the number of nights credited, but maybe they found a way to fix it.

 

Shortly before this sailing I noticed something strange on the Countdown section of "My Cruises" showing the wrong ending date for this one. It showed 18 days, ending on May 7, which would be 18 days if you were to count the days, even though we had Apr 24 twice and the cruise ends on May 6!

 

Of course, despite the announcements, many people thought yesterday was the 25th. Today, the 25th, is ANZAC Day, but I saw many people looking for the ANZAC events yesterday.

 

Re Capt Carl, haven't seen much of him. Seas have been rough, so he's quite busy. I heard from several crew that the Capt is not one of the "out and about" captains.

glad you're enjoying him....we had him in 2012 on Brilliance out of Quebec City during the first year or so that he had been promoted to master and we never heard or saw him. Glad to hear he's settled in and is more outgoing now.
