has CCL fallen that far?

Wow...."slop food"...you must have incredibly high standards. I would be interested to hear where you eat on a regular basis. What has taken you alost to w years to post this comment?

They probably don't eat at Golden Corral that could be the deciding factor as to the the quality of food on Carnival anymore...LOL

 

And in all my cruises, I have never seen a bathrobe in the buffet line.

I've been on 30 cruises with CCL and during the early years the food was bad but back then you did not go on a cruise to eat, However the later years to the present time the food has gotten much better but than I am a fussy eater. My eating habits do not really change when on a cruise.

I have :o.

But......I choose to believe that the bathrobe is probably MUCH better than looking at the swimsuit that it is covering up! :eek: ;)

I don't consider the food on CCL 'slop'

BUT...some passengers certainly think it's OK to run around anywhere in the cabin robes.

I have seen them at the buffet and all over the ship.

Be happy you haven't cruised with some of what golfadj refers to as 'the cult'

 

Equally as horrifying was the group of Red Hats that sailed on NCL and came to the dining room in red and or purple bathrobes.....

It seems like these "food is going downhill" threads recur every so often. It has been a contant theme on this board since I have been here. I honestly have not detected a marked difference in the food quality from my first cruise to my most recent one.

 

I have had a few dishes here and there that I did not care for, but overall I have found the food to be pretty good. In fact, on my recent Fantasy cruise, the best dessert I had all week was a chocolate mousse at the buffet, and usually the buffet desserts are not that good to me. The fish I had at the buffet was also cooked nicely, which was a surprise too.

No I am not a snob however sailed on the Carnival Dream over Xmas 2009. Lots of "slop" food, absolutely NOTHING special about food from main dining room to specialty resturant. Quantity not quality is the theme- I won't even talk about the bathrobes in the buffet lines!

 

So we won't be seeing you again?

I saw a lot of the Red Hat ladies on my one HAL cruise. Had never seen or heard of them before. Grateful that none appeared in public spaces in color coordinated bathrobes.

We had a group of them on a Carnival sailing several years ago. I got a crash course from Cheryl, who had to explain the "deal" with them. It that's what is fun for them, go for it!

I havent been on NCL for a long time because the food was very bad and have always been afraid to repeat that and I have always been happy with CCL's food but it's been almost a year since we were on CCL.

I agree about the NCL food. We had a dickens of a time finding something we liked. I thought the Carnival food was pretty good. It was hit and miss in the dining room, but we thought the buffet was fine. I plan to use Carnival alot more once I retire; they seem to have the better prices and I really want to try their cove balconies

I've sailed three times with Carnival. The fourth will be on the Magic in January 2012. The only "problem" I've had on my three cruises is that there is WAY too many opportunities to eat. The food has always been of high quality, and definitely in line with the price paid. Of course, I find issues like food to be very subjective.

I don't think the food has fallen that far. What I see time and time again on the boards of almost all the major lines here on CC, is regular cruisers complaining about downgrade in food quality. Nevermind that the menus rarely change and it might be possible people are just way too used to the same food over and over and over. I know that when I constantly return to the same dish, I eventually get tired of it.

 

That said, yea, the food quality may have gone down a little. But honestly, I haven't had a problem with the food, not only on CCL, but all the lines. For me, I have always found something enjoyable on the menu.

I sailed on the Epic in April and found the food on Carnival is more seasoned, especially in the buffet.

 

Most meals in the MDR was tasty, but on our last night they served prime rib, and there were quite a few people sending their plates back because the meat was very over cooked.

 

CCL beats NCL's hamberger and hot dog station, but they serve many

varieties of real ice cream (yum).

I just don't understand some people who defend a cruise line as if it's a family member, or as if it's a personal afront to them if someone doesn't like 'their' line..

 

Tell me about it...it's creepy to be honest.

 

I LIKE CCL, but also cruise NCL pretty often and have happily cruised with other lines. I'm not a fan of RCL, but if they sent me a 30% cupon, I'd be booking the next day:).

 

I feel exactly the same way :)

(Problem is I am liking CCL a little less as time goes on. I am hoping one or both of my next two CCL cruises will remedy that)

My last two (on Carnival ships) were GREAT!

 

Of course, one of those was the VH1 chartered sailing, and the other was on the Valor, where the casino "gave" me a chunk of $$ - so... :D

:cool::cool::cool:Just returned from the Destiny and I have to agree that the food quality has gone down since 2009. I had sailed NCL in late 2009 and 2010 and the food quality was much better and there were more FREE choices. Destiny had no premium dining room choices, but even the hamburgers were CHEAP soy type patties. The hot dogs were still good. I love both NCL and CCL and food will not be a deal breaker for me since I am more about having a good time than just eating! Already dreaming about my next cruise and it will probably be CCL since they offer more choices out of Galveston.

Anytime you go somewhere they need to serve a 1000+ people at once you'll find the equivalent of conference/banquet food. It's a HUGE feat to serve so many people at once. Even the fanciest of restaurants only serve maybe a hundred a night and it is staggared over several hours. I know I worked in the hotel industry for many years.

 

Considering this, I was very pleased with my last cruise and the quality of food. I was surprised that they could actually pull of a half dozen entrees at once along with appetizers (I'm not sure we could have done that).

 

If you've gone to a banquet or conference you get usually 2 choices. So, I was impressed with the quality and variety.

 

Once I was in a line of 20 people that prepared dishes and my sole job was to sprinkle parsely on the beef medalion. I can only imagine what it takes on these cruise ships to pull this off.

 

Considering all that, perhaps the food is less quality than it once was, but it's still leaps and bounds above a land based 1000 seater.

Agreed.

And I would guess that the larger they make the ships, the more 'banquet-y' the food is going to get unless they start to create more dining rooms/times with less people to serve at once.

I chuckle when I see people stating the food on ANY major cruise line is indedible, garbage, gross, icky etc.

 

Nobody is staying in business serving indedible food.

In the past year I have been on Norwegian Dawn. and the

Carnival Glory. Found the food quality to be above average

@ both the buffet's and the MDR on both cruise lines.

 

Will be going on RCCL this December, will be curious to check

out the food on the NOS...Then back on the Glory,

February 2012.
