Throwing Things Overboard

Recommended Posts

I think that everyone else has covered the obvious safety hazards that these numnutz could have caused. Out of curiosity's sake I looked up the pole online and they run over $100 bucks a piece on the cheap end. The one that they threw looked nicer than the ones I priced. Parents should be charged the sea littering fee, replacement fee and any other fees that they can come up with.

i agree...that pole could've also been swepted under the ship and hit one of the azipods, etc. and caused some serious damage to the ship. i think that due to all the reasons everyone has listed that RCI make it known publicly that this type of behavior will result in the maximum penalties allowed.

This behavior is extremely disappointing. Inconsiderate, thoughtless and dangerous but let's stop calling them "kids". These are not "kids" - these are older teens at a minimum and likely young adults. Either way - certainly old enough to know better.

This video along with the security footage from the ship and passenger pictures (think Sea Pass card...) should make this a pretty easy mystery to solve.

They very likely boarded the ship with parents who sponsored this adventure. I'm for holding the "kids" and parents responsible for the behavior.

I'll certainly have a chat with my teens for our upcoming cruise.

Love to hear back about the resolution.

I forwarded this onto Royal Caribbean. Being as the ships use facial recognition for all photos, these kids should be able to be tracked down. Their faces were clear in several shots of the video. I'm sure their IT department could track them down with a little work. One of the possibilities would be getting get banned from cruising on RC and there are huge fines for littering at sea as well.

You best think twice before posting STUPID videos.

Thanks for forwarding this. I just saw this thread and I was going to do the same. I hope these brats are caught. This makes my blood boil! Have respect for property and thank God no one was hurt by this prank. I'm so mad!

:D:DLOL!! And for those curious and not in the know: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1209894&highlight=turtle+camera

Just found out about this story! In the past 5 minutes, I've seen the video of the turtle on YouTube, read the article made by Cruise Critic on this story, and read a few posts and saw a few pictures on the thread..I'm all caught up now :D:p;)

My friend was on Indy last year. Kids were throwing plates of the balcony like frisby's. They were warned. Next day the parents went ashore to Gibralter without the kids. They started doing it again. They were escorted downstairs. When the parents returned they wern't allowed back on the ship. Kids and luggage was delivered to them and told this as far as they are going on this ship.

That is the way it should be handled.

I don't agree Puffinater. Why should they have been warned the 1st time?

I would cancel if I were you and return to Cunard. We all know that there are no tacky testosterone filled "STRAIGHT" men that cruise Cunard.

Really?

Don't be daft. You know exactly the type that I'm referring to - the yahoo's who drink too much and start a testosterone festival that ruins it for everyone around them. I was not insulting or insinuating that this element is typical of a Royal Caribbean passenger - or of straight men or any other human being with testosterone. I chose to try RC because I felt it was of a higher caliber of pax than, say, a Carnival "fun ship". This video surprised me and the length of time that they were able to be obviously plotting something and not had a "visit" or a walk by from a security officer just concerned me a bit. but please don't get down on me or insult me because I called a spade a spade. We all have seen what it's like when some yahoo drinks too much and decides to act like an idiot. It can happen on any ship or line of course. I was just hoping that this video of idiot low class teenagers was not indicative of idiot low class parents having testosterone fueled bravado fests down in the bars on the ship.

And I doubt that anyone on this thread who is disgusted by the actions of these teens would be very happy to watch drunken neanderthal's squaring off and showing off loudly in the bars either.

I can only hope that the parents of these juvenile delinquents are members of Cruise Critic and land on this thread. Read how other Cruisers feel about this and want their little darlings to be held accountable for their actions/stupidity. Especially the comments about those forwarding the video to RCI to ID them and go for restitution. That’s gotta give you a sick feeling deep in your gut. I’d like to be a fly on the wall when the parents confront the morons.

The fact that it is documented at all could get Royal fined. There is evidence that something was thrown from one of their ships on a specific date into the sea. Even if they cannot find the offenders, RCL could still be held responsible for the offense.

Where was the security people? Yep RCI should be fined for not showing due vigilance.. Teens congregating along a rail at night Is OK... BUT why werent they noticed and monitored??? They were up to something and if security was around they should have been obviously up to something.. so where was security???? I bet if they would have tried to move them along though, they would risk offending the customer and all that can of worms. No win situation for security folks but I would rather they stand up to the gang for MY safety and keep the teens moving along to a structured enviornment. If kids are allowed to hang out then RCI has an obligation to monitor them..;)

This is utterly ridiculous. This is not security's fault. This is the kids' fault. Let's not shift blame here. And no, it is not security's "obligation" to monitor the kids. The only people "obligated" to monitor the kids are the parents.

I really have to agree. This is so sad to me. I would be so very disappointed if one of my kid's were involved in something like this. I asked my 18 year old if he ever witnessed or heard about kids throwing things overboard. He's been on about 6 cruises and he said no. I am hoping that this is a really isolated incident and not typical teen behaviour.

First of all: I think what they did is wrong and stupid.

Then my point: I just gotta smile when I read comments from some parents here who writes in this thread about how good THEIR kids/teens are. Of course YOUR teens are perfect and would never do anything stupid. YOUR prince or princess would never follow group pressure.... Am I right? :D

who's to say security had not patrolled the area?? security had no reason IMO to approach the group b/c at the time they weren't doing anything wrong just talking and laughing. at one point, the young lady filming warned the other that someone was approaching their area.

i think you're definitely missing the point. these young adults did something that was potentially dangerous to other passengers, crew and the ship! they were fully aware that their actions were wrong! otherwise, they wouldn't have waited until late in the evening on the last night of your cruise to do something foolish.

Do you honestly think that RCI or any cruise line can have a security person at every spot on the ship? Also, it's not the cruise lines job to monitor the kids. It's the parents.

There was another couple kicked off aswell. They were having too much fun in the Solarium. They got a warning and they emptied it and had it cleaned, But they had another go. This time they were told to leave at next port. The Solarium was cleaned twice within a few days. Should have put pics of that on you tube....
