Drink Package was best cruise deal ever!

No - not even close. And to make sure, I added up the bar tab from our 10-day Alaska cruise on Princess last summer. Even if I add in the 2 bottles of wine we brought and the coffee card I purchased, it was barely $300 - for 2 of us ... with 4 days at sea! Pitiful, I know.:roll eyes: But I do have a fondness for flavored coffee drinks, and since we both like an occasional soda and the plain bottled water is sufficient, and the upcoming cruise will be highly port-intensive, I think we may spring for the classic non-alcoholic package, and pay per-drink for the 2 or 3 drinks a day that we do have.:)

I would keep what I have and pay for the drinks. You probably won't have a large enough bar and non-alcoholic drink bill to change your cabin in order to get the 123Go promo.

We've already sailed in August, and we found the itinerary to be so intensive that most of the time we were too tired to stay up late and drink anyway, and purchased even less beverages than usual. We wound up upgrading to an Aqua class cabin for the same price with a senior discount, which was well worth the free bottled water we got!:)

Don't forget to add the cost of several detox treatments at the spa during the trip (liver protection) AND the cost for Betty Ford after arrival!!!

I always do !!! But then again, I have used the Premium Drink option on my last 3 cruises....................everyday, in everyway, I am getting better and better-- Serenity now.....

Let me start by saying we are not big drinkers per say, however on a cruise, we do like to enjoy ourselves, after all it is a carribbean vacation! We were on the Connie last January and purchased the Premium Drink package prior to boarding. Initially we were concerned that with so many port days we might not get our money's worth.

Not only did we get our money's worth and more, there were other perks that we didn't anticipate. Aside from no slips to sign etc, often around the pool when a frozen drink started melting often the staff would ask if they could just make a new one. We tried many different types of drinks esp Martinis that we might not have bought otherwise. If we tried a new drink and didn't like it it was replaced with another drink of our choice without question.

In order to show you why we felt this was a great deal I will describe a typical day. Disclaimer... based on this, some may think that we are heavy drinkers...if that is the case , while we appreciate your perspective and opinion please do not comment on our consumption ( this is our first post and we have seen some petty unnecessary replies). The purpose of this information is not to expose our consumption for review and/or public scrutiny, but to demonstrate to those who like to let their hair down a little and are wondering from a ecocnmic standpoint is it worth purchasing a package.

0830-Latte with one and half shots of Bailys..........$10.00

1100-large water...............................................$ 3.50

1230- Frozen drink..............................................$6.50

1430- Beer........................................................$5.00

1600- Frozen drink..............................................$6.50

1800- Glass of wine while dressing for dinner............$10.00

1930- Martini and dancing prior to dinner.................$12.00

2030- Dinner ( 4 different types of wine by the glass as suggested with each course by sommommlier-not all entirely consumed)..$ 40.00

2215- Specialty Coffee..........................................$ 8.00

2300- Dancing/Bar/Show/Casino Cocktail.............................$10.00

2400- Nightcap.(wearever..maybe brought back to balcony) $10.00

Total...$121.50 ( Drink prices are approx by memory-please don't bust me for not remembering exact price..probably cause I drank too much..Ha ha)

Cost per day...$55.00

Remenber this is for one person double the savings when we each bought one!

Only difference on port days was that we had two beers when back on ship as compared to 3 poolside drinks. Many nights we actually stayed out dancing etc later and maybe had another one...or if really hot day at the pool and having fun with poolside neighbors maybe snuck in an extra beer!

If you think this might come even close to a typical carribbean vacation day for you, then you can see what a true value it is. The other convieniences were no slips to sign, bar servers, waiters and sommoliers knowing your preferences and offering drink suggestions and special cocktails that we had never tried before. We told our assit waiter the first night about the specialty coffee and we had it served with our dessert every night...no hassles. It really added to the vacation atmosphere that we enjoy!

Hope this helps!

I don't see why anyone would think that that was enough consumption to scrutinize (or why they'd think they had a right to scrutinize in the first place- it is after all vacation and there are those of us who only truly let our hair down while on them) but I will agree with you.

On our last cruise on the Connie, my consumption looked like that, with about 2 more coffee drinks, at least 2-3 more bottles of water, and towards the middle/end of the cruise, a bunch of hot toddy's and the like thrown into the mix- I was losing my voice. I'm not a frozen drink girl, so my frozen's were mixed/martinis, but the idea is still the same.

As for wine, I had at least 2 glasses of wine with dinner if in Blu, and a glass that was paired with each course if in specialty. The sommelier asked if I'd like a fresh glass with something different or if I wanted to finish what was there, etc, each time. So sometimes, I wouldn't have even finished the glass before a new glass with a different wine was next to me.

We paid $12 a day (not exact, I forget what the upgrade cost really is) to upgrade to premium from the free classic with 1-2-3. So basically, after one martini each day, I broke even. Add in all the coffee, bottle water, and all the other drinks and at least for me, it was a no brainer.

And I just realized how old this thread is. Man, this was a popular topic I guess :)

You can upgrade once you're onboard or you can do it over the phone with your Celebrity Cruise Consultant. We've done it both ways in the past.

$11.50 per cruise day. I suggest you wait a couple of days to see if the classic package works for you. If not, then upgrade for the remainder of the cruise. You can do this until about 4 days from the end of the cruise.

Here's another vote for the upgrade to premium.

After our last cruise, not being big drinkers, we were actually tired of everything. However after a few weeks we sat down and analyzed. We realized that the package had again more than paid for itself. We especially enjoyed the 20-year port and the top shelf liquor in whatever we wanted. Paying the difference made it reasonable to try whatever we wanted.

Where can you get canned sodas. Can you ask for them closed so you an bring them back to your cabin? We are on the Millennium.

Thank you!

Cans of soda can be obtained on the beverage packages at any bar, lounge or dining area on board the ship including the coffee bar. And, yes, you can get them unopened.

We are a family of 4 so buying 4 packages is out of the question. I know your not suppose to "share" but do they keep track? How do they know??

Sharing a drink package is a form of theft similar to shoplifting. If you go to an expensive clothing store and find the really nice jackets are too expensive to buy four of would you buy one and shoplift the other three? If you wouldn't then why would you consider stealing from the cruise line?

Just as a clothing store might have various means of detecting shoplifting, I imagine the cruise line has various means to detect theft of beverages through sharing of packages. I don't know all of their techniques just as I'm unfamiliar with the techniques used by a retailer to prevent theft of their inventory.

I took my first celebrity Cruise back in October 2014 and found this thread very helpful. I just wanted to provide my feedback, my husband and I had the classic package through the 123 go promotion, and I had called ahead of time to celebrity and added on the upgrade to premium. It was a fantastic decision! It was just so nice to be able to just order whatever we liked and didn't have to worry about a thing. We got large bottles of Evian to sit by the pool with, and took them back to our room also, and we enjoyed the Pellegrino at every meal, along with wine of course! I really loved the cocktails at the cocktail bar!

Plus it was really great to get drinks by the pool with premium liquor my husband and I did feel that made a big difference to us which totally made the premium package worthwhile.

While we really got our moneys worth with the actual drinks it was the freedom it gave us that we really loved.

I have booked the same cruise again for this coming October and again have the free classic package but this time will upgrade on board straightaway using onboard credit as I have a decent amount to use. We really can't wait to cruise again with the premium package.

Could not agree more. We had the 1-2-3 Go Promo on our Summit cruise back in October of 2013 and we enjoyed our happy hours each evening sitting at the Martini Bar. We had the same promotion again last March when we were on the Silhouette and this time we enjoyed the Molecular Bar, which we felt was a nice upgrade. For our third time round next November, we'll be on the Equinox for 10 days with the pick your perk promotion. Besides the extra 3 days, we'll be back at the Molecular Bar for happy hour each evening and we'll also enjoy our libations of choice at the Gastropub and poolside at Slush And since I decided to upgrade us to Concierge class, we'll also have our first hump cabin. ;)

Yes, they keep track of each drink. I know because I get a report at the end of the cruise. Celebrity scans your card each time you get a drink.

As long as you book an OV or higher it should be very easy to get a free drink package part of a 123 Promo. If you missed it this time perhaps next time.

If you are all in the same room, then the 3rd and 4th passenger will get a free classic non alcoholic package so in fact you would only need to buy 2 drinks packages.

I just came off the Celebrity Silhouette. When the bartender scanned your key card, your photo showed up on the computer screen, so they do verify that the person that ordered the drinks actually has the alcohol package.

Does the classic package include martinis and Cosmopolitans? I can't find a price list for cocktails anywhere.

YES but in small glasses only. And only with the included vodka or gin. Also appletinis and lemon drops are included.

Some people report difficulty getting the bartenders to make them in the Martini Bar and Molecular Bar - we have never had that problem and , frankly, would object strenuously if we did!

Thank You JKGourmet. We are just wondering if we need to upgrade to the Premium Package or not. We are not that big of drinkers, but we do like Cosmos and Martinis. I find it odd that nowhere does Celebrity post a current cocktail price list, at least not that I can find.
