Rottweiler Puppy Posted February 27, 2012 #51 Share Posted February 27, 2012 I live in a really rural area. The nearest restaurant with good food is a long way away. One of the things I'm looking forward to on my upcoming cruise is being able to eat some good food any especially try new things. What is your favourite thing on a CC menu that I should try? I am kind of the opposite and live in an area with very good places to eat. I didnt really like any of the food Carnival had on the menu but if I had to pick, I would say the Flat Iron. And that isn't saying much IMHO. Order it Medium Rare and salt it up you will be ok. Oh, scrape that nasty gravy off it first. I have no idea why they put gravy on a steak. I found the food to be cafeteria grade at best. Steakhouse was very overrated as well IMHO PS none of that really bothers me though, I don't cruise for the food. At least not when on a Carnival cruise. I got what I expected for the money I paid for the cruise. It nourished me and kept me alive for the cruise but couldn't wait to get some good food after the cruise. I admit I have been spoiled due to where I live. LOL, that is what my husband had to do during our last cruise. He was very confused why they did that to a steak that was perfectly cooked otherwise (medium rare). He never ordered it again after the first night. And we are not even from any major culinary city - I live in Minnesota (though we do have several notable chefs and at least one James Beard award winner). Rottweiler Puppy Posted February 27, 2012 #58 Share Posted February 27, 2012 Just wondering what you eat when you go out? The food is not even close to Cafeteria grade Its cafeteria grade around here or maybe I should have said catering grade. I am not talking about Jr High school cafeterias or Jerry Springer style wedding catering. The local hospitals food reminds me of Carnivals food. Its not bad, just not as good as I expected. I think a better description would be banquet grade. Like where a large office or corp would hold a semi formal dinner and the catered food is presented in a fancy fashion. I found a place like TGIF to have better food then on Carnival. Like I said, its ok, just not all that great and all of course, just my opinion. Where do I eat? If I dont feel like cooking its usually regular chain joints like TGIF, Applebees, Longhorn and stuff like that. Nothing fancy but all of which are much better then what we had on the Liberty. If we do fancy its Brio, Seasons 52, Capital Grille, Timpanos. We find the Hard Rock Casino places to eat good as well. Of course the best food is at home. Edited to add, as the good Dr. mentioned. Definintely NOT places that offer meatloaf and fried chicken. Those are for my lazy don't feel like putting in the effort days at home. (not that I dont eat meatloaf, I am just super picky about it and only eat if at home and I never liked fried chicken)

Rottweiler Puppy Posted February 27, 2012 #60 Share Posted February 27, 2012 What is this?..looks good Put in more then one piece of bacon and its a winner. I could eat that. Heck I will order it on my next cruise and give it a shot. I don't know how one can mess up that and the bacon gives it bonus points. Looking forward to it. Rottweiler Puppy Posted February 27, 2012 #61 Share Posted February 27, 2012 so your telling me the food at fridays and applebees are better than on a cruise. You must not be picking good choices or prefer fast food No, its just that I found Carnivals food to be not very good as much as it wasnt very bad either. I dont really care for those places (TGIF, etc) but they are places where all my family can settle on when we don't want to cook and I find the quality to be better. I do find the quality of those places to vary greatly however. Some in areas are downright bad quality. I am just lucky most of the ones around me are halfway decent. Thats all. As far as fast food? Nope. I don't eat that crap if I can help it. I dont like any of it except maybe a Apple Pecan Salad from Wendys. Its ok, I just didn't like the food on Carnival all that much. Its not enough to stop me from cruising them again (already booked for June) I dont know why you are in disbelief or for some reason need to belittle my opinion with your snarky comment about fast food or poor choices. Its not like I ate at your house and didn't like the cooking. Dont take it personally. It doesn't matter if I liked it or not, its if YOU like it or not. The thread is about our favorite menu choices. I posted mine and why I chose it and offered my opinions as to why I chose it. Lets not hijack the OP's thread any further please. This is a good thread already has me looking forward to something I missed last time. Hopefully it will be a highlight on my next cruise.

Aplmac Posted February 27, 2012 #63 Share Posted February 27, 2012 The Vegetarian Indian food is available everyday on the "Everyday Menu". My son had it every night and loved it!! Thank you for the heads-up on that! :).
Aplmac Posted February 27, 2012 #64 Share Posted February 27, 2012 Does that Indian Veggie dish actually come with 2 plates of food? I recognize the rice and the cucumber/onion/tomato, but what is all the other stuff? It looks interesting and I'm determined to try a lot of new food when I go in July. What you see in my photo is what was put in front of me! You then 'mix and match' as you see fit, and I usually eat most of it! If you're familiar with Indian cuisine, you can make sense of it -if not, it's a little daunting, but you'll like what they bring! .

jetravel Posted February 27, 2012 #67 Share Posted February 27, 2012 DH answer is everything. He loved the soups! I loved the Oyster Rockerfeller (sp?) and the bacon mac and cheese. Yummo. Oh, and them stuffed mushrooms too!
CP3o Posted February 27, 2012 #68 Share Posted February 27, 2012 Regarding indian food, I'm sure what they serve isn't as spicy as I like it, do they have spicy sauces as a side to make it hotter? RCCL only offered tobasco sauce if you wanted to kick it up.
Avon_Princess Posted February 27, 2012 #69 Share Posted February 27, 2012 We enjoy most of the food on Carnival; some of our favorites - tilapia, bacon mac n' cheese, chateau-briand, warm chocolate melting cake, bitter & blanc, cappucino pie, Southern Fried chicken, lobster, shrimp, the soups, pumpkin pot pie....the ice cream in the buffet area is also good! Purplehaze21 Posted February 27, 2012 #72 Share Posted February 27, 2012 I have seen the dish Herb Polenta with wild mushroom ragout many cruises now. Finally had to try it. I LOVED it! I am hoping its on my next cruise but since its a 5 night cruise, I don't have my hopes up. Besides that, sweet and sour shrimp is excellent. I also love the bacon Mac and Cheese. I am not a dessert person so I usually have coffee and pineapple sherbet.
CruiserJul Posted February 27, 2012 #73 Share Posted February 27, 2012 I love their warm soups and the seafood - especially tilapia and corvina. Looking forward to trying the Chateaubriand! I also look forward to the Mexican buffet!
