Eurodam Condition?

Strathmore

Recommended Posts

I have read some pretty negative reviews about the Eurodam recently, complaining about its condition. The ship is only like 3-4 years old! I know sometimes these reviews attract some people who just like to complain about everything. Anyone been aboard her recently that can comment, honestly?

Much appreciated.

I sailed Eurodam during her inaugural season and twice in the last year. I found her to be in great shape and saw no decline at all compared to when she was new. I suppose if I looked really hard I could find something, but then if you have to look hard then it is not worth mentioning IMO. I love that ship and will sail her again.

We sailed over Christmas ('11) and I had no complaints about the condition of the ship. (Our only problem was increased vibration but I am sure that has been fixed by now.) The only reason we chose Westy for this Christmas is that we wanted to visit St. Maartin rather than St. Thomas.

foodgirl & flat circle thanks for the update. I'm sailing with Canadarocks and we are both curious. I've found review often to be highly critical of the smaller things. However, having sailed (and broken down) on the 'beautiful & elegant Statendam!!!!'. I'm prepared for just about anything.

We sailed the Eurodam in Dec 2010, and 2011. We are booked for Dec 2012. We found no issues.

We were on her in late June early July of this year and found no issues, other than one day one of the elevators was not working. I was not, however, out searching for a frayed carpet, loose thread or the like. We can't wait to return and sail with her again.

There do seem to be some negative reviews

But it looks to me like there are many more positive reviews. All you can do is read the reviews and try to determine if what people are complaining about would be important to you. Are these things that would ruin your cruise? Are they subjective things? If someone doesn't care for the food or entertainment that doesn't mean you won't like it.

It's good to be informed and set realistic expectations but keep an open mind and decide for yourself.

I hope you have a wonderful cruise!

I especially liked the review by kate'sjournies where she complained about all the announcements and THEN complained that you couldn't hear the announcements unless you kept the cabin door open. It takes all kinds.

We did a transatlantic on the Eurodam this past March and everything went great. It was our first sailing on the Eurodam and she quickly became our favorite ship. We will cruise again in October on the Eurodam. In my opinion you should have no worries. Enjoy your cruise!

Just came off Eurodam August 17, 2012, with previous sailings in April 2009, August 2009 and December 2010. She's in excellent shape, with only one issue to note. We experienced a very loud banging noise from below our room. We were in 1086. Front desk indicated it was coming from expansion and contraction of water pipes when the boiler fired up. HAL handled the situation very professionally and compensated us for being woken up and inconvenienced by the noise. Otherwise, nothing to be worried in booking the Eurodam - I would just avoid booking in the vicinity of 1086 until the issue has been resolved.

The Eurodam is lovely. I can't imagine her decline since our last cruise.

Our last suite SA7178 has a 2x2 square of torn/missing/ripped carpet.

That was the ONLY thing we saw on the entire ship. She is overall very lovely, new and kept spotless. Fresh paint, every day. People cleaning, everywhere!

She is an amazing ship. I really think that you will love her.

We cruised 4 years ago on Eurodam,we really think some thing wrong with vibration and motion on this ship. it was rock and rolling even in calm seas:o we talked to crew members and they admit that even they feel it .

We sailed on the Eurodam in May. It was our first cruise on her. I had no concerns about her condition, in terms of wear and tear. We did notice some increased vibration at times in certain areas of the ship. However, it was not bothersome and did not affect our enjoyment of the cruise in any way. I would have no qualms about booking another cruise on the Eurodam.

Trophy,

How did you find Saguenay? Especially getting from La Baie to Chicoutimi in the fall when their shuttle does not run?

We didn't do a whole lot in Saguenay. We basically went on a long walk from the ship. It is a very port intensive trip, so we used it as a relaxing day, spent a couple hours in port then hung out on the ship. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Might be more help for other ports if there is anything else you have questions about.

  • 3 weeks later...

I think "some people like to complain" is the most likely answer. While I was TA on the Crystal Symphony my TA was TA on the Eurodam escorting a group of 40 or so people.

My conversation with here seemed to indicate satisfaction and a number of people with her booked another cruise, I think also on the Eurodam. Sounds pretty good to me.

She also reported on a get together with ship management, TA's and high level mariners. She reported there were some pretty outlandish complaints like:

Guest: I haven't been able to take a shower the whole cruise.

HAL: Why not?

Guest: I don't like the soap in the dispenser.

HAL: Did you ask your steward for a bar of soap?

Guest: I shouldn't have to ask.

If you're expecting the Eurodam Crew to read your mind, you may be disappointed. Could people like these be the ones writing the bad reviews?

We were on the Eurodam in May and it was in great shape. I have to be honest i do not concern myself with a 2" rust spot or a little worn carpet as it has absolutely no effect on my vacation. I am not saying the Eurdoam had these problems I just don't waste my time noticing them. We'll be back on her in 8 days and I do not expect any problems.
