LouLou921 Posted September 15, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2012 I just don't know how interested I am in them.
2thesea Posted September 15, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2012 We have skipped shows on our past several cruises. We enjoy the less hectic activities like enjoying the evening view from our balcony :D
mkmom514 Posted September 15, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2012 If I cruised a lot and went on the same ships more than once, I would probably skip some. But, I like shows so on our recent cruise on the Oasis we saw most of them. They were great! If I were to go on Oasis again, I would probably skip most of them. Freeway1 Posted September 15, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2012 It seems like there is a lot of the same thing on most cruise lines, the toilet noise thing on every ship. We like to spend time around the ship taking in the small venue entertainment and people watching.
Erik101 Posted September 15, 2012 #5 Share Posted September 15, 2012 On the Allure, we reserved 4 shows and we ended up only seeing one. On future cruises, we decided not to book any shows. If we end up seeing one, great! But the shows are no longer on our scheduling agenda!
OCruisers Posted September 15, 2012 #6 Share Posted September 15, 2012 Some enjoy the shows more than others. We very seldom go to any of them. On RCCL cruises there are other options we enjoy more. :) ~~~~~
cb at sea Posted September 15, 2012 #7 Share Posted September 15, 2012 We aren't fans of "production" shows, but we do usually like the comedians and the bands...so it really depends what the entertainment IS!
Rare Familygoboston Posted September 15, 2012 #8 Share Posted September 15, 2012 We skipped a bunch them on some ships because 1- we repeated a ship and the production shows were exactly the same and 2- I find the welcome show is one big sales pitch for things to buy or do that are already listed in the Compass. 3-I don't really enjoy most of the headliners or have seen them on another ship already ( Pampas gauchos and Earl Turner) , 4- we do MTD and sometimes the show times don't work for us. But on Oasis we didn't miss a show, they were all pretty unique and since everyone goes to shows on different days, there is no welcome or farewell show, the CD does not have to do the sales pitches on these ships and you can plan dining around the showtimes more easily. We booked Allire so we could see different shows, even though we will do the same itinerary.
Sassy Shessie Posted September 15, 2012 #9 Share Posted September 15, 2012 We often go and sit where we can leave without disrupting others and we do leave about 30% of the time. We probably completely skip about 30% of the shows. We don't like very loud music, rock, rhythm and blues, etc. which probably relates to our ages. Magic, comedy, the rare classical performance have sometimes been quite good. If it is a ship with a good pianist in a lounge, or a string quartet we sometimes do that instead. We enjoy reading in our cabin or the library as well.

gerif Posted September 15, 2012 #11 Share Posted September 15, 2012 I would if I could. DH enjoys shows so I go to a few with him grudgingly. If it were just me, I wouldn't go to any.
dchillis Posted September 15, 2012 #12 Share Posted September 15, 2012 My last 6 or 7 cruises had been on Carnival and probably the last 5 I skipped the shows, kind of been there done that. But now that I'm back with RccL after 6 years away I plan on seeing a show or two or maybe more.
LouLou921 Posted September 15, 2012 Author #13 Share Posted September 15, 2012 I'm open to the possibility. I think, maybe the Up In The Air show.
Sh1035 Posted September 15, 2012 #14 Share Posted September 15, 2012 Nope only if I take grandma and have to do it. Far prefer the blackjack table but sometimes you got to sit and take one for the team. But do sneek a peak at times.
spg112357 Posted September 15, 2012 #15 Share Posted September 15, 2012 I have been on over 27 cruises. At first it was a BIG thing to go to a show then the novelty started to wear off. Plus I got a lot larger and did not fit in the seats too well. I choose to go to the casino or a bar instead of the shows. Well on my last cruise Oasis of the Seas (Sep 1, 2012) I decided since we had to reserve the shows to go see a few of them. Well the seating has changed. They are wide seats. The shows have changed. They are a lot more professional. Hairspray was great. The Frozen in time show was wonderful. Talk about in your face ice skating!!! For the Oasis of Dreams Aquatic show I was able to see it from my balcony and from the end deck in a lounger while drinking a frozen drink. Shipboard shows have changed. I tell you on the Oasis class ships GO SEE THE SHOWS!!!!!!!!
Langley Cruisers Posted September 15, 2012 #16 Share Posted September 15, 2012 We always go to the ice show but the other ones do not hold any interest for us. Also, we choose the balcony back row - seats are comfy and we can slip out early, or at least first, when we want to. :D .
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted September 15, 2012 #17 Share Posted September 15, 2012 I'm a member if the 'take 'em or leave 'em' brigade. Really all depends on the show. If it's a Tribute Band I'm more likely to go as opposed to an American Headliner I've not heard of. I did once go to a UK comic on Indy - big mistake. HUGE. Ashland Posted September 15, 2012 #18 Share Posted September 15, 2012 We also skip the shows...but we'll be at all the trivia games and karaoke when our adult kids cruise with us....Because they know all the answers and can sing, and we don't and can't :D
kathyemma Posted September 15, 2012 #19 Share Posted September 15, 2012 ME! I love to cruise and I love to see shows - but I don't really love the two of them together. I go to the Kennedy Center (or other theathers) at least 4 times a year and I really enjoy every moment of it - but when I am on a cruise I don't really want to go see a show. I am there for the islands, the pool, the sun, the wonderful evening air and spending time with the family - I am not there for a "broadway" show. cherylxx Posted September 15, 2012 #20 Share Posted September 15, 2012 We go to maybe 1 show per 14 day cruise ....... Doesn't really interest us.. There are other things we would rather be doing

sleepless Posted September 15, 2012 #22 Share Posted September 15, 2012 We go to the shows. I really enjoy them, part of the magic of cruising. We always have early seating in the main dining room, go to a show, and take a walk outside to gaze at the ocean and stars. We head inside visit a bar, listen to some music while enjoying a drink. A couple times during the week, we visit the casino. We will then stop for a snack somewhere before heading back to our room and our balcony. After 38 years of marriage, it's kinda like date night every night for a week. It sustains me until the next cruise, as we don't do much in the evenings at home. Our lives are just to busy. We both work full time. In addition, DH is back in school, studying to be a licensed Minister, and I am busing creating - painting, jewelry making as I do craft shows in my "spare time". DH - well, he could (would) probably skip the shows, but the rest of the evening would remain the same. As he likes a happy wife, he goes to the shows with me in the evening. In turn, he gets to sleep later in the morning while I get up early, search out coffee, and commune with the ocean in a quiet place.
dmwnc1959 Posted September 15, 2012 #23 Share Posted September 15, 2012 Out of 45 cruises I have seen less than a half dozen shows in either the main show room or other lounges. Just wasn't my cup of tea. However last year on Celebrity Millennium I did see a production show that revolved around music from the 70's and it was so good I saw it twice during the B2B. My next cruise on Allure of the Seas I've gone way outside of my 'norm' and have reserved several shows because they have come so highly rated. matj2000 Posted September 15, 2012 #24 Share Posted September 15, 2012 We used to go to them but they all seem to be similar. "A tribute to Broadway" type of theme, though MSC had Italian Opera type which was really nice.. I don't like rushing dinner or waiting in line. Many times they start late because they play bingo before hand, trying to sell games as long as possible. That drags out forever. If the timing is right we go in. Most are pretty good. whyrlygig Posted September 15, 2012 #25 Share Posted September 15, 2012 In all our cruises, we had never seen a show of any kind until last year on Navigator. We went to several that week and really enjoyed most of them. We will likely check them out more closely from now on.
